Chapter 187: Are You Here to Get Revenge on Me?
Su Peng sat lifelessly in front of his computer, staring at the two toothbrush cups on the desk, not knowing what to say.
One cup had ginger cola, the other had brown sugar ginger tea...
One was An Han’s toothbrush cup, and the other was his.
“I don’t like the taste of ginger,” he said, looking up at An Han, who was standing a few steps away, wearing a mask and staring at him seriously.
“Drink it. I didn’t put much,” she said.
“But you said it was shredded ginger… why is it in chunks?”
An Han paused for a moment, then answered confidently, “I don’t have a knife! I could only use scissors to cut it into pieces! Now hurry up and drink!”
Su Peng looked miserable. He hesitated but finally picked up the ginger cola and took a small sip.
The sweet syrupy flavor mixed with the fizzy smell of cola and that strong spicy ginger taste immediately rushed to his head.
Just one sip made him feel nauseous and ready to gag. It didn’t exactly taste bad, but it was weird, especially with that unbearable ginger flavor.
“Does it taste good?” An Han leaned forward curiously from a short distance away.
“It’s... okay, I guess... You didn’t try it?”
“I’m not sick, why would I drink it?”
“......”
She pressed her lips together and noticed the pained expression he was trying to hide. “Then try the other one.”
Su Peng looked fearfully at the cup of brown sugar ginger tea. Under An Han’s expectant and rather intimidating gaze, he reluctantly took a sip.
Moments later, An Han watched as he covered his mouth and leaned over the trash can, gagging nonstop.
“Is it really that bad...?” she muttered, straightening up. “I’m going downstairs to buy breakfast. Finish these before I come back.”
“Go ahead, go ahead.”
“I’ll also buy some real cups. Drinking from toothbrush cups feels weird.”
As soon as her voice faded and her footsteps disappeared outside, Su Peng suddenly lost all trace of his “weak patient” act. He immediately grabbed both cups and ran to the bathroom.
This is too much.
Returning to his desk with the empty cups, he sighed weakly.
Getting sick was already bad enough, did he really need to be tortured by An Han on top of that?
He knew she meant well, but honestly, it would’ve been enough if she just stayed and talked with him or helped pick up takeout. There was no need for all this...
………………………………
“The stupid system forced me to take care of Su Peng.”
“But Su Peng doesn’t look very happy about it.”
An Han grumbled to herself as she walked through the narrow alleys of the urban village, searching for the marinated meat stall she’d seen before.
Sick people should eat light meat dishes to get more protein and recover faster, but the nearest wet market was too far away, and she wasn’t good at cooking. Takeout food was always too oily and salty, so marinated meat seemed like the simplest and lightest option.
Mostly, it was just convenient.
After walking around the village for a while, she couldn’t find the stall anywhere. Maybe it hadn’t opened yet, or maybe it had already closed.
So she decided to buy duck noodles instead. She didn’t like duck, the smell bothered her, but it wasn’t for her anyway.
When she walked into the duck noodle restaurant, her eyes immediately fell on a familiar young man sitting near the door.
“What are you doing here?” she asked.
Chen Junjie turned his head, glanced at her, and rolled his eyes. “My girlfriend lives here. Why can’t I be here?”
“Your girlfriend also lives off-campus?”
“She checks in for attendance at night, then sneaks out to stay here.”
An Han looked up at the menu on the wall, then sat down and called loudly to the boss, “Boss, one duck noodle to go, and one egg noodle to eat here!”
This shop mainly sold duck dishes and noodle porridge. Since An Han didn’t like duck, she had to settle for the plain noodle instead.
It was just breakfast anyway, so it didn’t really matter.
“You took the pot from the dorm? I just told Brother Long last night we’d have hotpot in a few days!”
“I’m using it to cook something,” An Han replied casually.
“Then why are you here buying food?” Chen Junjie suddenly realized something. “That takeout, who’s it for?”
“Su Peng,” she answered honestly. “He’s sick, so I’m bringing him breakfast.”
“Su Peng? He’s living off-campus too?”
Chen Junjie’s expression changed slightly.
An Han moved out, and now Su Peng did too? Could they actually be living together already?
Their interactions always seemed a bit strange. Not like normal friends, more like a bickering couple...
Lowering his voice, he leaned forward and asked quietly, “So, who’s the top and who’s the bottom?”
An Han stared at him, completely confused.
“From the look of you, you must be the bottom, right?”
“???”
It took her a moment to realize what he meant. This guy wasn’t just gossiping, he was teasing her on purpose!
So, she lifted her leg under the table and kicked him hard in the shin.
Caught off guard, Chen Junjie jumped up and shouted, “I cleaned up just to see my girlfriend, and you left a dirty shoe print on my pants, damn it!”
“That’s what you get for running your mouth.”
Just then, the owner brought out the bowl of egg noodles An Han ordered. She didn’t bother arguing anymore and lowered her head to eat.
Chen Junjie also quieted down, glaring at her with an annoyed face. But after a while, An Han looked up and asked seriously, “How do you take care of a sick person?”
“How would I know?” he shot back impatiently. “Wait, are you personally taking care of Su Peng? You two living together now?”
“Of course not!” An Han quickly denied it, not wanting him to misunderstand. Her tone became more serious. “We just live nearby, so I check on him sometimes and help out a little.”
If it weren’t for that stupid system, she wouldn’t be doing any of this!
“Right...” Chen Junjie gave her a doubtful look, but then glanced at the time on his phone, stood up, and hurried toward the door. “I’m going to see my girlfriend.”
Watching him rush away, An Han couldn’t help thinking he looked just like a lovesick puppy.
“Does he really like her that much…” she murmured, staring blankly at his back.
Not thinking about it further, she quickly finished her breakfast, grabbed the takeout duck noodles, paid the bill, and hurried out of the restaurant.
She had planned to buy something else too, but Su Peng was probably getting impatient already. Besides, it was almost eleven, no one would even call that “breakfast” anymore.
Running back and pushing open Su Peng’s door, she panted slightly and placed the breakfast on the table.
“Su Peng! Don’t stay in bed, time to eat!”
“Coming,” his hoarse voice replied.
“Your voice doesn’t sound so rough anymore!” An Han looked at him with surprise. “So my rock sugar pear soup worked?”
Su Peng got up from bed, lifting his blanket. “I think it was the medicine from the hospital that worked…”
“I’ll make another pear soup for you!”
Before he could say anything, An Han had already flitted out of the room like a butterfly.
“......”
Su Peng sat silently at his computer for a long while. After making sure she couldn’t hear, he rubbed his temples and muttered under his breath, “Could you at least peel the pear first? Rock sugar pear soup isn’t even made that way…”
“And I don’t like duck meat.”
Through the wall, he could hear her voice calling again, “Eat faster! We’ll have lunch at twelve!”
“......”
Looking down at the big bowl of noodles in front of him, his smile turned helpless and bitter.
He couldn’t help but think, maybe An Han was using his illness as a chance to get back at him for everything in the past.
