[Vol. 8] Chapter 250: Respect and Blessings
Egil was shocked, a deep fear rising in his heart.
As the true controller of those flesh puppets, he knew exactly what had just happened. From beginning to end, none of the servants had been actually attacked, but the moment the girl spoke, he suddenly lost all control over his summoned creatures without any warning.
These puppets weren’t destroyed by any outside force. In fact, it felt more like the control over them had been forcefully taken away and then they simply broke down on their own. Something this strange and unbelievable... all because of just one simple word: “Release.”
“Heal.”
Before Egil could think more about it, the girl gently opened her lips again, and another light, floating word came out. It seemed to create invisible ripples in the air.
Then, on the battlefield around them, all the priests who were still on the church’s side suddenly began healing at a speed visible to the eye!
In just a short moment, even Melanie, who had been slammed into a wall by a sword, was now crawling out from the rubble with the sound of stones falling.
She looked at the small figure standing alone in front of the monstrous flesh creature, radiating both a holy and strangely charming aura. Then she looked down at her own body, completely healed without a single wound.
The shock and amazement on her face were just as strong as Egil’s. Clearly, she didn’t know such a powerful ally was on their side either.
“Who are you...?”
The situation seemed to completely change just because this mysterious girl spoke twice. But Egil seemed to finally understand something.
“Power of words...? Are you the Demon Lord of [Corruption]'s followers? No, wait, are you a succubus?”
As a high-ranking priest, he had dealt with many demons before. The succubi under [Corruption] did have powers to influence others through speech. But even the strongest succubi couldn’t directly change reality just by talking.
It was said that only [Corruption] itself, [Eloun], had such mysterious authority. But how could a hero chosen by the goddess possibly be a demon, especially one that looks so strange?
He shook his star-shaped head and pushed aside those unimportant details. Instead, he focused on what really mattered.
Although this power of words truly was amazing, like a kind of divine power, everything in this world follows cause and effect. Nothing can happen for no reason, not even a god can break this rule.
So...
“I see now. That’s why you didn’t talk before, not because you didn’t want to, but because you couldn’t. In your current state, every word you say becomes real, right? And the more complex the meaning, the more power it takes from you, doesn’t it?”
“This power is strong, yes. But divine power is like a double-edged sword. With your current strength, you probably can only affect the world in very basic ways. You can’t directly destroy someone like me. So how many more words like that can you even say?”
“......”
The pink-haired girl still didn’t answer. But after showing her power twice, her face did look a little pale. Egil could tell, his guess was probably right. That made him feel a lot more at ease.
Just like the Supreme Lord said, these chosen heroes may be troublesome, but they are still far from fully grown.
While all this happened, Melanie had already recovered and returned to the battlefield with the help of backup. She quickly stepped in front of the pink-haired girl, shielding her with her body. Her staff pointed directly at the terrifying blood-and-flesh monster.
Even though she had been badly hurt by Egil earlier, she hadn’t fully lost consciousness. She heard all of Egil’s monologue, so she now understood who this little girl really was.
No matter how strange or mysterious it was...
No matter what kind of power she had...
This child was an ally. And that was all that mattered.
“Hero, please be careful! He has fully activated the power granted by the evil god. He may have reached a level that only legendary mythical beings can achieve. He’s a very dangerous enemy. Let’s team up to fight him!”
The pink-haired girl blinked a few times, as if she understood, then nodded and opened her mouth for the third time.
“Grant.”
Buzz!
A mysterious and powerful force suddenly appeared, but this time it only affected Melanie. She was a little surprised, and then felt a huge rush of holy power pour out from inside her body, like a fountain.
Not only did her recovery speed increase several times, but the purity and strength of her power also shot up. Her beautiful eyes sparkled with excitement, and her confidence surged.
I can do this! We can win!
“Come on, traitor! The battle has just begun!!!”
………………………………………
Meanwhile…
“Um… Lady Violet, are you really not going to help them?”
Inside the elegant top-floor living room of the manor, Miss Vera, the lady of the house, personally poured fresh hot tea into a porcelain cup. Then she turned around, slightly worried, and looked out through the large glass window at the huge tree of flesh still fighting golden chains in the distance.
Even though she didn’t know exactly what was happening there, she could guess most of it.
After all, Vera knew more about the situation in Saint Laos City than anyone else.
Hearing her question, the black-haired girl sitting on the sofa just shook her head. Calmly, she dropped sugar cubes into her tea one by one, causing small ripples.
“Why should I step in? The great Hero who can save the world is already there. I’m just an ordinary bystander, I don’t like taking someone else’s job~”
“But…”
Vera looked like she wanted to say something but hesitated. The priestess didn’t seem to care. After finishing with the sugar, she gently stirred her tea with a spoon. Her silver-blue eyes didn’t even look at Vera as she spoke with a calm smile.
“Don’t worry too much. Even though the future shown by Revelation is never wrong, time flows like a great river. Just a few pieces of scattered visions can’t show everything.”
“She might have seen the disaster, but not the full picture. Or maybe she didn’t see when or how it will be solved, or where it will lead. The future is always changing and full of unknowns. That’s the real future. No one can be truly all-knowing. Not even Menna, and not even the gods.”
“That girl probably told you the same thing before, didn’t she? That prophecy is only a reference, and the future has many possibilities. Am I right?”
“Y-You… How do you…”
As if she didn’t even need to look to know what surprised and confused look was on Vera’s face, the black-haired girl smiled again, like she already knew the question coming.
“You want to ask how I know so much about the Seer’s power, and what my connection is with that little girl, right? You’re from the Human United Kingdom, and yet you’ve never heard that ‘Violet’ has deep ties with the current queen?”
“And since Menna is the princess of the kingdom, and the little sister of Queen Lilya, it’s not strange that I’ve had contact with her.”
“In fact, I know more about her powers than you do.”
“......”
