[Vol. 8] Chapter 257: I’ll Stay With You
“In fact, [Forbidden Words] are very rare. As you already know, they can't be recorded, copied, or interpreted in any way. Even in Seth’s tens of thousands of years of life, the times she’s seen such writing can be counted on one hand.”
“So when you said earlier, Violet, that you saw [Forbidden Words] in the ruins and were able to translate and understand them using your power, even read them out loud, I was truly shocked. To be honest, the power you got from the other world is so strong it’s hard to believe. It doesn’t even make sense.”
After hesitating for a moment, Sethlin decided to speak honestly.
“Or to put it more bluntly, your very existence breaks all common sense. Whether it’s that divinity of [Radiance] I’ve never heard of, or the way your body can contain two different sets of laws without any conflict… even traveling into this world from a game out of thin air, compared to all that, being able to understand [Forbidden Words] isn’t even the most unbelievable part.”
“But even so, Violet, I still want to remind you, interpreting [Forbidden Words] is extremely dangerous. Do you remember how the God of the Azure Sea and Truth went mad? Truth and Taboo, maybe they were never truly different in the first place. So you must be very, very careful. Never push yourself too far.”
The priestess silently nodded. Seeing the genuine worry and care in those beautiful green eyes, she lightly brushed the goddess’s avatar, which felt just as real as a physical body, and gently rested her head against her soft chest for a moment before pulling away.
Maybe that was the only way she could hide her moment of hesitation and confusion, showing only her determination to one of the people most important to her, to give her peace of mind.
“Sethlin, you know I won’t back down.”
The green-haired girl nodded too, smiling gently.
“Of course I do. I’ve always known. That’s why, no matter what happens on this difficult path, I will walk with you to the very end.”
Her serene green eyes seemed to dissolve all worry and pain, becoming a source of life and hope. Even Violet couldn’t help but feel a ripple of warmth in her heart.
“Hehe, I knew our Sethlin is the best~”
After that brief emotional moment, Violet gave a light smile. Then, almost without thinking, she suddenly asked,
“By the way, Sethlin, as a goddess… do you think the Primordial Light really exists? Or more specifically, is the world we live in now really created bit by bit from nothing by that original light, just like the stories say?”
“Hmm...”
This time, it was the goddess who fell into a brief silence. After a while, she slowly shook her head.
“That’s something I’ve always wondered too. Maybe it’s true, maybe not. The birth of the original place came even before the gods. Tens of thousands of years is a very long time. But I vaguely remember that from the moment the Goddess of Earth first gained consciousness from the laws of nature, the world was already following its own rules and moving forward. And even though the gods transcend cause and effect, we are still just beings born from this world.”
“At the very least, in all these tens of thousands of years, I’ve never personally seen the so-called Primordial Light appear or descend. I don’t think the other gods have either. It’s too vague and intangible. But the many traces it left behind, the rules and laws said to be created by it, are definitely real.”
“I see…”
Seeing the black-haired girl frown slightly in thought, Sethlin simply smiled and patted her shoulder.
"Violet, don’t overthink it. I know a lot has happened recently that’s been bothering you, but does it really matter? The way I see it, the most important thing in this world isn’t who you are, it’s what you want to do and what you’ve done. Compared to the past, which is already over, shouldn’t we focus more on the present and the future?"
"Hey hey, what’s with the pep talk? I’m not a kid, you know…"
Violet rolled her eyes and brushed away the pale, delicate hand resting on her shoulder. She tried to hide the flash of understanding that briefly showed on her face and pouted.
"I was just asking randomly, okay? You’re the one who jumped to conclusions! You really love rambling about boring life lessons, huh? It’s so annoying!"
"Alright, alright, I’ll stop talking~"
The goddess didn't get mad. Even though she had just been scolded a few times, her gentle smile, the kind that seemed like it could forgive anything, only grew warmer. Feeling like she was being totally outmatched, Violet quickly changed the topic back.
"Then, Sethlin… do you think the Goddess of Desire has found what She was looking for?"
"Hmm… there’s no solid proof yet, but knowing Dysaer as I do, I’m afraid the answer is yes."
"Oh, that really is bad news~"
If that’s true, it probably won’t be long before they clash with that organization again. And this time, there won’t be any mercy or holding back.
Right at that moment, a sharp sword strike, fast as the wind and stretching across over a thousand meters, suddenly swept across the sky. It cut the huge, fleshy tree in half, a tree that had been growing stronger by the second, fed by the leaking energy from the sky crack, and was just about to break free from the golden chains!
BOOM!!!
That attack had been building for a while, and when it exploded, it was as loud as thunder, unleashing a terrifying shockwave that swept across the entire city. Even in the high-rise building living room where Violet and Sethlin were standing, a good half a district away, the large glass windows shattered into pieces under the violent impact!
"Whoa… that move was actually pretty impressive. I didn’t expect that guy to break through again so soon. Sword cultivators really are something else, each more insane than the last. Maybe what happened before really hit him hard?"
Focusing her mind again, the black-haired girl looked with interest at the lingering sword energy in the distance. With just a small step forward and a ripple in the air, all the shattered glass fragments around them suddenly froze in mid-air as if time had stopped.
If an ordinary person saw this, they’d probably drop to their knees in fear, calling it a miracle.
Now that the Sword Saint had made his move, it was clear that the little ones couldn’t handle the situation on their own. It was most likely on the battlefield Eudora was in charge of, that gentle priestess was probably getting beaten up badly. After all, the harmless little girl by her side was only there for support. If the situation was too one-sided, there wasn’t much they could do to turn it around.
Still, for rookie heroes, doing this well in their first real fight was already pretty impressive. It was probably time to wrap things up.
Thinking all sorts of random thoughts to herself, the priestess snapped her fingers again. All the shattered fragments that had been floating around suddenly flew back into place as if time reversed itself, and in the blink of an eye, the window looked like it had never been broken at all.
Now that was a real miracle.
