Chapter 334: Then Let’s Get Married!
A proposal that came late, but not too late.
Lin Yibai wasn’t really the kind of woman who cared a lot about “special moments” or big gestures.
Things like Valentine’s Day, Women’s Day, and all the other days created just to make people spend money on women. She never asked for anything on those days.
If someone remembered and did something sweet, it was nice.
But if not, she didn’t mind either.
So back to the main point. Should she say yes?
Lin Yibai touched her still flat belly, then said, “Alright, alright, get up already. I’ll say yes. I mean, I can’t exactly run away while carrying your baby, can I?”
Xia Changyu’s face changed. He quickly stood up and gently supported her waist, frowning in protest.
“Please don’t. Let’s not do that ‘run away with the baby’ storyline like in those romance novels. Let’s just live a good, peaceful life together, okay?”
But the very next moment, he got down on one knee again.
Lin Yibai was a little overwhelmed. Didn’t she already say yes? Why was he kneeling again?
She really wasn’t into the whole “guy kneeling to show how deeply he loves you” kind of thing.
Xia Changyu then took out a small, fancy box from his jacket pocket. When he opened it, there was a shiny ring with a diamond in it.
He mumbled to himself, saying this was his one and only chance in life. If he didn’t make it romantic now, when else could he?
Lin Yibai realized this man cared way more about “special moments” than she had thought.
He took a deep breath and said, “My dear Miss Lin Baiyi, may I have the honor of placing this ring, a symbol of my love and commitment, on your finger?”
Lin Yibai couldn’t help but smile. Her beautiful eyes curved like crescent moons. She gently placed her hand on her chest, after a few seconds, gave a small nod.
“Well, since you’re so sincere about it… I guess I’ll just have to say yes.”
With that, she extended her left hand.
Xia Changyu was overjoyed. He took her delicate hand and was about to put the ring on her ring finger.
But suddenly, Lin Yibai shook her hand and said with a laugh, “You silly guy! Who puts a proposal ring on the ring finger? That’s for the wedding! Put it on the middle finger, hurry up!”
He was clearly excited… yet so adorably clueless.
It was a hot summer afternoon.
The sunlight came pouring through the floor-to-ceiling windows that wrapped around them like a soft embrace.
There he knelt, gently holding her hand, as she raised her fingers, her eyes sparkling softly at the delicate shimmer of the ring.
The city outside was noisy and full of life.
But here, in this quiet moment, time seemed to pause, as if the universe itself held its breath for them.
Because from this moment on, wherever life’s journey took her, she knew she had found her forever home.
Right here, with him.
…………………………………………
The wedding was just two weeks later.
They really couldn’t delay it any longer. Lin Yibai’s baby bump was starting to show.
Even though she still had a great figure, her belly had started to grow.
The hotel had already been booked.
Since they couldn’t invite too many guests, they made the wedding more upscale instead.
Each table cost over 10,000, maybe even close to 20,000.
Lin Yibai felt a little bad about spending so much, but this was all arranged by Xia Changyu’s family, so she just let them handle it.
They hired a familiar face for the wedding planner, “Brother Jin.”
It was from the same wedding planning company where Lin Yibai used to work part-time. That company had always treated her well, so she and Xia Changyu were happy to support their business.
Even though the venue was small, the quality of the event was very high!
The wedding company must have made a pretty good profit from it.
On the wedding day, the weather was perfect.
Lin Yibai walked lightly and gracefully back to her hometown. Her red wedding dress had golden embroidery, and the bright red on her lips made her beauty unforgettable.
Neighbors from upstairs and downstairs came to see, and everyone said the same thing.
That girl was truly stunning.
And the man who married her… must be incredibly lucky.
Lin Yibai’s home was in an old neighborhood where parking spaces were very limited. After six in the evening, it was almost impossible to find a spot to park.
Her parents were carrying cigarettes and wedding candies. They went from house to house, greeting neighbors one by one.
Early in the morning, somehow they managed to clear a wide path through the crowded neighborhood, so the wedding cars could park.
There were no pranks, and no alcohol bottles lined up from the first floor to the seventh floor. And it seemed… there were no bridesmaids?
Only a few girls from relatives had hidden Lin Yibai’s shoes.
That was all.
Someone kept teasing her secretly.
Xia Changyu glanced at her with a hint of mischief and whispered, “Uh… should we hide the shoes again? Just once more?”
Lin Yibai got up from the bed, barefoot, and said with a hum, “Hide what? Hurry up and get my shoes back. If we miss the auspicious hour, you’ll be the one to blame.”
Xia Changyu said, “But I prepared lots of red envelopes and haven’t given them out yet!”
Lin Yibai said, “That’s even better then.”
Xia Changyu spread his hands and said, “Also, my brothers and I planned all night who will drink, who will deal with trouble, and who will break in.”
Lin Yibai looked annoyed and said, “Are you guys having a wedding or a robbery?”
Xia Changyu shrugged, “My brothers have helped with weddings before. They say this is just how things are done.”
Lin Yibai snorted, “Rules? Rules are meant to be broken! Hurry up! This bed is soft, I’ve been standing too long, I might fall.”
Xia Changyu looked worried, “Huh?”
Lin Yibai said, “If I fall, it’s okay, but if my baby falls, I don’t know what will happen!”
Xia Changyu shouted, “Quick, guys! Get her shoes! Forget those silly rules… don’t think about those other weddings where you were groomsmen.”
To be honest, if conditions allowed, Xia Changyu would’ve summoned a traditional red bridal carriage to carry her down the stairs. Every step she took felt sacred now.
Before leaving, Lin Yibai hugged her parents who were already crying and comforted them.
“It’s okay, it’s okay!” She said gently, patting their backs. “It’s not like I’m never coming home again! We still have the homecoming banquet in a few days.”
Then they got into the wedding car.
And just like that, she was no longer just a daughter, but someone’s wife.
……………………………………
The distance between cities no longer seemed so far.
The road shimmered with sunlight and promise. There was a little sadness, but it was wrapped in joy, like a love letter written on soft paper and sealed with a kiss.
The wedding banquet started right at 7 p.m.
Brother Jin, the wedding planner, was the host of the event.
【…At this moment, Mr. Xia Changyu, do you have anything you want to say to Miss Lin Baiyi?】
Xia Changyu’s voice trembled ever so slightly as he took the mic, eyes locked on the woman he loved more than anything in the world.
“I’ve dreamed of this moment so many times. But now that I’m actually standing here... all I can think about is the day I first met her.”
He smiled, then paused, his voice cracked gently with emotion.
“I keep thinking, what if I had missed her that day? What if we never crossed paths? What if I had taken a different street that day? What if I never said hello? I don’t even want to imagine that world. If that happened, maybe right now I wouldn’t be standing here, but a lucky bastard stole my place!”
A wave of laughter rippled through the crowd, warm and affectionate.
Look at him, head over heels. And still, he’s the one who got to marry her.
The host faced them and took a deep breath, then said,
【I really like what Mr. Xia said, if he never crossed paths with her, what would he do? Some things in life, especially love... maybe all it takes is one glance, and you’re bound for eternity. So, to both of you…】
【Do you promise to be each other’s everything?】
【To stand by one another, through every joy and challenge?】
【To walk hand in hand through all the days to come?】
【To marry, and bind your lives as one, from this day until forever?】
Xia Changyu answered without hesitation. “I do.”
Lin Yibai met his gaze, her own voice steady and resolute. “I do.”
And with that, the ceremony was complete.
The room erupted in gentle applause, but to them, it all faded into silence. In that sacred, suspended second, there were only the two of them, heart to heart, soul to soul.
Two people who had once been strangers, now standing side by side, choosing each other for all the days to come.
From this moment on, they would no longer walk alone.
They would share every sunrise and shoulder every storm.
Together, they would build a home. Not built from walls, but from the whispered joy of laughter, the delicate threads of memory, and the steady heartbeat of love that never fades.
And together, they stepped forward, into forever.
………………………………………
The End.
