Chapter 221: Home
An Han used to share a bed with her little sister. Only then did she learn that even a small and pretty girl could snore. And the sound was quite loud…
After that, she never slept with her sister again. At that time, she had never suffered in the dorm before, and her sister’s snoring kept her awake all night.
But this time, she actually slept well. Her sister’s snoring was nothing compared to Long Xing’s earth-shaking snores.
Yawning as she opened her eyes, An Han stared at the slightly worn ceiling. Then she turned her head and looked at her sister, who was hugging her like an octopus and treating her like a doll.
Who knows why this little girl accepted the “new her” so quickly.
Her sister was already around ten years old, so she should understand the difference between boys and girls, right?
An Han tried to move a little, and her sister immediately opened her eyes.
“Sister~ what time is it?”
“It’s time to get up.”
She reached over to grab her phone on the nightstand and checked the time. 8 a.m.
Su Peng had sent her several messages last night. After glancing at them, An Han didn’t feel like typing a reply. She stretched, then pushed away the octopus clinging to her.
“Move.”
“No~”
“Get off!”
After pushing her sister away, she finally got out of bed and started a new day.
Her mother was already busy preparing breakfast downstairs. After brushing her teeth, An Han walked down and leaned over the stairs anxiously.
“Mom, what are we eating today?”
“For breakfast we’re having sandwiches, for lunch there’s your favorite seafood, and for dinner we’ll eat out, okay?”
Her mother turned around with a gentle smile and asked, “What do you plan to do during the winter break?”
“I’ll stay home and play on the computer!”
“It’s still better to go outside sometimes.”
An Han answered confidently, “I’m a girl now. It’s not safe to go out alone.”
Her mother paused for a moment but didn’t argue. Instead, she changed the topic. “You didn’t get a boyfriend in the past half month at school, right?”
“No.”
“Really? Your sister said she saw you chatting on your phone all night.”
So the sister really became her mother’s “spy.”
An Han wasn’t surprised at all and quickly defended herself. “I was just talking with gaming friends.”
She walked downstairs, put on the house slippers, and leaned over the sink counter to look at the piles of red plastic bags from the market.
“What seafood did you buy?”
She opened one of the bags curiously, inside was a big green crab. The other bags had squid, blood clams, palm-size shrimp, lychee meat, fried tofu…
The last two were things she couldn’t eat at school. She had seen blood clams in the market, but she couldn’t cook them.
Basically, all of them were things she loved.
“So much?”
“You just got home, so you should eat something good.”
An Han muttered softly, “In a few days you won’t say that anymore.”
Her mother was a very “realistic” person. Every time An Han came home for a break, she could eat all her favorite foods, sleep until noon without anyone bothering her, and stay up all night eating snacks.
But after a few days, one week at most, her mother would completely “cool down.” Even if she slept a little late, her mother would nag endlessly.
“Sandwiches with beef patty and egg,” her mother said, handing over the freshly made sandwich wrapped in plastic wrap.
“Little sister! Breakfast!” she shouted toward the upstairs.
Holding the sandwich, An Han quickly ran to the living room in the back.
She sank comfortably into the sofa, curling up her legs. One hand was playing with her phone, and the other hand was holding a sandwich. She looked completely relaxed.
Life at home was really nice~
She didn’t have to worry about the price when she wanted to eat something. She could do whatever she wanted, play on the computer anytime, and if she got hungry, her mom could cook something for her.
And once she walked out of the alley, it was the shopping street. She could get late-night snacks anytime before midnight.
If only her sister wasn’t so annoying…
After taking forever upstairs to wash up, her sister finally came downstairs. She looked half-asleep, rubbing the corners of her eyes, her hair messy.
Before the girl could say anything, their mother stuffed a sandwich into her mouth.
“Go play with your sister in the back.”
“Okay~”
Her sister instantly became energetic and jumped onto the sofa. Her big eyes stared curiously at her sister who was curled up.
An Han’s eyelid twitched. The next second, she heard her sister ask,
“Brother, why did you turn into a sister?”
“……”
Can she not ask such embarrassing questions?
She stayed silent for a moment, quickly finished her breakfast, then stood up, put on her shoes, and escaped upstairs.
“Mom! I’m going upstairs to play on the computer.”
“Wait!”
“What is it?”
“Clean yourself up and change your clothes. We’re going to the police station later.”
Was it time to fix her ID problem?
Feeling excited, An Han turned her head to look at her mother. Sure enough, her mother smiled and said,
“We’ll take a photo and fill out a form. You can get the new ID card in a week.”
“That easy?”
“All the paperwork was already handled.”
An Han nodded thoughtfully.
She didn’t really know what paperwork was needed… but the new identity was a reward from the system. With how amazing the system was, something like a new identity must be easy.
Just then, a woman in her fifties walked in carrying a bag.
An Han froze, but the woman quickly noticed her.
“Xiao Wu, who is this girl? She bought two oyster cakes from me last night.” Auntie Wang smiled, her eyes full of wrinkles.
Her mother turned back to glance at An Han, her eyes asking for confirmation. She didn’t know if An Han was ready.
“Is she Xiao Han’s girlfriend?” Auntie Wang suddenly said as if she understood everything. “Maybe she has visited once or twice before. Last night she even asked if I recognized her.”
“Really?” her mother continued to look at An Han for an answer.
Feeling troubled, An Han scratched her hair.
Although her family got along well with their neighbors, the neighbors’ mouths were never gentle.
Whenever something a little gossip-worthy happened, everyone in the area would know within two days. Rumors would spread quickly, and the scariest thing was that the story could completely change along the way.
But she knew she would be exposed sooner or later, so she forced a smile and said:
“Mom, you decide.”
Auntie Wang was startled by the way she addressed her mother.
“You’re already married? But Xiao Han is only in her early twenties, right?”
Not wanting to face Auntie Wang’s shocked look later, An Han dashed upstairs, taking two steps at a time.
“Sister! Wait for me!” Her sister followed with the sandwich in her hand. “I want to play games!”
Rushing into her own room, An Han tried to listen to the voices downstairs, but the soundproofing was too good, she couldn’t hear anything.
She stretched, turned on her computer, and planned to call Su Peng to play duo and relax.
But her sister burst into the room.
“Sister, I want to use the computer!”
“Go play on your tablet!”
“Then I’ll tell Mom you’re dating someone!”
An Han froze, truly unable to figure out what had given her away. She looked at her sister in disbelief.
“When did I ever date anyone?”
“When you were a freshman.”
“Oh… say whatever you want.”
