Chapter 224: What a Messy Circle
When she saw her little sister again, the lively, slightly boyish girl had already turned into a quiet, shy, and cute girl who kept her head down with a red face. A girl around ten years old looks good in any dress.
“Mom! Why can she wear a long dress?”
But An Han was still very unhappy.
“What short skirt should a little girl wear?” Her mother glanced at An Han’s black skirt. She didn’t really like the color, but when she looked down at her cute younger daughter again, she instantly felt satisfied. “Let’s go, we’re going to your grandpa’s house.”
Heaven knows how worried she used to be about her younger daughter dressing like a boy. She didn’t expect the problem would be solved so easily.
An Han’s home wasn’t far from her grandpa’s house. It took only thirty minutes on foot. Just like before, An Han sat on the back seat of the electric scooter, her sister stood in the front, and her mother was in the middle, controlling the scooter…
Even though carrying so many people on one scooter is against the rules in a big city, nobody in a small town cares. And it only took about ten minutes to get to her grandpa’s house.
But An Han was still very worried. While on the scooter, she nervously asked her mother.
“How did you explain my situation to aunties and uncles?”
Her mother paused and answered, “I just said you became a girl, that’s all.”
To her mother, An Han suddenly turned into a girl while studying at school. But her mother didn’t seem to plan to dig too deeply into the reasons, and was even willing to lie for her.
“Huh?” An Han panicked a little. “Then won’t they think I’m a… a shemale?”
“So how exactly did you become a girl?” Now her mother finally asked.
An Han stayed silent for a moment. Even Su Peng wouldn’t believe the system, so her mother definitely wouldn’t…
“Because… I suddenly found out I was developing like a girl.” She lowered her head and played with her fingers. “Then I went for a check-up, and they found out my chromosomes were actually female.”
“Is that so?” Her mother’s tone didn’t sound convinced.
An Han paused, trying hard to think of a reason that could persuade her.
“I also have periods…” she said softly with her head down. “I’m a real girl.”
“……”
Mother didn’t say anything, which made An Han even more anxious.
These days, she had been worrying about how to explain everything. But although her mother never asked before, she seemed to think An Han must have had surgery and used to be a boy with a girl’s heart.
Maybe her mother wasn’t thinking that on purpose, but who knew…
“I…”
An Han realized she didn’t know how to explain at all.
Her mother stopped the scooter. There was a traffic light up ahead. She turned to look at the worried An Han, and smiled gently. “Don’t worry. I believe you.”
“……”
“Everyone has their own secrets, right?”
An Han lifted her head and looked at her mother’s smiling face, then nodded blankly.
“I’ll tell them you were always a girl,” her mother said as she twisted the handle again and the scooter moved forward slowly. “Maybe it was the hospital, or the doctor, or maybe even me who made a mistake… Anyway, you were originally a girl. These past twenty years were just a dream.”
“If anyone dares to talk bad about you, just tell me. Don’t be afraid.”
“No matter what the reason is, none of this is your fault, right?”
An Han lowered her head, gently hugged her mother’s waist, and rested her forehead on her back. Even though her mother was a bit too controlling, she really was the best~
Standing in the front, her sister asked in total confusion, “Mom, what are you two talking about?”
“We were talking about your sister.”
Her mother answered with a smile.
Not long after, the family arrived at her grandpa’s house.
Several electric scooters and small cars were already parked in front of the gate. Through the open door, An Han saw a few aunts and uncles sitting on the sofa, and next to them stood her cousins, who looked very nervous.
Her mood suddenly became tense again. She straightened her back and lifted her chin, trying to look more like a boy to calm her own fear.
But before she even entered the house, the people inside were already arguing loudly.
“What are they arguing about?” An Han turned to look at her mother, who was locking the scooter.
“Your eldest uncle’s son wants to date and marry your eldest aunt’s adopted daughter.”
“???”
An Han was completely stunned.
“They’re mainly here today to talk about that. You’re just here to join the fun,” her mother said cheerfully after locking the scooter.
An Han asked with confusion, “But… isn’t it not allowed to marry within three generations?”
“Your cousin is adopted by your aunt, so it doesn’t count. And they even passed the marriage exam.”
“Huh? That’s…”
“They don’t have the time or energy to care about your situation.”
Her mouth twitched. She suddenly realized she came here just to watch the drama.
What a messy family circle…
She followed her mother into her grandpa’s house. The sound of their footsteps caught everyone’s attention. They all turned their heads toward An Han, stared for a moment, then started talking.
“She’s pretty.”
“She looks just like her mom when she was young.”
“Is that really Xiao Han?”
“I absolutely disagree! If those two get together, how will I show my face to others?” Her aunt suddenly brought the topic back to the fight.
Her eldest uncle shook his head calmly. “Why should we older people interfere with young people’s feelings? I think it’s great. Family becoming even closer.”
An Han was shocked by their tense argument, and then watched her own mother join the battle too. She could only stand awkwardly on the side, unsure what to do.
But her attention was drawn to her cousins.
Her older cousin, Wu Hao, had always gotten along with her very well. She never expected he’d be the type to “eat the grass near his own nest.”
Her older female cousin normally studied abroad, so they rarely met. An Han couldn’t even remember her name. She had only returned because it was the New Year, and who knew she would cause such big trouble right after coming home.
“C-cousin?” Wu Hao carefully approached An Han. “What… what happened to you?”
“I want to ask the same thing about you…”
“……”
The two looked at each other, both so embarrassed their toes could dig into the ground. With a red face, An Han turned her head away, pushing down her curiosity about Wu Hao.
Let’s not hurt each other…
She looked at her female cousin and saw that although her face looked cold and she was standing against the wall with her arms crossed, her long fingers kept nervously pulling at her sleeves. She was clearly very uneasy inside.
“Cousin~ Are you going to marry cousin?”
But her little sister suddenly ran over with a handful of peanuts and asked the most painful question in the most innocent voice.
“Can cousins marry each other?”
“……”
Wu Hao had thick skin, so he could still force out a smile. But the female cousin blushed bright red and lowered her head, looking like she wanted to bury her face in her chest and never raise it again.
“An Han, come here.”
Just as she was enjoying the drama, she heard her grandpa calling from the dining room.
She immediately snapped out of her “watching the show” mode. She glanced at her mother, saw her give an encouraging look, and then walked toward the dining room.
It’s fine… With things this chaotic, Grandpa probably won’t care too much about my problem.
