[Vol. 8] Chapter 278: Anyway, Don’t Rush
At first, the two sides were fighting normally, soldiers against soldiers, generals against generals. Violet had no plans to interfere in this battle between mortals. It was also a good chance for the young Hero down there to gain more experience. Even if this surprise attack ended up causing heavy losses to the Holy Empire army from the Purple Mist City, that would just be a natural result of war.
But who could have guessed that some people couldn’t play fair? Without warning, they suddenly jumped in and flipped the table. Miss Priestess could only reluctantly join the game. Did they really think that just because she hadn’t acted, she was nothing more than a useless lucky charm?
The core area where the two forces clashed was still covered in smoke and dust, and the ground there had sunk nearly a hundred meters deep. It was impossible to see clearly what was happening. But that one strike just now had already decided the winner, so Violet didn’t plan to attack again.
That big lump of flesh, the one called the Lord of Decay, was indeed strong. Even with only a small part of its body forced into this world, it could still overpower the Saint of Judgment with her holy sword, the Swift Wind Sword Saint, and the “Hero of Wisdom” all at once. Its strength was beyond that of normal gods. Its true body might even be close to, or at, the level of a Main God.
But it was too impatient.
If the Lord of Decay could fully bring its body into this world, Violet wouldn’t fear fighting it, but she would at least need to think carefully about the damage a full-power battle might cause. She’d act with caution. But with only this small part of its power, to the Priestess, it was nothing more than an easy target.
Not only that, based on her long experience dealing with the so-called [World Sustainers], even though this part of the Lord of Decay’s body might be just the tip of the iceberg, losing it would still hurt badly.
Unlike gods, the [World Sustainers] don’t have a Divinity. Their authority and power seem to mainly exist within their physical bodies. If they lose too much of that body, they become weaker. If their body is sealed, they can’t cause trouble anymore. That was the case with the Glutton back then, and it seemed to be the same for the Lord of Decay now.
The Light Incarnation’s full-power strike was enough to truly harm a World Keeper. Today, the Lord of Decay had acted recklessly. Even if it just wanted to confirm her existence through this fight, there were easier and safer ways to do it, rather than ending up in a situation where it lost both soldiers and resources.
She didn’t know exactly how the true body on the other side was reacting right now, but judging from how furious it had been earlier, it was probably even more desperate now.
I know you’re in a hurry, but don’t rush~
“You… you’re actually a god?”
Her private thoughts were cut short. Following the surprised, curious voice, Violet once again looked at the white dragon girl named Cielru White.
When the Lord of Decay had suddenly tried to interfere with the battle earlier, the Priestess hadn’t struck right away. Partly it was to see how strong it really was, but also to test the attitude of this White Dragon King.
After all, you can know someone’s face but not their heart. The dragons had given Violet a good impression so far, and the White Dragon King seemed to have come here with good intentions. But if they were going to work together, Violet couldn’t just take her words at face value.
The White Dragon King was strong, stronger than Frederica and the Sword Saint, but still far from the level of a true god. From the aura Cielru gave off, it was already hard for her to keep this divine projection in the world. If she tried to use powerful abilities in this form, especially truly strong ones, it would cost her a great deal.
So Violet purposely watched her begin chanting, and only broke it off right before the clearly powerful spell became impossible to stop. In fact, if Violet hadn’t acted just now, the one to face that part of the big flesh monster’s body would probably have been the White Dragon King’s dragon-language magic.
Mythical beings are usually proud and arrogant, never seeing themselves as equal to lower creatures. Even Xiao Guang had always been like that. But this Miss Cielru seemed to be a bit different.
Thinking of this, the Priestess spread her hands and said, “I’m just a little stronger than normal creatures, that’s all. I think I told you before, my main job is being a priestess. A god? That’s way out of my reach~”
“You call that… a little?”
The white dragon girl glanced at the spot where the holy spear had struck. At its center was a terrifying deep crater, the ground sunken far below, and the space where the wormhole and the huge bloody arm had been was now completely gone after the dust settled. The corner of her eye twitched, but her expression slowly calmed.
“Never mind. If gods really are starting to return to the world, and you’re the kind of good god who values protection and order, then this is great news for our dragon race. Can you tell me what exactly happened to you gods back then?”
“Oh?”
The Priestess raised her eyebrows slightly and smiled in mild surprise.
“From the way you talk, White Dragon King, you don’t seem to have much awe for gods. Are all dragons this confident?”
Cielru shook her head.
“It’s not that dragons are overly confident, it’s simply the reasonable way to think. Even a thousand years ago, when the gods still walked the world, our race never bowed to any god. True gods are powerful, but that doesn’t mean they’re unbeatable. With the countless ancient powers we’ve inherited, dragons can also reach, or even surpass, that level. It just costs us more to do so.”
“Calling dragons one of the ‘mythical races’ is just a bias of mortals. Most mythical races gained their strength from the blessings of gods, but we dragons were born alongside the gods, maybe even earlier than them.”
“So, there is no real higher or lower rank between us.”
“That’s quite an interesting view~”
The black-haired girl smiled and nodded slightly, then glanced at the White Dragon King’s body, which was becoming more and more transparent.
“I’ve actually wanted to have a real talk with a true dragon for a long time. But in your current state… can you really keep going?”
A divine projection is a special technique based on the SP system, something only gods can normally use. Cielru was indeed skilled enough to use it without being a god, but she couldn’t hold it for long. What’s more, earlier she had tried to use a strong spell to fight the Lord of Decay. Even though Violet had stopped her, it still cost her.
Now, this divine projection was like a candle in the wind, ready to disappear and return to her real body at any moment. She probably didn’t even have time to say much more.
As if she understood her own situation, the White Dragon King nodded and gave a small, helpless smile.
“That’s true. So, I’ll give you this first.”
She waved her hand lightly, and a small point of starlight flew out and landed right in the Priestess’s palm.
