En… energy beans?
The corner of Gao Ye’s mouth twitched.
What strange thing is Sister Lin Lin saying again?
The staff at the medicine counter looked completely confused.
“W-What energy beans?”
“I mean the cheat item in Plants vs. Zombies 2 that makes plants stronger, like letting Ip Man punch super fast… ah—no no no, that’s not it!”
Lin Lin suddenly realized her mistake and immediately bowed again and again in apology.
“Sorry, sorry! I spaced out, I really spaced out! Um… the list is here!”
“Ah, you…”
The nurse smiled, took the paper from Lin Lin, nodded, and got all the medicine listed on it. After paying, Lin Lin picked up the medicine, called Gao Ye over, and prepared to go back to Lin Yu.
“So, what are we doing next?”
Gao Ye followed closely behind and asked curiously. Lin Lin tilted her head, what else could they do?
“Go home, of course. Take Lin Yu back, let him lie in bed, and rest for two days. What are you going to do?”
“I… I don’t really have anything to do. Um… how about I help you take your brother home, Sister Lin Lin?”
“Tsk.”
Lin Lin looked at her with suspicion. Why is this little devil being so obedient today?
It really felt like she was trying to please her.
Lin Lin shook her head. She didn’t want to trouble others.
“I’ll have your brother take you home. You already took leave, go enjoy yourself. We’re taking a taxi anyway, we don’t need extra help. I can handle getting him home by myself.”
“I’m free anyway~”
Gao Ye showed a sly smile. Lin Lin immediately sensed her intention and looked unhappy.
But she didn’t really have a good reason to refuse. After all, this girl did seem sincere.
“Hey, you’re really the idle one here. Your brother runs around all day. If he had watched things better, my school uniform wouldn’t have been ruined today.”
Lin Lin puffed up her cheeks. Since Gao Liang wasn’t around, she complained freely, treating it as a way to change the topic.
Gao Ye smiled and teased her.
“You can’t say that, Sister Lin Lin. My brother is running around for you~”
“For—”
Lin Lin stammered for a moment.
“For… no… it’s definitely not for me! Tsk. Maybe that team leader asked him for evidence, and he just took credit for it.”
“But at least the result is good, right?” Gao Ye said. “Didn’t my brother say it himself? From now on, no one at school can bully Sister Lin Lin anymore~”
“Tsk, stop talking. Who would believe that?”
Even though Lin Lin kept arguing, her face was getting redder and redder.
“That guy talks big, but he’s still at school! The main person who bullies me is him!”
“Pfft—doesn’t that make it kind of fun? Like, only my brother is allowed to bully Sister Lin Lin?”
Gao Ye looked like she was enjoying the drama, her face full of amusement. Lin Lin was so embarrassed and angry that her face turned red.
When Gao Ye realized Sister Lin Lin was already fuming like an angry pufferfish, she quickly waved her hands and coughed.
“Ahem—ahem! No, I was joking, hahaha…”
“Not funny!”
Lin Lin lowered her head and walked ahead angrily. But in truth, her heart was not calm at all.
For some reason, Gao Ye’s words had easily hit a weak spot.
How could that be fun?
Being bullied by her sworn enemy was something Lin Lin had always seen as a lifelong humiliation.
She would never accept it—ever!
The two of them quickly returned to Lin Yu. Seeing that the two guys were already chatting, Lin Lin shook the bag of medicine and said,
“Let’s go home!”
So the four of them sent Lin Yu home together. Just like before, the car stopped in the neighborhood. Gao Liang and Lin Lin supported Lin Yu upstairs.
Standing at the door of the apartment, Lin Lin paused to think.
How was she supposed to explain all of this to Mom and Dad?
In the end, she knocked on the door and waited for a long time, but no one opened it.
“Huh?”
Lin Lin froze. Lin Yu looked at his sister’s blank face, sighed, and guessed,
“They’re probably at work or out somewhere.”
“Yeah, probably. Good thing I brought the key.”
Lin Lin opened the door with her key. Sure enough, the house was empty. The two of them then helped her brother all the way to his bed.
After settling Lin Yu down, Lin Lin finally let out a breath of relief.
Ha~
Now there’s nothing to worry about~
“I want some water.”
Before Lin Lin could finish relaxing, Lin Yu spoke up. She froze for a second, then wiped the sweat from her forehead.
So much for “nothing to worry about.”
“Sigh, who told you to stand up for me and end up getting beaten like this~”
Lin Lin turned around to get some water from the living room. Gao Liang followed her out.
As Lin Lin picked up a cup, Gao Liang stood at the door and said,
“Lin Lin, I’ll head out first. Gao Ye is still waiting outside.”
“Oh, okay. You go first. Bye-bye~”
That was a surprisingly cute goodbye tone.
Gao Liang smiled, turned around, and was just about to step out of Lin Lin’s home when he ran straight into Lin Lin’s mom coming back.
“Oh? Student Gao? Why are you here? Is Lin Lin at home too?”
Seeing Gao Liang during school hours, Lin Lin’s mom was very surprised. Gao Liang felt a bit awkward, nodded, and said,
“Something happened. I helped Lin Lin bring Lin Yu home.”
“What happened?”
Lin Lin’s mom looked confused. Noticing the situation at the door, Lin Lin quickly came over and, with a helpless expression, prepared her mom mentally.
“Mom, um… Lin Yu, he… something happened. He got into a fight, and he was hurt pretty badly.”
“What?!”
Lin Lin’s mom was shocked and rushed into the house, heading straight for Lin Yu’s room.
When Lin Yu saw their mom come in, he tried to sit up right away. Lin Lin followed into the room, quickly stopped him, and handed him a cup of water.
“Don’t move around.”
“Okay…”
Lin Yu nodded helplessly. Their mom first checked his injuries, then asked worriedly,
“Xiao Yu, what happened to you? Who hit you?”
“Well… it’s a bit complicated. I’ll explain it slowly.”
Lin Yu rubbed his head and began telling her what happened.
Lin Lin stood there awkwardly, feeling a bit embarrassed and unsure what to do. Since there was nothing for her to help with…
She quietly left Lin Yu’s room, went back to the sofa, rested her chin on her hand, and started to relax.
Today really was exhausting, so tiring that she didn’t even want to think.
Gao Liang had already left. Her Mom was questioning her brother about his injuries. And her?
What should she do?
Maybe… she should stream tonight.
Even though Lin Lin hadn’t fully gotten over the prank yet, she still needed to stream more.
Hmm…
As she looked around the house, her eyes suddenly drifted toward the balcony.
A pile of clutter.
Come to think of it, didn’t Mom tell her to clean that last time?
