Volume 3 Chapter 6: Killing Intent Detection
After taking her time in the bathroom, the girl finally finished getting ready. She stretched, walked out, and sat down at the dining table, ready to eat breakfast with her family.
Her younger brother beside her had already picked up a piece of bread and was about to take a bite. Feeling a bit tired, Lin Lin looked at the bread and copied him, getting ready to eat as well.
But just as she was about to take a bite, suddenly—
【Ding! Killing Intent Detection alert: Do not eat the bread!】
Lin Lin froze. Her mouth stopped halfway, and she didn’t understand what was going on.
What was this? Why was Killing Intent Detection stopping her?
Could it be that she would choke to death just from eating breakfast?
Then, right after that, Lin Yu suddenly started coughing hard, as if something in the bread had gone down the wrong way. He coughed like crazy, his face turning red, and he urgently grabbed a cup—
“Water… water!”
Lin Yu shouted. Lin Lin was stunned, but she saw her mom quickly reach out and hand him a cup of water.
After drinking the water, Lin Yu took a long time to recover. When he finally calmed down, the way he looked at the breakfast was completely different.
Good grief…
This scene.
Seeing her brother’s frightened expression, Lin Lin couldn’t help but swallow nervously. She was scared too.
What just happened to her brother? Why was his reaction so strong?
“Ahahaha…” Mom laughed awkwardly from the side. “I saw mustard sauce on sale at the supermarket, so I wanted to change the taste a bit. I didn’t expect I might have added too much.”
“This… this is basically a lethal dose…”
Lin Yu complained weakly while still chugging water to wash it down.
Ah, so it was mustard.
Pfft—
Lin Lin almost laughed. Even though breakfast had once again turned into a disaster dish and Mom rushed off to fix it, Lin Lin couldn’t help watching her brother’s bad luck and thinking—
This Killing Intent Detection thing is actually kind of useful.
By the time Mom finally dealt with breakfast, it was already time to leave for school. With no other choice, she told them to bring lunch boxes or eat on the way. Then the two of them left the house one after the other.
On the way, Lin Lin munched on a bread slice with egg and thought about a problem. How could she make her stream really grow?
If you really thought about it, that other world idea was actually pretty good. If she could stream in another world, she really wouldn’t worry about gaining fans. She might even complete the mission in one or two months.
Of course, that might also attract more strange and unnecessary attention.
When she arrived at the classroom, everything looked the same as usual. Lin Lin sat down in her seat like always, completely ordinary.
“Good morning, Lin Lin~”
See? Just like usual. Even her rival greeted her like always.
“Good morning.”
A polite reply.
She sat down, ready to experience another normal day.
But…
This time, something suddenly felt different.
As soon as Lin Lin sat down, she froze.
Strange… what was going on?
Why did it suddenly feel like something was missing?
Lin Lin usually has the habit of keeping her desk tidy. Especially recently, as her grades have improved, she studies more often and uses her textbooks more frequently.
Because of that, she often cleans her desk. As a result, she is very sensitive to which books should be on her desk.
She froze for a moment and instinctively flipped through the stack of books. Just by feeling alone, Lin Lin already sensed that something was wrong.
“Huh? This isn’t right!” Lin Lin frowned.
She has a very good memory. As long as she thinks a little, she can quickly realize that several books are missing, just like now.
What’s going on?
Her first thought was that she might have remembered wrong. Maybe she had put those books into the desk drawer or inside her school bag?
So Lin Lin carefully searched again. She checked the desk drawer and her bag thoroughly, but still couldn’t find the missing books.
“Huh? How is that possible?” The girl frowned even more. They weren’t in the drawer and not in the bag either. So where did the books go?
Did they grow legs and run away?
That couldn’t be possible.
Wait a second!
Lin Lin tried to organize the situation.
First, she was definitely missing a few books. But exactly which ones, she couldn’t remember right away.
Usually, her desk is full of different books, and they are all main subjects. There are simply too many.
She could only check them one by one.
Which books were missing was one thing, but more important was figuring out where they went.
Where did they end up?
She thought for a moment. Could a classmate have taken them?
Lin Lin looked around the classroom, but besides a few students, there was no one else there.
“That’s strange… there aren’t many people,” Lin Lin frowned and checked the time. There was still some time before class started, so she checked her desk again.
Little by little, she finally figured out which books were missing.
English, Chinese, and Math… all main subjects.
“What’s wrong?” Seeing that Lin Lin had been fiddling with her desk since she entered the classroom, her deskmate, Gao Liang, finally spoke up.
Lin Lin was startled when she heard his voice, but quickly reacted. She lowered her head and spoke softly, “I’m missing a few books. I don’t know where they went. Gao Liang, did you take them?”
After speaking, she turned to look at him. Gao Liang, who had been reading, shook his head and replied with concern, “I didn’t take them. Could they be somewhere else? Did you check the desk drawer?”
“No…” Lin Lin frowned, feeling worried. “I looked everywhere. They’re not here… My Chinese, Math, and English textbooks are missing. Teacher Zhu will be here soon. What should I do…”
Hearing this, Gao Liang thought for a moment and then analyzed the situation for her.
“I don’t think someone took them. Think about it, Lin Lin. If I wanted to borrow your book and you weren’t here, I would only take one subject. No one would take three subjects at once. That’s not how borrowing works.”
“Then why…” Lin Lin’s voice became a bit restless.
Even so, she had to admit that Gao Liang was right. In this situation, normal borrowing didn’t make sense at all.
So… what could it be?
Lin Lin thought for a long time but still couldn’t find a good answer. The more she thought, the more anxious she became. Class was about to start—this was urgent!
Suddenly—
【Ding! Killing Intent Detection alert: The host’s textbooks are all in the boys’ restroom.】
“Huh?”
Lin Lin was shocked. The boys’… boys’ restroom?
Why would her books be in the boys’ restroom?!
Her face was full of confusion, but she still trusted the system’s alert. It was usually very accurate.
But the boys’ restroom… how was she supposed to go in there?
And even worse, something very unpleasant came to mind. In the boys’ restroom, where exactly were the books put?
Thinking about this, Lin Lin suddenly thought of a possibility.
No… could someone have done this on purpose?
Steal her books, then deliberately put them in the boys’ restroom so she couldn’t find them, leaving her to worry for nothing?
As soon as that thought appeared, Lin Lin subconsciously looked at Han Kui, who was sitting calmly in the classroom.
That person…
Seeing her sitting there like nothing had happened, Lin Lin hesitated again. But thinking carefully, that person usually wouldn’t come to school this early, right?
Lin Lin quickly turned her head and lowered her voice as she asked Gao Liang, “Gao Liang, did you see anyone come to my desk?”
“I don’t think so. At least, I didn’t see anyone after I arrived,” he replied.
“Then… when did Han Kui come into the classroom?” Lin Lin asked sharply.
However, Gao Liang’s answer disappointed her.
He shook his head and denied her guess. “She probably came in after I did. Hmm, Lin Lin, do you think she took your books?”
“I’m just a little suspicious,” Lin Lin sighed. Without clear evidence, she couldn’t directly accuse anyone.
There were cameras in the classroom, but she had heard that the academic office’s monitoring system broke a few days ago and would take a week to fix.
Lin Lin felt even more upset. It seemed someone had held a grudge against her for a while and chose the right moment to mess with her.
Anyway, no matter what, Lin Lin decided to get her books back first so she could attend class.
But… the boys’ restroom…
With no other choice, Lin Lin turned to Gao Liang. “Gao Liang… could you go to the boys’ restroom and… get my books for me?”
Hearing her request, Gao Liang froze for a moment.
“Are you sure?” He looked at her in confusion. He didn’t understand why the books were in the boys’ restroom, or how she suddenly knew where they were.
But Lin Lin nodded firmly.
“Alright,” Gao Liang agreed. He was willing to trust her, so he decided to help.
“Thanks. Um… I’m not sure exactly where they are, so please look around carefully,” Lin Lin said, a bit embarrassed to trouble her rival.
Gao Liang nodded, stood up from his seat, and walked toward the classroom door.
As soon as he left the classroom, Lin Lin stood up as well and followed him, planning to wait outside the boys’ restroom.
They walked together, and finally Lin Lin’s eyes stopped on the sign for the boys’ restroom.
The boys’ restroom…
Ah, what a strangely familiar place.
She watched her rival walk in. Not long after, he came back out, holding several books.
Lin Lin felt nervous. Just thinking that the books might be ruined made her body tremble slightly.
Thankfully, when Gao Liang placed the books into her hands, she confirmed that they were completely fine.
However, Gao Liang shook his head and said, “The person put the books on the anti-theft bars of the restroom window. I only noticed them because I looked carefully. They clearly didn’t want anyone to find them. Seriously… who would do something like this?”
“I’m afraid this can’t really be called a prank…” Lin Lin said with worry.
