Chapter 238: When the Guess Becomes Reality
An Han hid under the blanket the whole morning, and even slept again without a care. It wasn’t until lunchtime that she finally, unwillingly, crawled out of bed.
She really didn’t want to see her father… It was too embarrassing.
She moved slowly, like she was walking toward hell, thinking about whether she should ask her mother if she could skip lunch.
“An Han! Come eat!” Her mother’s voice came from downstairs.
An Han stood still for a moment, feeling nervous, but in the end, she couldn’t resist her empty stomach and forced herself to act normal as she walked out of the room.
Looking down from the stairs, she saw that her family had already started eating. Maybe they heard her door open, because her father lifted his head, and their eyes met.
An Han’s face instantly turned red. She quickly looked away and ran downstairs.
Still so embarrassing… And she was really scared her father would feel like she was playing with him.
Her image was ruined again.
Before this, her father had seen her as an outgoing, somewhat independent son. Even though she was short, she looked clean and handsome. Other than being too skinny and unable to find a girlfriend, which worried her father, everything else looked fine because distance made impressions softer.
But now, who knew how her father saw her in his mind?
An Han let out a quiet sigh and forced herself to sit at the dining table under her father’s gaze.
She could feel her father’s eyes occasionally sweep over her chest. Even though she wore a thick coat, waves of shame still rushed up her neck.
Her face grew even redder. Her ears were burning. She lowered her head, grabbed some food, and ate quickly like someone who just wanted to be done.
The sooner she finished, the sooner she could run back to her room and hide again.
Her father looked at her flushed cheeks and really didn’t understand how his cheerful and lively son had turned into such a shy and introverted person today.
And as a boy, why did he look so cute and delicate when he was embarrassed?
His eyelid twitched, and he tried to explain it to himself.
Maybe the chest development caused huge psychological stress for him?
He was still young, cared about people’s opinions, and didn’t know what to do, so he kept hiding it.
The father looked at the mother across the table, only to see that she acted completely normal. She even put a homemade fried chicken leg into An Han’s bowl.
“Try it. See how different it tastes from the ones outside.”
An Han picked up the chicken leg and took a small bite. She quietly said, “Tastes a bit better than outside.”
“It’s also healthier than what they sell, but don’t eat too much. It will make you gain weight.”
“A little chubby is good for An Han. He’s way too skinny, looks like he might fall over anytime,” the father said, unable to hold back. He had always thought his son was too thin. This time, his son had gone from “thin” to “fragile.”
The mother rolled her eyes at him but didn’t say more.
The father didn’t really feel like eating. His eyes almost never left An Han. And once again, the wild guess he had before returned to his mind.
Could it be that my son is actually a daughter?
At first, this idea was ridiculous. But after seeing his child’s B+ sized chest… it no longer felt impossible.
And his wife’s attitude was strange too…
He wasn’t home often, but he understood his wife’s personality.
If An Han was acting more feminine, his wife should have been the first to notice and get angry.
“You two… are hiding something from me, right?”
An Han trembled, lowered her head, continued shoveling food into her mouth, already preparing to escape as soon as possible.
When her mother heard this question, she wanted to brush it off with a casual reply like at breakfast, but she suddenly noticed something strange about An Han.
“An Han?” she asked, giving her a questioning look.
An Han looked back at her pitifully.
Ah, it’s exposed.
Her mother didn’t know how much had been revealed, but seeing An Han’s nervous and worried expression, she realized that this was probably something that couldn’t be hidden.
Worried that there might be a conflict or argument, her mother calmly took her little sister’s bowl, added some more food, and said, “Go upstairs and eat while watching TV.”
Her little sister’s eyes lit up. She grabbed the bowl excitedly and ran upstairs. “I’m going to watch cartoons!”
Knowing that An Han was too shy to speak, her mother gently patted An Han’s lowered head.
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle it. You can go upstairs and eat too.”
“I just finished eating…”
Her father looked at the two of them in confusion. That wild guess he had… it seemed closer and closer to reality.
Watching An Han leave, he finally asked, almost helplessly, “An Han… is a girl?”
Her mother smiled. “You accepted it very quickly. An Han was worried you’d get angry.”
“……”
This wasn’t “accepting quickly.” He had already been shocked by An Han’s chest size earlier.
“Th-This… what’s really going on?”
Faced with this question, her mother didn’t know everything either. She pushed her hair back, frowned slightly, and shook her head. “I don’t know all the details. An Han won’t say.”
“But I’ve checked her myself. She really is a girl, and she even has periods.”
Before the father could speak, she added, “Her friends also took her to the hospital for a full check-up. There’s nothing wrong with her health. Medically, she is confirmed to be a girl.”
“Then… why?” Her father’s brows were tightly furrowed, deep wrinkles forming between them.
“Since it’s confirmed she’s a daughter, does the reason really matter?”
He couldn’t calm his emotions. His breathing became heavier and faster, and he clenched and unclenched his fists.
He had planned to buy a house for An Han this trip, pay the down payment, and use the rest of his working life to help repay it. He had hoped An Han would find a beautiful, kind daughter-in-law, and he dreamed of retiring and having three generations under one roof.
He had gone abroad to work years ago, only coming home once or twice a year, all for his child.
And now… his son had turned into a daughter?
“They’re both your child. Why can’t you accept it?” Her mother understood his feelings. She had been through something similar before.
“But… but…” His father stammered, unsure what to say.
Finally, he let out a long sigh, placed his hand on his forehead, rubbed his temples, and asked in a low voice, “Then… what will she do in the future?”
She was small and thin, not very pretty, and as a boy, her height had been below average. As a girl, she didn’t inherit her mother’s youthful looks either.
“How long has this been happening?”
“About a few months.”
And in these few months, her mental state was also a concern.
Though her father still found it hard to accept, he suggested, “Let’s take her to a hospital in the city to see a psychologist.”
“And I also want to see that medical report.”
“It’s best if we take her for another check-up ourselves…”
Then came the faint sound of tiptoeing footsteps on the stairs.
His father looked up instinctively, and saw a small, cute, pure-looking girl, shy and fearful, slowly making her way down the stairs.
“???”
He suddenly felt… having a daughter wasn’t so bad after all.
