Chapter 264: A Kind and Friendly Family

“You already told the kid to stay for lunch, and now you want to chase him away? Wouldn’t that sound terrible if people heard about it?”

Her mother frowned and scolded her father a little. Then she looked up at Su Peng with a big warm smile and gently put her arm around his shoulder:

“Come in first. Tell Auntie what you want to eat. It’s just about lunchtime.”

Su Peng froze for a moment, then felt overjoyed. He held back his urge to laugh and instead gave a polite smile and nodded, following An Han’s mother into the house.

An Han and her father were left standing there. They looked at each other, both confused and unsure.

“Uh...” She reacted quickly and happily ran inside.

But her father was still stunned. He scratched his head in disbelief, then looked down at the little sister beside him.

“What is going on in your mom’s head?”

Her little sister answered without hesitation. “Mom was bribed!”

“Just with two cosmetics?” Her father gasped coldly.

“Yes! At least give her a whole box! And where’s my gift?”

“Don’t talk nonsense.”

Ignoring her father, her little sister ran inside and shouted, “Brother-in-law! My gift!”

Almost immediately, both parents smacked the back of her head. “Stop talking nonsense!”

“Okaay~”

The scene was completely different from what An Han imagined. She expected Su Peng to be beaten and thrown out the moment he entered. But the warm and kind atmosphere in front of her made her wonder if she was dreaming.

She looked at her mother’s gentle smile, then at Su Peng’s happy expression. They looked so harmonious, like a real family. She should have felt happy, but instead An Han felt a strange sense of betrayal.

Does this mean, in Mom’s eyes, I’m only worth two bottles of cosmetics?

Her heart felt sour for a second. But this also meant the mission was not as hard as she thought.

Mission two only required Su Peng to clearly explain their relationship to her parents. There was no requirement to gain their approval. So even if Su Peng had his legs broken, as long as he explained things clearly, the mission would succeed.

But now it looked like they would achieve more than expected.

Mother invited Su Peng to sit on the living room sofa. She kindly took out a bottle of sugar-free Coke that Father usually bought only for An Han.

“Have some Coke first. Auntie will cook now. Just tell me what you want to eat.”

“Okay.” Su Peng smiled politely and nodded.

He was afraid he might laugh out loud by accident.

He thought this trip would be extremely difficult, but the beginning was already perfect.

An Han’s mother patted his shoulder kindly and, before leaving the room, dragged her father aside to talk.

An Han walked into the living room with a smile. She sneaked a look at her parents talking quietly. Clearly, her mother was lecturing her father. His head kept nodding nonstop.

“See? Easy.” Su Peng said calmly, taking a sip of Coke. “I don’t know why you were so worried.”

“How would I know my mom was this easily tempted by expensive things?”

An Han rolled her eyes at him. She was about to sit on the sofa when her father suddenly rushed forward and sat right next to Su Peng.

She blinked, confused. Then she saw her little sister also leave her mother’s side and jump onto the sofa, quickly taking up the remaining space.

Originally they could squeeze a bit so An Han could sit, but the three on the sofa were all carefully keeping their distance, making the space completely full.

She had no idea what was happening and had no choice but to sit at the desk.

“Su Peng, right?” Her father took out tea cups and tea leaves from under the table and asked while making tea, “That Moutai you brought...”

“It’s right here, Uncle.” Su Peng placed the bottles on the table.

Her father finally looked satisfied.

“And what about mine?” Her little sister asked with bright, expectant eyes.

Su Peng had completely forgotten her gift. He froze for a second, then smiled and comforted her.

“I’ll take you to the street later and buy you whatever you want, okay?”

“Okay!”

And just like that, every single obstacle was completely solved.

Su Peng gave An Han a look that meant “Don’t worry.”

But then, the atmosphere in the living room slowly became stiff. Su Peng kept trying to read the room, while An Han’s father calmly made tea and drank it without saying a single word. Meanwhile, her little sister happily played with Su Peng’s foldable phone.

“Um… Uncle?” Su Peng felt he should take the initiative. He carefully began, “About me and An Han…”

“You’re classmates, right? I know who you are.”

“Yeah, right, we’ve been classmates for almost three years in college. We’ve always gotten along very well,” Su Peng quickly followed Father’s words. “Our dorms are next to each other. We usually play games together, go to class together…”

Her father’s expression grew darker and darker, making Su Peng extremely nervous.

An Han quickly shot him a look telling him to stop rushing and wait for the right moment.

Luckily, at this time her mother finished cooking and called out, “Come and eat!”

Everyone in the living room slowly walked toward the dining table. And at that moment, An Han noticed something even stranger—

Her father seemed to be intentionally keeping her away from Su Peng.

He had taken over the sofa earlier, and now he was even standing right between her and Su Peng on purpose.

When they sat at the dining table, An Han wanted to sit beside Su Peng, but her father grabbed Su Peng’s shoulder and forced him to sit next to him instead. Then both parents sat on either side of him.

Now even Su Peng felt something was wrong.

He stretched his neck, looked around nervously, no five hundred men with axes hiding nearby… then looked again at the little sister who was already happily eating, no poison in the dishes…

But everything felt like a trap!

An Han’s mother warmly put different dishes into Su Peng’s bowl, smiling kindly while asking about his family.

“What does your family do?”

“They run a company...”

“How many people in your family?”

“Just me and my parents.”

“Oh~ You look so handsome. You must have a girlfriend, right?”

Su Peng hesitantly nodded, “Yeah… I think I do?”

He felt like someone was staring at the back of his neck with a cold, sharp gaze. His whole body had goosebumps. But when he looked up at An Han’s parents, he only saw two very kind faces.

He had fought battles in games, saved Princess Zelda, and even defeated tough bosses… But right now he felt like a little lamb waiting to be slaughtered.

Su Peng couldn’t hold it anymore. He figured since his future in-laws already accepted the gifts, maybe they wouldn’t be too harsh. So he decided to say it directly.

“An Han and I are dating. I wanted to ask for your—”

PA!

Father suddenly put his chopsticks down and looked at him with an unfriendly face.

Her mother was still smiling kindly, but her words were not kind at all.

“No, you can’t.”

“Mom…” An Han complained, but both parents completely ignored her.

“You came for lunch and now you want to take An Han away too?” Her father asked coldly. “The things you gave us have already been returned.”

Her mother then dropped her friendly act and glanced at the little sister.

Little sister nodded quickly and proudly. “I threw them back through the car window!”

Su Peng quickly used the lines he had found online for dealing with future in-laws.

“I will never let An Han suffer! And my family really likes her too…”

Both parents turned to look at An Han at the same time.
