Chapter 31: Peiya is MVP Too!
“You mean the tracking potion? Yeah, it’s actually similar to a teleport stone. However you used the teleport stone before, just use the tracking potion the same way.”
“But I’ve never heard of something like this before?”
Elise thought back to what she had read in books before. There was nothing about this in them.
Back then, the common way was still to use teleport stones. Even if it cost more gold, staying alive was more important.
“Of course. The kingdom’s mainstream thinking wouldn’t bother with these fancy tricks. To be honest, what I’m doing is just finding a loophole. If you told the church scholars about it, they would probably think it’s just a clever trick, or even something forbidden that goes against divine authority. After all, deeper knowledge has always been tightly controlled by the Church. I’ve even been thinking about sneaking into the Holy Academy to get some books to read.”
“That’s probably impossible. You’re already this strong without their knowledge. If you really got access to it, I bet that old Pope wouldn’t be able to sleep at night, he’d be so angry he might come bite you at your doorstep.”
“Ah, is he really that petty?”
Peiya was a bit shocked, thinking to herself how awful that old man sounded.
“Of course. I don’t like the Church much either, but thanks to you, I finally understand what they’re afraid of. I didn’t understand before why they control knowledge so strictly, but now I get it. They’re guarding against geniuses like you. From now on, I’m going to call you a little monster instead.”
Elise smiled in a meaningful way.
If those old scholars at the Holy Academy found out about Peiya’s achievements, their beards would probably stand straight up from shock.
But thinking about it again…
Is Peiya really just a support?
This clearly isn’t something a normal support can do. Normally, supports just follow the team and give group buffs.
But if the support does all the work, are you trying to steal the MVP?
Usually, supports don’t get very high ratings in a team. They often start around 3.0 and are sometimes scolded by teammates as “just getting carried.”
As for top-tier supports, they are extremely rare.
And once one appears, the kingdom protects them carefully.
Everyone knows how hard it is to find a talented support these days.
Elise could clearly feel that Peiya already had the potential to surpass those top supports—and not just by a little.
Coming back to her senses, Peiya looked shocked. “Little monster? That sounds terrible. I won’t accept that name.”
“Then I’ll call you little baby.”
“Huh? You tricked me.”
“No, I’m just stating a fact. Tell me, are you really just a simple support?”
Peiya looked at the serious Elise and suddenly felt like she might get dissected and studied.
“Of course. I registered as a support adventurer. Look at my badge, I’m not lying.”
“But why are you doing everyone else’s job too?”
“What’s wrong with that? Support roles have many different types of abilities. And supports usually learn more skills than others in a team.”
“A little more? That’s more like a lot more…”
She knew she couldn’t take Peiya’s words at face value.
In a proper academy, someone like her would already be treated like a treasure. Only in the mixed crowd of the Adventurers’ Guild could she stay unnoticed.
“This is way more than just ‘a few extra skills.’ In just the past few days, I’ve already seen that your abilities go far beyond what normal supports can do. Wait… don’t tell me you can do every support role?”
If she really could do everything a support does, that would be unbelievable…
If Elise had to give an example, it would be like different majors under one big field of study.
Even mastering one major is already difficult, let alone knowing many.
But if someone mastered all of them, they would hardly be human anymore.
There was a saying teachers often used in the academy, ‘If you don’t practice your sword properly, one day your team’s support will take the MVP.’
But in Peiya’s case… who could possibly compete with her?
Teammates would all be treated like they were just being carried.
At the same time, Peiya moved her lips a little and explained,
“That’s impossible. For example, I can’t do things like reviving teammates or handling funerals from start to finish. That kind of stuff is too strange, I can’t learn it.”
In the past, the Dawn Guild rarely had any deaths, so they didn’t need that kind of ability at all. And to activate the “send-off and revival” effect. You also had to learn a very special musical instrument, a metal tube that made a very sharp and unpleasant sound.
Carrying that thing on missions really felt out of place.
Peiya remembered that once, someone formed a temporary team to defeat a boss.
By chance, a lone necromancer-type support joined the group. Since the team members didn’t know each other well, their skill levels were uneven, and their teamwork was poor, injuries were unavoidable.
So when a teammate fell down, something strange happened. The healer was just about to act, but the necromancer support saw a chance to finally use her skills.
She had trained for so long in “send-off and revival”, wasn’t this the moment she had been waiting for?
So she quickly took out her instrument and started casting magic on the spot.
And the magic effect was related to volume, the louder the sound, the stronger the effect.
The result?
The other teammates were scared by the loud noise. They thought the support was possessed by a ghost and rushed over to “exorcise” her… physically.
After that, there was an unspoken rule. In temporary teams, if someone specialized in revival-type support, they shouldn’t join. If discovered, they would be kicked out immediately.
After all, imagine this…
Your teammate just fell down and isn’t even fully dead yet, and you already start playing funeral music.
Picture it: a teammate gets injured and collapses, and the support immediately jumps out—
Playing music, chanting, scattering paper offerings… a full smooth “funeral service combo.”
Even if the teammate still had a bit of life left, they might get “blown to death” by the support.
Peiya really had no interest in learning such creepy skills.
Elise rubbed her aching temples and couldn’t help but complain.
“A normal support wouldn’t go out of their way to learn funeral and revival skills anyway. Let me ask it another way, does that mean all your abilities are practical support skills?”
“You could say that. But mostly it’s because I learned a lot of random things before. I often took small freelance jobs, so I ended up learning knowledge from many different classes. By the way, I saw the sword bag you had on the carriage earlier. Are you a swordswoman?”
“That’s right. I also know a bit of magic, but I’m more used to using a sword.” Elise crossed her arms and carefully looked at Peiya.
“Then you’re not normal either. And you still call me a little monster? If I’m a little monster, then you’re a big monster.”
“Alright, alright. I’m the big monster, you’re the little monster. Back to the point, have you noticed something?”
“What is it?”
“It feels like the two of us alone can already form a team. You give me buffs, and I handle the fighting.”
Peiya frowned and thought about it. It actually seemed true. Two-person teams weren’t unheard of in the Adventurers’ Guild, but usually they were formed by people no one else wanted, pitiful ones forced to group together.
Most of the time, they acted more like add-ons, following other teams around to pick up leftover loot. They also had to carry a lot of potions.
That way, when they met other teams, they could help by providing supplies and get a share of the rewards in the end.
But with the abilities the two of them had combined… it seemed like there was no need for anyone else.
“What, looking at you like that… are you thinking of teaming up with me? I have a lot of bad habits, you know. Be careful, I might sneak and eat your food at night.”
Peiya covered her mouth with her hand and joked around. But this time, Elise didn’t give her any way out.
“No problem. You can eat whatever you want. You can even come to my room and eat while I watch. If it’s not enough, I’ll give you my share too. How about that?”
Peiya was speechless.
Elise smiled slightly. She had realized something.
When dealing with a girl like Peiya, the most effective method is…
To be direct.
Elise just needs to act boldly.
But Peiya… will start overthinking everything.
