Chapter 37: Not Given by Mistake
Monday was an annoying day.
Not only because you couldn’t sleep in and had to go early to the Adventurers’ Guild, but also because you had to compete with other adventurers to grab the newly posted quests.
Every Monday, the guild staff would replace all the quests on the notice board.
During this time, adventurers would stare closely at the board, trying to find a suitable job.
Peiya held a bottle of milk, drinking while walking. From far away, she could already see a huge crowd at the entrance of the guild.
“So many people again today…”
“Of course. Everyone is full of energy every week, right?”
“Who said that?”
Peiya looked up and saw Guild Leader Maya in her dark blue uniform.
“Wait… did you put some kind of tracking spell on me? Why do you show up wherever I go?”
“Of course not. I just happened to see you and came over. So, how is it? Any monster you’re planning to hunt recently?”
Peiya gave her an annoyed look and muttered,
“I’m planning to form a temporary team with Elise. Our target is the Ice Bear King. But last time you said even official teams couldn’t handle it. Isn’t it a bit reckless for us to try?”
After all, Maya was an experienced guild staff member. It made sense to ask her about this.
“Teaming up with Elise is a clear decision. She used to work on the front lines, so her advice is probably more useful than mine.”
“If it were me, I’d suggest you bring plenty of food. Some staff reported that the mine is very deep, it’s not easy to come out once you go in. You should prepare for a long-term mission. Do you have enough teleport stones? If not, I can give you some.”
“I have enough. Now that we’re here, don’t you need to get back to work?”
“No need. I’ll just check if there are any new announcements today.”
Peiya frowned slightly.
“Aren’t you the guild leader? Don’t you already know what quests will be posted?”
Maya shook her head.
“Even as the guild leader, I have many things to handle. The Ice Bear King took up a lot of my time recently. And right now, the higher-ups are very concerned about the witch. They want us to watch for any possible appearance of the witch 24 hours a day. The king really wants to catch her this time.”
“Re-really? I thought that was the church’s job before?”
Peiya thought for a moment. If anyone hated witches the most, it would be those old men in the church.
“It used to be. But this time, the king is clearly in a hurry. He probably wants to use the witch’s power for something. As for the details, I can’t tell you yet. You’ll have to find out yourself.”
“How can you do that? Don’t suddenly act mysterious and leave me hanging!”
Maya smiled apologetically.
“Sorry, those are the rules. I don’t want to end up in jail.”
“Fine… that’s already a lot of information. Thanks.”
Peiya glanced over the notice board and, as expected, saw the quest for the Ice Bear King.
In the remarks section, it was marked: “A+ to S Rank.”
Normally, quest difficulty started from D rank.
A+ level quests were usually only taken by top guilds.
If an ordinary guild tried to take it, it would be like a moth flying into a flame.
Peiya looked around in the corner and, as expected, saw the “classic quest”.
[Rescue a kitten – Rank A]
She frowned. It wasn’t like there had never been quests to save cats or dogs before. But this time, the rank was clearly wrong.
“A kitten… at A rank?”
Guild Leader Maya pointed lower on the notice.
Peiya looked again and couldn’t help but gasp.
“This ‘cat’ is really big…”
From the picture, it looked more like a tiger.
The description said it was trapped near the mine where the Ice Bear King lived. It had been frightened and didn’t dare to return.
They were asking for someone kind to bring it back. The Beast Tamer Association would give a big reward!
“What is the Beast Tamer Association? I’ve never heard of it. A circus?”
Peiya looked at Maya, who was deep in thought. With her wide network, she probably knew more.
After all, any quest posted on the guild board usually passed through Maya first.
“It’s an old organization. It’s said they have the power to tame beasts and have always focused on controlling magical creatures. If even they are troubled by this quest, then it won’t be easy. I remember that tiger. It’s called the Red Tiger, a subtype of the Sword Tiger. It’s a bit weaker than a Sword Tiger, but it has a gentler personality, so it’s easier to tame. I guess they want to use it to learn how to tame Sword Tigers in the future.”
“They’re aiming that high?”
Peiya imagined it and found it hard to believe.
She didn’t know much about beast taming. It was only after Maya mentioned it that she remembered such a thing existed.
“If their organization is that strong, why can’t they even rescue one Red Tiger?”
“I’m not sure. Maybe they have their own difficulties. Do you want to come inside with me?”
“Sure. I was planning to get an application form today anyway. If I form a temporary team with Elise, can we still receive normal guild rewards?”
“Of course. This time, the reward is a high-level weapon forging stone.”
Peiya was surprised.
“Wow, since when is the guild so generous?”
She remembered that high-level materials were very rare. They were usually not given out unless necessary.
“Well, the Ice Bear King is really troublesome. Come with me.”
Maya led Peiya into the office, took out a form from the desk drawer, and pointed at the blank spaces.
“Write your name here, and your teammate’s name here. When you’re done, just give it back to me.”
Maya bent down under the desk for a moment.
Peiya looked at the form and frowned.
“Name, age… wait, why is there marital status and date of birth? What kind of form is this?”
This didn’t look right at all!
Normally, a team application only needed basic information. This one was almost like a full personal registration.
Something was definitely wrong!
Maya froze for a moment, then turned to Peiya, who looked shocked.
“What? Wait… did I give you the wrong form? That shouldn’t be possible. Take another look.”
“Really? Let me check again…”
Peiya looked further down, and suddenly saw a very clear and shocking words.
Marriage health check.
Ma… marriage check?!
Her face instantly turned red.
W-what kind of form is this?!
“Guild Leader Maya, please check again! Since when does a team application include a marriage check?!”
Maya picked up the form and looked through it carefully. When she saw the inappropriate sections, she suddenly realized.
“Oh no… how did I give you the marriage registration form instead?!”
