Chapter 5: A Tomorrow Without Tears
The carrier pigeon took off smoothly. This bird had been given to her by that person before, and it could almost always find the right place.
Elise didn’t know how it worked. She only knew that everything the sender said was always very imaginative, as if anything that happened to her could somehow make sense.
She just didn’t know if she would be able to meet her this time after coming back.
Elise looked at the pigeon flying into the gray sky. Her slender fingers unconsciously tightened on her clothes, and a faint light flashed in her eyes.
………………………………
Back at home, Peiya lay on the bed. It took her a long time to calm down. During that time, she also figured out why she had reacted like that.
Right now, she was not complete yet. Only by fully absorbing the “Witch’s Heart” inside her could she truly become a witch.
She could also forcefully absorb it directly, but that would easily corrupt her mind and turn her into a walking corpse.
Without any way to resist it, doing that would be the same as seeking death.
The Witch’s Heart contained too much mixed power. She didn’t want to become its puppet. But it wasn’t all bad news.
She raised her pale hand, her soft fingers clearly shaped.
Now, she was healthy.
And the Witch’s Heart could greatly improve her physical abilities.
Maybe in the future, she could even develop new powers. Just as Peiya was feeling a little proud of herself, a pigeon suddenly landed outside the window.
“A new letter?”
Peiya looked at it with some doubt, then suddenly realized something.
Her appearance had completely changed, so how did the pigeon recognize her?
“Coo, coo.”
Peiya scattered some rice for the pigeon and took out the letter. On the paper, in clear writing, it said,
“I’ve recovered and returned. I have a request for you, but we need to meet in person. Location: Adventurers’ Restaurant, Table No. 9. Time: you decide.”
Peiya was a little surprised. It had been a long time since she last received a letter from this person.
This person was like a mysterious sponsor she had met by chance when doing odd jobs in the past. They had never met face to face.
They only communicated through letters, accepting bounty tasks. Thinking about how this person once mentioned her illness, Peiya didn’t expect her to recover so quickly. After thinking for a moment, she wrote back.
“Okay. Let’s meet tomorrow.”
After eating and drinking enough, the pigeon watched Peiya finish writing, then cooed again.
“Alright, it’s done. Go deliver it.”
“Coo?”
“You’re asking about me? I’m still Peiya.”
Hearing the familiar name, the pigeon flew away. Maybe it couldn’t understand the difference between male and female.
Sigh… she wondered if Sean would still recognize her.
Some people said dogs recognize people by smell.
Peiya lowered her head and sniffed herself. She actually smelled quite nice. Was this what people called natural body scent?
Peiya didn’t think too much about it. Now that she had eaten her fill, the only thing she wanted to do was sleep.
Only those who had suffered from a stuffy nose would know how comfortable it is to sleep without it.
She jumped onto her bed and casually kicked her shoes aside. Her current body was like a petite girl, not much shorter than before, so the blanket was still big enough.
But the moment she touched the blanket, a voice echoed in her mind.
“Did I tell you that you can sleep now? Comfort me first.”
“Yes, Miss Anna.”
Peiya almost said it out loud. But when she looked around, there was no Anna, only an empty room.
Damn it… had she gotten used to being treated like a servant?
Peiya turned over and tried to sleep again. Her breathing was fine now, but her sleep was not peaceful at all.
In fact, she couldn’t fall asleep.
In the end, she helplessly decided to use her old “quick sleep method.”
But when she lifted the blanket, she suddenly realized that method didn’t work anymore.
Oh no… she might never enjoy that kind of “comfort” again.
……………………………
Anna lay on her bed, her stomach aching. She tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore and said angrily,
“Peiya, you idiot! Don’t you remember I feel unwell these days?”
Anna angrily lifted the blanket, only to find the room empty. Peiya was nowhere to be seen. His clothes were still on the table.
“Peiya… where are you?”
She called out a few more times, but still no one appeared.
Click—
The sound of the door opening came from the room.
Anna could no longer hold back and shouted angrily, “So you dare to come back? You’ve really got some nerve!”
“...Sister?”
Elise looked at her furious sister and simply nodded.
“Mm. I’ll take my things and leave.”
“Wait…”
Anna stared at her younger sister who had suddenly returned, completely stunned.
What made it worse was that she had just scolded her by accident.
Even though she didn’t particularly like Elise, she wouldn’t normally go that far.
“I was just talking nonsense just now. You’re really back?”
“Yes. I’ve taken my things. I’m leaving.”
“Where are you going?”
“To meet my pen pal.”
A pen pal?
Anna felt like her sister must have gone out and somehow lost her mind. She knew very well what her sister was like.
Since childhood, she hadn’t even had a single friend to play with. She only played with her dolls every day. And now she suddenly had a pen pal?
Who was she trying to fool?
Before, many noble young men had come to visit, and Elise wouldn’t even look at them.
And now she was saying she came back just to meet a pen pal? Anna almost wanted to laugh.
Still… maybe it wasn’t a bad thing. Her sister was already grown up, and it was a bit sad that she always had no one by her side.
More importantly, her own beloved was about to return.
At such a critical time, nothing could go wrong.
But after thinking again, Anna felt she was worrying too much. Elise had rejected so many men, there was no way she would compete with her.
At one point, Anna had even wondered if Elise simply wasn’t interested in men at all.
“Be careful. It’s very dangerous outside right now. Don’t get tricked by bad people.”
“Okay.”
Elise took her doll and left the house. She didn’t like living here. The servants always talked about which prince would marry her.
She didn’t like this place.
But her old doll was here.
The person in the letters had told her that it was normal for everyone to have their own interests. If there was a chance, that person even wanted to see her doll.
“Miss, where are we going now?”
“Back to the residence.”
Elise carefully put away the doll and wrote a line in her notebook:
[Bring the doll tomorrow to meet her]
After sitting in the carriage for a while, she added another line in her diary:
[Happy ^▽^]
……………………………
After Elise left, Anna struggled to get up from the bed. The pain in her body forced her to look for medicine herself.
In the past, whenever she had her period, Peiya would always prepare the medicine in advance. She only needed to open her mouth, eat warm food and take the medicine, and then rest through those days like a hibernating bear.
But today, the room was empty. After waiting for a while, a servant who heard the noise rushed in.
“Miss, are you feeling unwell?”
“The medicine. Bring me the medicine.”
The medicine…
The maid panicked and replied, “Usually, Master Peiya prepares your medicine. You said we are not allowed to touch your medicine cabinet.”
“Then go call him!”
Anna was so angry she felt dizzy. How dare he not come back at such a critical time?
“Master Peiya… he seems to have left today, Miss…”
Only then did Anna realize she had been the one who drove him away.
If she had known, she would have kept him a few more days. Enduring the pain, she got up to look for the medicine herself, but after searching the room, she couldn’t find it at all.
“Where is the medicine?”
“Miss, Master Peiya usually handles these things…”
“Enough! Don’t mention him again. That ungrateful guy… Inform the others, when our guild goes on missions in the future, don’t bring him along. If they find him troublesome and want to remove him, I won’t object.”
Anna smiled darkly. She knew that what Peiya cared about most was money. If she cut off his last source of income, then sooner or later, he would come back like a stray dog, obediently wagging his tail for her again.
