Chapter 8: Would Anyone Really Drive Away the Team’s Backbone?
Realizing she had gotten a bit too excited, Nara coughed lightly and said:
“Forgive me for asking, but achievements like yours would be very eye-catching even in the Royal City’s Adventurers’ Guild. Yet I don’t remember seeing you before. May I ask how I should address you?”
Nara wasn’t the kind of person who stayed in the office all day. She often moved around and kept up with rumors and news.
She had already looked through Peiya’s materials briefly, every single one was impressive.
If all these patents were approved, this girl in front of her would instantly become one of the most talked-about rising stars in the kingdom. Her future would be limitless.
And their Dikert Guild would also benefit from it. The potential value here was too big to explain in just a few words.
But still…
She couldn’t remember any new young talent like this recently.
If she had to name someone, maybe Peiya from the top guild had some ability.
She often saw “him” working hard in the library. In this peaceful era, it was rare to see a young person so hardworking.
In a way, it was almost a bit sad…
“Just call me Peiya. These are things I’ve accumulated over time. Sorry for the trouble.”
Nara was slightly surprised.
Was “Peiya” some kind of name used by strong people?
Why did two strong people both use this name?
But she didn’t think too much about it and replied sincerely:
“Miss Peiya, not at all, we should be thanking you. Here, have some tea.”
Nara spoke very carefully. The more casually Peiya acted, the more nervous she became.
If a normal person had created this many patents, they would probably have turned gray from overwork.
But this girl looked so young, without any signs of aging at all.
That was truly terrifying!
Even the guild leader only achieved great results after becoming leader.
But Peiya? Clearly talented at such a young age.
Nara glanced toward the door, where a shadow just passed by, then stood up and said:
“The guild leader seems to have arrived. Please wait here, I’ll see if I can get you a special review slot.”
“Alright.”
…………………………
At the guild leader’s office,
The newly arrived leader looked at Nara, who was unusually excited, almost glowing with happiness, and felt confused.
“What happened? Why are you so happy?”
“President Maya, I have some good news for you. But what I’m about to say… don’t be shocked.”
Maya frowned slightly and smiled.
“Why would I be shocked? Did you win Best Guild Manager of the Year?”
Nara clicked her tongue.
“You always tease me. What I’m about to say is much more shocking, one hundred times more, no, ten thousand times more!”
“Now I’m really curious. What is it? Stop keeping me in suspense. I’ve never seen you this talkative before.”
“Here, look at this.”
Nara placed a thick stack of documents on the table, almost as tall as a small pile.
Seeing that Maya still didn’t realize the seriousness, Nara added,
“All of these are patent applications submitted by one person today. I’ve checked them, the approval rate should be very high. To be honest, some scholars don’t even write this clearly.”
“What?!”
Maya felt that Nara was still being too modest.
You call this good news? This is more like a shock.
“Are you sure all of this was written by one person?”
As someone who had been the guild leader for many years, Maya knew exactly what it would mean if all these patents were approved.
Sometimes, the rise or fall of a family depends on the resources they control. Back then, the Anthony family became powerful because they held key technologies.
Even big families are like this, so for one person, it matters even more.
Nara gave President Maya enough time to process the situation. When the moment felt right, she spoke directly.
“She’s still waiting outside. But I don’t suggest you meet her right now. With how excited you are, what if you scare her?”
“Then why did you come to me?”
Maya didn’t believe Nara came just to share news.
“Well, we’ve never handled this many patents before. I don’t have the authority for it, so you should report it to higher management. Let’s quickly start a special process and approve these patents as soon as possible. We shouldn’t keep her waiting.”
“That makes sense. So you’ll continue talking with her and learn more about her situation?”
“Of course. Why, is there a problem?”
Maya nodded and said seriously,
“For such an outstanding new talent in our guild, how can I just sit back? If she has any needs, the Dikert Guild will fully support her. I’ll leave this matter to you. Just don’t ask too directly, be a bit subtle, so other guilds won’t use it against us.”
“Don’t worry, I know how to handle this. Oh, should we also share information about the mineral vein we’ve been exploring?”
Maya hesitated for a moment.
“The mining area is still dangerous. Let me confirm more details first. A few days won’t make a difference.”
“Got it~”
Nara returned quickly with the forms, full of excitement.
“Miss Peiya, good news! The president has agreed. Please fill out this form. After that, we’ll assign specialists to speed up the review of your projects. From now on, if you need anything, just come directly to me. No need to go through the front desk. Also, this is an advance payment. Once your patents are approved, you’ll receive even more gold. Please don’t worry, the Dikert Guild will protect your rights to the very end.”
“No problem.”
Peiya accepted the gold. Then Nara continued,
“Do you currently belong to any guild?”
“Well… not at the moment.”
“I see. Then for the rewards, I’ll prepare them as checks and keep them for you. Someone will notify you when they’re ready. Please be patient. Also, I managed to get a small benefit for you. For talented members like you, our guild has support policies. As long as your requests are reasonable, we will do our best to fulfill them. Please feel free to ask for anything, your smile is what motivates us to serve you!”
Nara clapped her hands lightly. After working in the guild for so long, she knew exactly how to keep talented people.
This was a rare opportunity, she couldn’t mess it up.
Peiya thought for a moment. If she had to name a need, there was really only one.
“Do you have a place to stay? Renting is fine too.”
Her old home was definitely no longer safe.
Even though she didn’t think Anna would go that far, it was better to be cautious.
With Anna’s resources, finding her would only be a matter of time.
It was better to be careful about everything.
When Nara heard this, her eyes lit up.
Having a request was good, what she feared most were people with no needs at all.
“Accommodation is easy. You might not know this, but our Adventurers’ Guild controls the trade of magic ore, energy, and scrolls in this area. Not just housing, even if you need other resources in the future, we can provide you with 24-hour support.”
Nara didn’t feel bad offering these conditions at all. In fact, she thought they might not even be enough.
The relationship between a guild and an adventurer was always mutual. If the adventurer grows stronger, the guild benefits too.
It’s a win-win situation.
After all…
Who would be foolish enough to drive away their own strongest support?
