Chapter 46: That Update
Staying at home was actually pretty boring.
She was used to the daily chaos and playful arguments with Xiao Yuze, so now that the environment had changed, it felt a little strange.
Mu Cheng wasn’t much of a talker either. After dinner, he went back to his study to read, and Mu Le didn’t want to disturb her father, so she just rolled around on the bed out of boredom.
She had also messaged Xiao Yuze, but he seemed busy and didn’t reply for a long time.
Since she had taken a nap in the afternoon, Mu Le wasn’t sleepy at all, so she got up and went to her computer.
She played a few games, but after her team’s crystal kept “self-destructing,” she decisively tossed the mouse aside.
She hadn’t played games in a long time, and combined with her current body situation, she couldn’t find that old feeling at all.
Turning off the game, Mu Le irritably ran her hands through her hair. “I feel like I forgot something…”
She stared blankly at the screen for a while, then went to a major streaming site to catch up on anime, but still couldn’t remember what she had forgotten.
It wasn’t until she closed the computer, went back to bed, and picked up her phone to check if any of the novels she was following had updates recently…
“Huh?”
Her pale fingers froze in place just as they were about to tap on a novel-reading app.
Mu Le’s expression instantly became very animated.
She stayed frozen for a moment, then swallowed nervously. “Wait… how long has it been since I updated?”
Finally, she remembered what she hadn’t done.
There had been so much chaos lately, school starting again, hanging out with Bai Xin and the other girls, even going on a trip.
It seemed… it had been a long time since she updated.
No, actually, all the messy things of the past few months had distracted her so much that she nearly forgot she even needed to update.
Since she had run out of saved drafts last time, she’d been caught up in real-life matters, and all her time had been spent adapting to her new body. Then… she’d basically forgotten.
Playing wildly at the beach had made it even worse. She hadn’t touched her phone much at all.
Her lips twitched a few times as she logged into her author account on her phone. She opened her novel and checked… and, just as expected, the comments section was a disaster.
Comments like:
“Daily grave-digging…”
“Visiting the grave.”
“Has the author gone to have a baby? It’s been so long…”
“The truth above.”
“Shh, don’t make noise. The author is on my bed right now…”
“Okay, okay, usual no-update, everyone disperse.”
Looking at these bizarre comments, Mu Le couldn’t help but both laugh and cry.
Especially the comment about having a baby. Someone had even started a little thread under it, suggesting whose child it would be, how many kids, and even giving names.
All she could do was sigh and think…
Her imagination was huge, maybe she should leave the novel to the readers and just take care of the kids.
Of course, that was only a thought she muttered silently in her mind.
Since all her story outlines and notes were saved on the computer in her apartment, Mu Le opened the previous chapters to check her progress. It had been a while since she last wrote, so things felt a little fuzzy.
After confirming everything was fine, she opened her computer again, downloaded her usual writing tools and documents, and got to work… or rather, stayed up late to write.
Even though she hadn’t written in a while, her thoughts were surprisingly clear now. She had also gradually gotten used to her current body, so her writing speed was basically the same as before.
Well… she had never been especially fast at writing anyway.
After several hours, it wasn’t until Mu Cheng came by, noticing the light and nudging her a few times, that Mu Le finally let out a sigh of relief as she finished the last part of the chapter.
She stretched after sitting for hours, feeling her waist a little sore.
After massaging her waist and carefully checking for typos, she clicked to update her story on the author platform.
Because it had been a long time since her last update, she hadn’t saved any drafts, so she posted the entire chapter at once.
Mu Le also decided silently to save some drafts next time while her writing flow was good. No drafts made things really hard.
At the end of the chapter, in the “Author’s Note” section, she suddenly remembered the weird comments from earlier. On a whim, she added one line.
“Author here, just had a baby, now I’m back.”
After typing that, Mu Le coughed twice, blushed, and immediately closed all the pages.
After focusing for hours, once she relaxed, exhaustion hit her all at once.
The sky outside had grown dark. Mu Le yawned and flopped onto her bed.
Instinctively, she grabbed her phone and opened it, only to see that Xiao Yuze had replied to her message.
Feeling sleepy, Mu Le simply replied with “Good night,” then turned off her phone and the lights, ready to sleep.
She must have been really tired because she fell asleep almost immediately after laying her head on the pillow.
And then, Mu Le had a dream.
In her dream, she got married and had a bunch of children, and their names were exactly the same as the ones her readers had suggested!
And then…
Mu Le woke up screaming.
Sitting up in bed, she stared blankly ahead for a long moment.
Her hand went instinctively to her stomach, but she only touched a soft, normal lump.
In the pitch-black night, Mu Le wiped the cold sweat from her forehead, her lips twitching slightly.
“Th-That was such a scary dream…”
After that strange dream, Mu Le couldn’t fall back asleep.
Every time she closed her eyes, the image of herself happily calling out the children’s names kept flashing in her mind.
That scene made her shiver.
What the heck was that?! Some of those names weren’t even human names! And she was smiling so happily?!
Suddenly, Mu Le felt her emotions grow extremely complicated. And honestly, the thing that should be complained about the most… was the pregnancy part, right?
The result of her complicated feelings was that she couldn’t sleep at all.
So the next day, when Mu Cheng saw Mu Le with two dark circles under her eyes, even his normally stern expression softened slightly.
“What’s wrong?”
His voice seemed to snap Mu Le out of her daze. She turned her face to him and said in a hoarse voice.
“…Nothing, Dad. I was just… thinking about what to name my future kids.”
Mu Cheng: “……”
Seeing her clearly unwell, the corners of his mouth twitched.
“Lele, do you have a fever?”
“Mm… my head feels a little dizzy…”
Mu Cheng didn’t answer right away. He placed his hand on her forehead.
In his mind, if she didn’t have a fever, how could she say something like that?
And as it turned out, Mu Le’s body temperature was clearly off. It seemed she really did have a fever.
