Chapter 50: That Ending
Mu Le spent the last few days of the holiday at home.
Honestly, it didn’t really matter where she stayed. With her personality, holidays were mostly spent playing bad games, watching new anime, reading novels, and occasionally writing. There wasn’t much else to do.
All of these things could easily be done in her small room.
On top of that, the past few days had been rainy and gray, so even if she wanted to go out, it probably wouldn’t have been possible.
Compared to her, even during the holidays, Mu Cheng had plenty of things to take care of. Or rather, maybe it was exactly because it was the official National Day long holiday that certain tasks had to be done.
So although Mu Cheng didn’t fully agree with Mu Le’s habit of staying in her room all day except for meals, he didn’t say much about it.
He muttered a few words, which Mu Le nodded to on the surface, but she clearly didn’t take them seriously.
That was just her personality. After all, holidays were meant for relaxation, weren’t they?
The holiday passed quickly. Before she knew it, only the last two days remained.
Mu Le felt time had flown by, but she didn’t feel anything special. After all, she had never been unhappy with her previous life, whether there were holidays or not made little difference to her.
After breakfast that morning, Mu Cheng went out for some errands. Around noon, Mu Le received a call from Xiao Yuze.
The weather was getting colder, gray, and windy, so she put on a coat before going out.
Speaking of which, the wardrobe in her room had almost everything, from summer clothes to winter coats. Some were supposedly bought by Mu Cheng, but most were bought by her.
Of course, Mu Le had no memory of any of this.
After all, this was her first time back home since she changed into this form. Luckily, the room hadn’t changed much, so it still felt familiar.
These extra clothes were not something Mu Le found hard to accept.
Before leaving, she picked a few pieces to keep as backups. The weather was getting colder, and although the apartment had plenty of clothes, it’s always better to be prepared.
Just as Mu Le finished packing, the doorbell rang.
She opened the door, and as expected, it was Xiao Yuze dressed in black.
“Ready?” he asked.
At the same time, he lifted the few bags she had packed.
“Yeah, let’s go,” Mu Le nodded. She locked the door behind them and held Xiao Yuze’s hand as they headed downstairs.
“Uncle Mu isn’t home?” Xiao Yuze asked, slightly puzzled, as Mu Le pulled him forward.
“My dad went out this morning for some errands. He probably won’t be back until evening. I already sent him a message.”
Xiao Yuze didn’t say anything, letting Mu Le pull him into the elevator.
Once they got downstairs, the cold air was more noticeable. Fortunately, it was just a chill, and since they were both dressed warmly, it wasn’t a problem.
“How have you been the past few days?” Xiao Yuze asked with a smile as he started the car and looked at Mu Le sitting beside him.
Mu Le lazily yawned. This kind of gray, cloudy day always made people feel sleepy. For Xiao Yuze’s question, she curled her lips and said, “I feel fine. But the red envelope you sent me for Mid-Autumn was too small. And you haven’t given me one for National Day yet.”
“…Why do you need one for National Day too?” Xiao Yuze looked at the lazy, cat-like Mu Le beside him and said with a little helplessness.
“To celebrate the birthday of our motherland! Shouldn’t you give me a bigger one? Oh, and did you finish the mooncakes I gave you? If you didn’t, then I won’t give you any more gifts next time…”
Before Mu Le could finish, Xiao Yuze reached out and tapped her forehead.
Mu Le opened her eyes, rubbing her forehead with a dissatisfied expression.
But the man beside her just shook his head and ignored her.
The car drove on for a while, and because she was bored, Mu Le started looking around. Confused, she asked, “Where are we going?”
She was somewhat bad with directions, but she still remembered some buildings along the way.
The longer they drove, the more unfamiliar everything outside became. This clearly wasn’t the way home.
“To a gathering with a few friends I get along with. Uncle Mu isn’t home, and aren’t you a little hungry? After we fill your stomach, we’ll go back,” Xiao Yuze said.
When she heard the word “gathering,” Mu Le’s little face slightly frowned.
But she hadn’t eaten much in the morning, and even without exercise, just hearing Xiao Yuze’s words made her feel a little hungry.
So even though she didn’t like gatherings with strangers, she didn’t refuse.
Xiao Yuze looked at her with a faintly amused, slightly helpless expression. “You don’t like it?”
“…Yeah, I don’t know them.”
Eating with strangers was rarely enjoyable.
First, you had to worry about other people’s feelings. Being unfamiliar with them made it hard to relax, so it wasn’t fun.
Some topics might not involve you at all, which made things awkward. If no one spoke, it became even more uncomfortable.
So Mu Le really disliked eating and drinking with people she didn’t know. Eating should be enjoyable, not stressful.
Besides, these were people Xiao Yuze knew, not her. The topics of conversation would have nothing to do with her.
But if she just stayed silent, it might seem rude.
So her frown was perfectly normal. She wasn’t one of those skilled social butterflies who could charm everyone on a first meeting. She really had no idea what to do in such situations.
“…Then I’ll reorder your food. You can eat here while I’m gone, okay?” Xiao Yuze raised an eyebrow, seeming to understand her worry.
Mu Le thought for a moment. Eating alone did seem a little better than sitting with a whole table of strangers.
“Yeah, that sounds okay. But be quick, and no drinking.”
“Don’t worry. I won’t let you wait long. I’m just going for a short visit, it’s been a while since I last saw them anyway.”
Xiao Yuze smiled. If he didn’t have a good relationship with those friends, he wouldn’t have agreed.
Of course, a gathering wasn’t just for eating. There would probably be other activities afterward. But for Mu Le, he clearly wouldn’t participate.
Originally, he had considered bringing her for a slightly flirtatious reason, but since Mu Le clearly didn’t like it, he wouldn’t force her.
If she didn’t want to go, she didn’t have to. It was just a little unfortunate.
After Xiao Yuze’s reply, Mu Le had no objections.
It was just a gathering, nothing serious. She had wanted to eat with him, but she wasn’t the type to make a fuss.
