[Vol. 8] Chapter 335: Power Revealed
The priestess quietly thought about the situation, faintly feeling that it smelled of trouble.
Whether the so-called Primordial Light truly existed or not, and no matter how many secrets were hidden in the creation of the world, one thing was certain, the world now ran according to the rules set by that Primordial Light.
This puppet, from head to toe, was full of man-made signs. Though it looked crude, since it acted as an enforcer of the world’s rules, its creator was almost certainly the one known as the Primordial Light. Probably only that being had the right to be actively protected by such a construct. If that was true, didn’t that mean things were once again tied back to Violet herself?
Impossible. Absolutely impossible!
Just as Violet was caught between thoughts, not knowing how to handle this matter, a sudden message came into her mind from afar.
[Sister, it’s Light. Can you hear me?]
The girl froze for a moment, then quickly realized and replied,
[I’m here. What happened?]
This little dragon girl, who had been nurtured by both Violet and Xiao Guang, was like half a child to them. Because of that, she shared a bond similar to a contract with the priestess. Even in a place like the [Iron-Blood Arena], they could still communicate if they wished.
But that child, though young, was very mature and independent. She rarely ever sent messages unless it was absolutely necessary. Normally, she could manage the Dragon Mountains alone without issue, even finding time to stroll around during her free moments.
So if she sent a message now, it meant something serious had happened, either a huge problem she couldn’t solve on her own, or an urgent matter that had to be told to Violet.
What could be so serious that it even disturbed the little Dragon God? The only possibility Violet could think of was the migration of the dragons and mythical races under Cielru’s command. But they had just set out, and no matter how fast they flew, it was impossible for them to have reached the Dragon Mountains so soon. That meant it had to be some other unexpected event.
Sure enough, Light’s voice came again through their mental link.
[That snake, the thing called the [Ring of Heaven and Earth], has already started affecting this world. It must be destroyed quickly. Sister, how far has your side progressed?]
[Hm? It’s still causing effects? That’s impossible.]
Violet looked ahead in surprise at the fierce fight between the Serpent and the mysterious being. Although there had been some accidents, Leonis had only been pulled into the arena as a spirit form representing his main will. His real body outside should no longer be moving without his control. So why…
Just as she was still puzzled and about to shift part of her awareness to check outside, Light, dependable as ever, gave the explanation first.
[It’s the World Sustainers. They can also draw on the Serpent’s power to some extent. Now they’re using the fully opened ruins as a gateway for a large-scale invasion.]
[A huge number of the World Sustainers’ servants are pouring into this world. The Dragon Mountains are one of the targets being attacked. I can even sense at least four or more powerful presences at that level approaching. They’ve activated the [Ring of Heaven and Earth] to spin faster, making the passageway grow wider. Sister, we need to find a way to stop this before their Lords themselves descend through it.]
[Otherwise, once those beings arrive at the Origin Realm and fight us directly on this soil, even if victory or defeat is uncertain, the destruction caused will be beyond imagination.]
There was actually such a situation?
Violet frowned slightly, faintly realizing something.
[How are things on your side, do you need help?]
[For now there’s no big problem. The dragonkin are not weak, they just never had strong teachers to guide them. With me here holding the line, it won’t collapse in the short term. But if the battlefield keeps spreading, other areas might fall first.]
“I see… so this is the real reason why the World Sustainers helped Leonis inherit the name of the Serpent…”
The girl spoke softly to herself, lost in thought.
Those beings knew very well that the world order and environment were no longer the same as before. The world’s rules were solid and unshakable, and the Primordial Light would never allow the Serpent to act recklessly.
Even god-level beings of the Origin Realm, like herself, Sethlin, and Xiao Guang, would surely step in to stop any collapse of the rules that could cause disaster for all living beings. With so much resistance, trying to directly rebuild the [Ring of Heaven and Earth] was almost impossible.
So from the very start, the World Sustainers never planned to rely on Leonis to finish the task. Their goal was to push him to the front stage, making him draw away most of the attention, especially from things like this mysterious puppet, so that they could carry out their real plan in secret.
On the other hand, even if he couldn’t completely rebuild the [Ring of Heaven and Earth], the emperor’s actions still shook the existing rules. That alone was not meaningless.
Back when [White] disguised herself as her daughter Cielru and met with the priestess, she had already said the space where the Serpent’s remains were buried, the upside-down world floating above, was a land separated and cut off by the Primordial Light to seal away forbidden things.
That place hid great mysteries. It also stood apart from the normal world, making it one of the best gateways to connect the Origin Realm with other worlds. In fact, it was one of the few ways outsiders could bypass the world’s barrier.
Now, Leonis had gone through endless trouble to open it in order to gain the Serpent’s power. By shaking the old order with the [Ring of Heaven and Earth], he had also created the perfect chance for the World Sustainers to invade on a large scale.
As for Leonis himself, whether he failed or succeeded didn’t really matter much to the greater plan. To put it harshly, those so-called Lords probably didn’t even want him to succeed too easily.
After all, Leonis Frederick was tied to the World Sustainers only by mutual benefit. He had no real belief in their ideals. As a ruler with ambition and cunning, he would never simply follow their orders. If a new world were really built with him at the core of the [Ring of Heaven and Earth], who would actually be in charge? That question had no clear answer.
So, instead of fully supporting him, it was better to pretend to back him while letting him clash with powerful common enemies. The World Sustainers only needed to give him some secret support, and in doing so, they could achieve three goals at once.
What a clever scheme…
Even though Leonis himself was shrewd and calculating, and surely saw through some of their tricks, he had no choice. Both he and the Austre Empire were in desperate need of a way to break their crisis. As a mere mortal, the number of beings who could offer him such a chance was very limited. So all he could do was gamble and fight with everything he had.
Because of this, the situation was indeed moving step by step just as the World Sustainers had planned. After gaining the Serpent’s power, Leonis forced back the Twilight Council, lured out the hidden guardians of the rules, and even drew the attention of Violet herself, almost completely.
There might be many unpredictable twists, but most of it was probably still within the World Sustainers’ expectations. That group… must have a very talented strategist.
Could it be the one [White] mentioned, the so-called [Lord of the Void]? If I remember right, it was nothing more than a giant jellyfish…
The girl let out a small sigh.
“Well then… I should step in and handle things. I can’t just let them run wild like this. This problem has already gone far beyond what most factions could ever hope to deal with.”
