[Vol. 8] Chapter 336: The Great Invasion
Since it looked like there would be no winner anytime soon, the priestess stopped paying attention to the two mighty beings who were still fighting each other like children. With just a thought, the scene before her quietly shifted, pulling her out of the [Iron-Blood Arena] and back to the outside world.
In the past, once the [Iron-Blood Arena] was opened, even she as the master could not leave until the duel ended in life or death. But things were different now. Her abilities had grown and evolved with her experience. By this point, she could even interfere to some extent with this skill, which was already close to the level of an artifact.
For example, even though she still could not freely go in and out as she wished, there were workarounds. As long as she prepared anchors filled with divine thought in the real world, Violet could switch between both sides at any time. The effect was a little weaker than using her true body, but still more than enough for most situations.
This was what people called Divine Descent.
When she opened her eyes again, the shadow of a giant serpent still loomed high in the sky. The daylight sun was completely blocked, and the twilight that followed cast the world in heavy gloom. Since both the mythical beings and the Twilight Council had retreated, very few figures still remained above the imperial capital.
Violet looked around and found herself standing on the top of the palace building known as the Star-Gazing Tower. Close by, two girls with clear dragon features were staring at her in surprise.
Soon, the tall, golden-haired girl, her eyes burning with golden flames, spoke hesitantly, as if realizing something.
“...Master?”
“Yes, it’s me.”
Hearing this, the white-haired dragon girl beside her froze for a moment. Her expression shifted at once, and she looked at the priestess with great surprise.
“So this is the legendary Divine Descent technique? No wonder, just a moment ago you were only a somewhat special mortal, yet in an instant you now release such a powerful aura. The ways of gods are truly mysterious and unfathomable...”
Violet wasn’t surprised by their different reactions. She only gave a small nod as a greeting. After all, she couldn’t just create a body from thin air. The body she was using now actually belonged to a princess of the Mingjiao tribe.
That was why she had sent Nitila away before her fight with White—it was a hidden backup plan.
Before entering the palace, she had discussed with the Daughter of Truth. Since Violet had once used Forbidden Words to help heal her, she and Nitila had already formed a strong bond at the level of cause and effect. That made Nitila one of the most suitable vessels for Violet’s Divine Descent.
So as long as Nitila could follow the trail and find where the captives were truly being held, she alone would be enough to solve most of the problems. Once that task was done, the princess had followed Violet’s remote guidance and made her way to the Star-Gazing Tower to meet Xiao Guang and the others, just in time to be useful now.
Seeing her dragon girl’s eyes dodge slightly, Violet nodded. She didn’t rush to settle accounts with her. Instead, she went straight to the point.
“We can talk about unnecessary things later. The important matter comes first. How is the situation now?”
Knowing Violet’s personality better than anyone, the dragon girl felt relieved by her attitude. She quickly nodded, just like a pecking chick.
“Ever since you, Master, went inside with those two, we’ve been keeping watch on the Serpent. It hasn’t made any new moves, but strange things keep flying out from that floating world in the sky, spreading all across the world. There are so many of them that it’s impossible to count.”
“However, maybe because the emperor of this country has some kind of agreement with the World Sustainers, or maybe because they are wary of us, those things haven’t moved toward this place. According to the information passed on through Light and that old, cough, I mean, Sethlin, one group of World Sustainers under a Lord has gone to the Dragon Mountains, and another has gone to the Azure Sky Kingdom.”
“Judging from their auras, at least two more groups have also started invading, but where exactly they went is still unknown.”
“Hmm… as expected, everything is linked together. This time, it won’t just be a small skirmish like before.”
Violet lowered her head in thought, her expression turning serious.
By forcefully tearing open a gap in the world’s barrier and using the ruined world as a channel, the World Sustainers could move in far greater forces than ever before. Even if the Lord-level beings hadn’t descended yet, no single nation in the world could withstand such power on their own.
It must be remembered that the so-called Demon Chaos of the Ancient Spirit Realm was, in truth, an invasion war led by one of the World Sustainer Lords, Taotie, the Lord of Destruction. Even with the Ancient Spirit Realm at its peak a thousand years ago, it nearly lost all of its inheritance. It was only with her, an outsider, stepping in to help that the crisis was barely resolved.
But now, the power of the Origin Realm was badly weakened, much worse than even the Ancient Spirit Realm after its great war. Yet the enemies they faced this time were more than four times as many.
Out of the four Lords, one was already dealing with the little Dragon God, another targeting the Goddess of Life. Clearly, they understood the situation here completely and had divided the roles in advance. So the goals of the remaining two Sustainer clans were not hard to guess.
Violet took a deep breath, quickly weighing the strengths and weaknesses of all sides, then turned to the White Dragon Queen, who was staring at her curiously. Without being polite, she asked directly.
“Miss Cielru, can you still contact your tribe?”
“Of course. Our tribe has its own ways of sending messages. There are channels for the White Dragons, for the Dragon clans as a whole, and even private ones for the Dragon Kings. You want me to…?”
“So you basically have group chats… never mind. Who you contact is up to you. Back to the point, I heard that the mythical races led by the Dragons are moving toward the Dragon Mountains. I want you to send some of your fastest and most reliable people further west, across the buffer zone, to the Holy Empire’s border, to a fortress called the Purple Mist City.”
“The Holy Empire…”
Hearing it was serious business, Cielru quickly put on a more formal, thoughtful expression.
“You believe that place will also become a target of the invasion, and you want us to protect the people there?”
Violet nodded, then quickly shook her head.
“The Holy Empire is certainly one of the World Sustainers’ targets, and will likely become their main focus at first. But they don’t need help right now, there are a lot of strong people there. The ones I want the mythical races to support are the Human United Kingdom further to the west.”
“Human?”
