Chapter 270: A Happy Mother
Su Peng’s ability to do housework was probably even worse than her little sister’s. Her sister at least washed dishes and picked vegetables from a young age. But Su Peng came from a rich family, he never had to do these things.
By the time An Han finished getting ready and came downstairs, Su Peng had already been sent to help her sister with homework.
Her mother heard her footsteps, turned around, and waved her over.
“Mom, what is it?”
An Han walked to her side, took the bowl from her mother’s hand, and began stirring the eggs with chopsticks. She hadn’t cooked much before, but helping out was fine.
“He’s so clumsy. After you two get married, won’t all the housework fall on you?” Her mother looked very worried, though her hands kept working.
An Han muttered in protest, “Marriage is still far away…”
“Besides, Su Peng’s family has several aunties working for them. One cooks, one cleans, and there’s even one who walks the dog.”
Her mother paused for a moment, her own way of thinking felt too small. If that was the case, An Han wouldn’t lose out at all by marrying him.
After spending time together these past two days, Su Peng’s personality seemed pretty good. Even when her mother purposely made things difficult, he didn’t get angry. He might be flattering and eager to please, but he didn’t seem unreliable or annoying.
“No wonder he doesn’t know how to pick vegetables. I bet he can’t cook at all. If she marries him, won’t she become a free maid?”
Her father snorted from the dining table without moving an inch.
An Han looked back at him, feeling he didn’t really have the right to say that. Her mother had been cooking for so long and he wasn’t helping at all, just scrolling on his phone or shaking his leg impatiently.
But she understood, he worked hard all year. Coming home and not wanting to do chores was normal…
“Maybe she’ll be the one enjoying life instead?” Her mother retorted.
“I’m not planning to get married that early…” An Han argued softly, but both parents completely ignored her.
“Our family is so different from his. If you marry into that family, they’ll bully you,” Her father said, turning away. “Not a good match at all.”
Her mother rolled her eyes at him, poured the beaten eggs into the pan, and called loudly, “Lunch is ready! Everyone come!”
“Coming! Coming!” Her little sister rushed over as if she would fall into the hell of homework if she turned back.
An Han sighed and helped her mother serve the dishes.
Looks like Su Peng’s progress with her mother was already very good. Her mother’s affection for him was probably over thirty points by now.
But her father… he was still picking bones out of the eggs. His affection score was probably a negative number.
Because her father and Su Peng didn’t get along, lunch felt stiff and awkward. Su Peng tried his best to find topics to talk about, hoping to blend into the family. But her father tried equally hard to ruin the mood. Back and forth they went, ending in a draw.
An Han couldn’t take sides, so she just enjoyed the show. It somehow made her appetite better, and she ended up eating two full bowls of rice.
After lunch, the whole family was going to her grandfather’s house to pay New Year visits.
Even for this, Su Peng wanted to join in.
“Auntie, I can drive you all there.”
Her mother looked at him, saw how sincere he looked, and after hesitating, she nodded.
“I’ll take the electric scooter,” Her father said angrily as he pushed the scooter out the door.
He couldn’t understand what was happening! Only one day had passed, and it felt like the whole family had betrayed him!
They were supposed to stay united, but in the end, only he was still resisting.
But… that brat really did seem good in all ways…
………………………………
With her mother guiding him, Su Peng parked the car at the gate of her grandfather’s house.
Some relatives were already sitting at the door eating sunflower seeds and chatting. When they saw the car stop, they paused their conversation and looked toward the car with curiosity.
Her mother carried a small purse, wore her favorite wide-brimmed hat, and a lady-like long dress. She opened the door gracefully and smiled at her sisters.
She was about to walk over and talk when her eldest aunt asked in surprise.
“Did your family get rich or something?”
“Of course not.”
Her mother turned around and looked at An Han and her little sister getting out of the car one after another. Then she looked again at the obvious blue-and-white BMW logo, and finally understood.
This car cost several hundred thousand. It wasn’t luxurious, but a normal family had many expenses. They wouldn’t put all their money into a car that drops in value so fast.
Seeing the surprised and jealous looks in her sisters’ eyes, her mother suddenly felt a strange sense of satisfaction.
Her smile became a bit fake as she covered her mouth and said in an exaggerated way, “It’s just a car, not worth much~”
Leaning on the driver’s window, An Han listened to her mother’s proud tone and said helplessly to Su Peng, “See? She really likes to show off~”
“Everyone’s like that.” Su Peng smiled. “If I knew, I would’ve brought my dad’s sports car.”
“You even have a sports car...” An Han muttered sourly, then looked toward the end of the road. “Why isn’t my dad here yet?”
They only washed a few dishes before coming out, but her father had left much earlier. Even though the scooter was slower, the distance was short, he should’ve arrived already.
And they didn’t see him anywhere on the way.
Did he… run away?
Her little sister had already rushed into the house, disappearing without a trace. But her loud voice could still be heard from outside. “Grandpa! Grandpa! Can we go to the field to roast sweet potatoes?”
No one knew why a little girl was so obsessed with digging and roasting sweet potatoes.
An Han quickly shouted, “Remember to roast one for me too!”
Then she turned to Su Peng and asked, “You’re not planning to stay here and wait, right? You’ll have to wait until after dinner to go back.”
“Then I’ll go to the hotel and catch up on sleep… I’ll leave the car key with you. I’ll take a taxi back.”
“This place is far from the main road. You’ll probably have to walk back.”
Almost no private tricycles passed by her grandpa’s house. If he wanted to catch a taxi, he’d have to walk a kilometer or two.
“That’s fine. Let your mom show off properly.” Su Peng grinned, got out of the car, and handed her the key. “Don’t lose my car.”
“How could I?”
In her family, only her father could drive. As long as she didn’t lend the keys to other relatives, the car wouldn’t get lost.
And as for her father, with his personality, he would never touch Su Peng’s car. He would probably look down on it.
Watching Su Peng leave, An Han finally walked toward her mother.
Before she even got close, she heard her mother happily talking.
“Yes, that young man is my future son-in-law~”
“Handsome, right? And he’s very respectful. He barely matches my An Han~”
“He’s not that rich. Just a villa downtown and a few housekeepers at home~”
“Last time he came in a Toyota Crown, and who knew this time he’d bring a BMW~”
The rising tone in every sentence showed just how happy her mother was.
How did he suddenly become her “future son-in-law”?!
And her mother being so braggy… really ruined her image…
An Han sighed inside and walked forward to ask, “Mom, why hasn’t Dad arrived yet?”
Her mother took a moment to answer her own daughter.
“He’s probably scared your grandpa will break his legs and throw him out.”
“…What???”
