Chapter 271: Father and Grandfather
So it meant… just like her father didn’t like Su Peng, her grandfather also didn’t like her father?
Thinking back carefully, every time her father came back from overseas and visited her grandfather to give New Year greetings, he always looked very honest and quiet. He didn’t dare to talk much.
During the visit, he was either completely unnoticed, or he kept trying to do chores, eager to show himself.
But since she didn’t know much about her father before, An Han had never thought about it this way…
But her parents had been married for more than twenty years. How much must her grandfather dislike her father for their relationship to still not improve after so long?
An Han walked into the house and looked around the living room. She saw several cousins, including her cousin Wu Hao, whom she was familiar with.
With Wu Hao there, she relaxed. As long as he was around, relatives usually wouldn’t focus their conversation on her.
But facing these cousins, who were almost the same age as her, for the first time as a girl, she still felt uncomfortable.
She quickly found a corner to lean against, playing on her phone while trying to lower her presence.
Sadly, as soon as she entered, several male cousins were already staring at her.
They whispered among themselves. Some who didn’t know recent news were guessing who this pretty girl was, a relative or maybe a neighbor’s daughter.
Ever since she wore a cheongsam at the anime convention, An Han had slowly gotten used to being the center of attention wherever she went. But these were childhood relatives, so her cheeks turned red with embarrassment.
Feeling uneasy, she pressed her legs together and lowered her head. She wanted to ignore their gazes, but with her sensitivity, she could clearly feel each stare, even the emotion in them.
Most were curious.
A few were… a bit too warm.
And damn, some wouldn’t stop staring at her chest!
She secretly looked up and found that the one staring was a female cousin.
Oh. Never mind then.
This cousin was already seventeen but flatter than her little sister.
She looked again, confirming the cousin still hadn’t developed after a year.
With an A-cup like that, no wonder her cousin’s eyes were burning holes in her chest…
While she endured her cousins’ stares, the sound of an electric scooter suddenly came from outside.
An Han leaned forward to look through the door and saw her father parking his scooter. He opened the seat compartment and took out several bottles of alcohol.
So… he bought a gift for her grandfather?
She looked at his serious, tense expression, then at the bottles in his hands.
Moutai, red wine, even the wine Su Peng gave him was now being brought to Grandfather…
“Where’s your grandpa?” Her father walked into the house holding the alcohol. He glanced around the living room and finally relaxed a little.
“In the backyard playing with little sister, I think?”
An Han pushed herself off the wall and followed him, ready to watch the show.
Her curiosity was too strong, she hurried to her father’s side and whispered, “Dad, you’re giving someone else’s gift away?”
No wonder her father rarely drank. But he really had been happy when he saw Su Peng’s gifts.
“This is called being filial! Of course good things should be given to your grandpa.” Her father said with a stiff face.
“Oh~”
An Han almost laughed out loud.
They walked past the hallway and into the kitchen. The door leading to the backyard was open. But when her father reached the door, he stopped suddenly and turned to An Han.
“Go check if your grandpa is in a good mood first.”
“…Is Grandpa really that scary?”
Her grandfather was always very kind.
Mumbling, she walked into the backyard. and immediately saw her grandfather playing badminton with her little sister, using the clothes-drying rack as a net.
Her grandpa was already around seventy, but when he moved, he was even fiercer than young people. Each powerful smash he hit made her little sister lose completely, she couldn’t defend at all.
An Han turned her head toward the house and shouted, “Dad! Grandpa is in a good mood. He’s beating an amateur!”
“What amateur?” Her father didn’t understand her slang, but he still carried the alcohol and walked into the yard.
The moment he saw her grandfather, his stiff and serious face suddenly changed. His straight back seemed to bend a little, and he took quick, tiny steps, almost trotting over.
“Dad! Look what good things I brought you!”
His expression and tone were even more flattering than Su Peng trying to please Mom.
At that moment, the serious and authoritative image of her father completely collapsed in An Han’s heart.
Her grandpa hit another smash, then turned to look at her father’s eager face. He glanced at the expensive alcohol in her father’s hands and said with a blank face.
“Go away, don’t get in the way.”
“Dad, this is Moutai! You can’t even get this normally.”
“And this red wine is from Château Latour in France. It costs several thousand. I went far to buy it for you. You must drink two glasses at dinner.”
The tone, the scene, An Han felt she had seen it somewhere before. It was almost exactly what Su Peng looked like yesterday.
She watched from a distance and almost burst out laughing.
A moment later, her father was shooed away and walked toward An Han. His expression looked much lighter. “Not bad, your grandpa really is in a pretty good mood.”
“Dad, what did you do to Grandpa? Why does he dislike you so much?”
“How would I know? He just looks down on me in every way.”
Her father spoke angrily as he walked past her.
“Dad, maybe the reason you don’t like Su Peng is the same reason Grandpa doesn’t like you?” An Han quickly followed behind him.
“How am I the same as that brat?”
Her father entered the kitchen, hid the alcohol in the cupboard so the kids wouldn’t knock it over, then opened the fridge. He rubbed his chin as he looked at the ingredients inside.
“I know how to cook. Does he? He can’t even wash a bowl or crack an egg! How is he like me?”
After planning out the dinner in his head, he stretched his arms and asked, “Help me in the kitchen?”
“You don’t even cook at home… And it’s only one o’clock. Why start now?”
“There will be lots of people tonight. We need to make a big meal.”
“You just want to please Grandpa.”
Her father’s face immediately stiffened, and he argued angrily. “What do you mean please? This is being filial! Kids don’t understand anything!”
An Han rolled her eyes.
She strongly suspected that the pressure her grandpa put on her father was now being passed down to Su Peng.
Her father was venting his old frustration on him, which was why he found everything about Su Peng annoying.
The warrior becomes the dragon in the end, huh? Two people from the same root, why fight each other so hard~
Since she had nothing to do and didn’t want to go back to the living room to be stared at by her cousins, she agreed to help her father cook.
Not long after, her grandpa walked into the house.
A moment ago, her father had been lazy, handing some of the prep work to An Han. But as soon as her grandpa appeared, her father suddenly became energetic again. His chopping became impressively fast.
“An Han, I’m taking your little sister to the fields to roast sweet potatoes. Do you want to come?”
“Coming!”
