Volume 1 Chapter 63: A Lonely Past
Bai Muxue’s movements were so fast and hidden that even the few customers in the shop did not notice anything. She tightly held the work ID card in her hand, politely smiled at the girl, then turned and left. Her steps were light and quick.
The girl did not notice Bai Muxue’s small action at all. Her attention was completely focused on that elegant, almost dazzling smile. Only after Bai Muxue’s figure slowly disappeared into the crowd did she shake her head and return to her work.
“Hm, this should be about enough…”
Walking on the street with two cups of milk tea, Bai Muxue sorted through the information she had just obtained in her mind.
She should be able to act tonight.
Bai Muxue blinked and a sly smile appeared on her lips.
Calculating the time… Xiyao should already be there too?
……………………………
“I’m already at the square. Where are you, Xiao Xue?”
Qin Xiyao had already been waiting at the square for a while.
But she did not stand near the most obvious fountain in the center. Instead, she stayed in a corner at the edge, as if trying to hide herself in the crowd.
However, her looks and presence were too eye-catching. No matter how she tried to hide, people still noticed her.
But right now, Qin Xiyao clearly did not care about that. She was looking down at her phone, while her other hand nervously played with a strand of hair near her ear.
“Has Xiao Xue arrived yet? Or is she still dealing with something?”
Still not getting a reply from Bai Muxue, Qin Xiyao resisted the urge to call her and let out a soft sigh.
Sigh… Xiao Xue is the type who is always around normally, but when something really happens, she suddenly becomes impossible to find…
Already used to Bai Muxue’s personality, Qin Xiyao subconsciously tried to comfort herself in her mind.
Even though she put her phone down and kept calming herself, her bright black eyes still kept scanning the crowd from time to time. A hint of worry would occasionally appear on her face.
Time slowly passed, but she still could not find that familiar figure in the crowd.
Could it be that Xiao Xue already arrived and is waiting somewhere else in the square, so I just didn’t see her?
“That… seems unlikely, right?”
If Xiao Xue were really already here, Qin Xiyao did not believe she would not be able to notice her.
Or did Xiao Xue go straight to the concert venue? So that’s why she’s not here?
But even then, she should at least send a message…
With many thoughts in her mind, Qin Xiyao bit her lip. Feeling bored and restless, she finally took out a small mirror from her bag to check if her carefully done makeup had been ruined by sweat.
In the mirror, the girl’s long black hair was slightly tied up. A carefully made bow tied with a white ribbon fell gently down the back of her soft white neck. With her delicate and elegant features, she could easily capture anyone’s attention.
Her neat beige dress reached just above her knees, showing a bit of her pale calves and a pair of small, delicate feet in white canvas shoes.
Her whole presence carried a soft, gentle elegance, and every small movement showed a natural, graceful charm unique to a young girl.
This outfit and makeup were carefully prepared by Qin Xiyao. She even spent most of last night watching makeup tutorials. Her goal was to highlight her looks and figure as much as possible, but at the same time not dress too heavily, so that Bai Muxue would not feel any pressure when they went out together.
“Hm… it should be fine, right?”
Today, the sun was surprisingly not too harsh. A light breeze gently brushed her face, lifting a strand of hair from her forehead.
Qin Xiyao carefully looked at herself in the mirror and nodded in satisfaction. She was already looking forward to Bai Muxue’s reaction when she saw her!
“Okay, first I’ll have a meal with Xiao Xue, then go watch that performance she wants to see… and at night we can go shopping for clothes and accessories!”
Yes! What a perfect plan! Almost flawless!
After going over her carefully planned schedule in her mind, she felt her happiness slowly fill her heart. Even the long wait did not feel as hard anymore.
Qin Xiyao grew up in a broken family. Her parents divorced when she was young, and her mother placed very high expectations on her. Most of her free time was filled with various lessons and arrangements her mother made.
Because of this, she had almost no time to interact with classmates, let alone go out and have fun with them.
Her mother cared for her deeply, but that care also became an invisible wall that separated her from other students. In the eyes of others, Qin Xiyao looked like a “princess” who was out of reach, someone too perfect and distant, so people naturally kept their distance from her.
This was why she became quiet and withdrawn in the past, spending most of her time reading books alone with no friends.
Even after she entered high school and her mother became busier, giving her more free time, nothing really changed.
She tried hard to fit in with her classmates, but after years of being alone, it was still difficult for her to truly connect with other girls.
Even though she seemed popular in class, once school was over, she would become alone again.
The “princess” was still the same princess. Just that instead of being distant on purpose, she now wore polite smiles.
This situation only changed at a normal banquet, when a girl named Bai Muxue reached out her hand to her.
While spending time with Bai Muxue, Qin Xiyao could vaguely feel something. Although Bai Muxue had many friends around her, there was still a kind of… hard-to-describe loneliness inside her.
And even so, she still chose to reach out to Qin Xiyao, bringing a little light into her closed-off heart.
After that, Qin Xiyao suddenly felt that her boring daily life became interesting… because she was no longer alone.
This strong feeling slowly grew and turned into a deep attachment.
Because of this, after Bai Muxue had deliberately kept some distance from her recently, Qin Xiyao now treasured this chance to spend time together even more.
“It should be a very unforgettable day… right?”
A hopeful smile slowly appeared on her face as she began imagining how the day and night would go.
“Eh? Eh?! You mean the equipment tuning has a problem? We’re going on stage soon, what are those people doing?!”
“Tch, didn’t I tell them to check everything in advance?!”
“Ahhh so annoying! Don’t panic, I’m on my way! I just got stuck in traffic!”
A slightly anxious, clear voice reached Qin Xiyao’s ears, pulling her out of her thoughts. She instinctively turned toward the sound.
She saw a tall girl with shoulder-length hair, a deep blue streak covering her right eye, carrying a guitar on her back, rushing past her in a hurry.
“Eh…?”
Qin Xiyao’s heart moved slightly, but before she could react, the girl’s figure was swallowed by the crowd in the next second and disappeared completely.
