Volume 1 Chapter 68: A Fated Encounter
On this summer afternoon, the sunlight was not too strong. It decorated the sky with a soft golden glow, and a gentle breeze brushed across their faces. The air felt slightly restless for no clear reason. Around them, the girls were chatting loudly, and the music playing from the stage to warm up the crowd flowed into their ears.
Bai Muxue, feeling something in her heart, subconsciously closed her eyes and quietly enjoyed this special kind of noise.
Qin Xiyao was sitting right beside her, her beautiful eyes shining with curiosity.
She was a careful and sensitive girl who tended to overthink things. When she saw Bai Muxue suddenly close her eyes, she also felt something shift in her heart, as if she could sense a subtle change in Bai Muxue’s mood.
She didn’t know what Xiao Xue was thinking, but her instincts told her not to interrupt. It would be enough just to quietly stay by her side like this.
“Hey, I just checked. This group doesn’t seem to have many fans online, but now that I see the live crowd, it actually feels really popular.”
“You don’t get it. Even though they’re not very famous, their fans are super loyal. They’ve been following them for a long time! This is even their first live show in Wangdu!”
“And every member is amazing! Especially the main singer, she’s so pretty and has such strong stage presence. She could totally be an idol!”
“Her eyes are really beautiful too. It feels like your heart gets grabbed just by looking at her!”
Excited voices of the girls around them could be heard from time to time.
But Qin Xiyao didn’t really pay attention to them. Instead, while the girl beside her had her eyes closed as if lost in thought, she secretly looked at her from the corner of her eye.
Seeing that Bai Muxue didn’t react, Qin Xiyao became a little bolder. Her gentle gaze stayed on Bai Muxue’s side profile.
Long black hair reaching her waist, a small and delicate body, skin as white as snow, and doll-like cute facial features. Just one look was enough to make people feel a sense of affection and care.
I feel like I could just… keep looking at her like this forever.
Qin Xiyao stared a little blankly, completely lost in thought as she looked at Bai Muxue.
Before she could look away, Bai Muxue suddenly opened her eyes. A faint smile appeared on her lips.
“Hmm, this is actually pretty interesting…”
Bai Muxue’s soft voice drifted into Qin Xiyao’s ears. When Qin Xiyao saw that slightly mischievous smile, her heart trembled a little.
Feeling Bai Muxue’s suddenly happy mood, Qin Xiyao couldn’t help but ask, “Did Xiao Xue think of something happy?”
“Huh? No.”
Bai Muxue came back to her senses and gently shook her head. Then she blinked playfully at Qin Xiyao.
“I just feel… I’m really happy to be here watching this show with you, Xiyao.”
“Eh…!”
Hearing that, Qin Xiyao froze for a moment. The teasing words she had been ready to say completely disappeared, and a light blush appeared on her cheeks.
She really had no resistance to words like this at all.
But even though she was already filled with uncontrollable joy inside, she still tried to act calm and gently said, a little shyly, “R-really?”
“Of course,” Bai Muxue nodded seriously. Her young face showed a very serious expression. “Didn’t I say it just now? I asked you out because I wanted you to be happier, Xiyao.”
“Xiao Xue…”
Qin Xiyao opened her mouth slightly. A touch of emotion flashed in her clear eyes. Then she quickly came back to herself, lightly tapped the girl with her hand, and huffed,
“Hmph, I knew you were just using nice words to fool me… You were clearly thinking about something else just now. Don’t think I can’t tell.”
Even though she said that, deep inside she actually wished she could hear more of those words… It’s still better than nothing.
“Alright, alright,” Bai Muxue said with a helpless smile. She turned her gaze back to the stage with the flashing lights. “I was just thinking… even though the show isn’t big, everyone seems really serious about it. It’s kind of interesting.”
Heh, she could even feel a strange familiar magic-like energy… wasn’t that interesting?
“Eh? Xiao Xue thinks so too?”
Qin Xiyao blinked in surprise, then didn’t say much more. She followed Bai Muxue’s gaze and looked toward the stage as well.
At the center of the stage stood a lonely microphone, as if waiting for the soul that would wake it up with its voice. The other instruments were neatly placed in their spots, quietly waiting for the show to begin.
She seemed to have heard earlier from the girls beside her that the band’s lead singer was someone with strong stage presence. What kind of person would that be…?
Qin Xiyao noticed clearly that many of the audience members were wearing matching fan shirts and holding glow sticks of the same color. They sat together in an organized way. Unlike her and Bai Muxue, who were just here to watch for fun, these people were clearly prepared fans.
Just like Bai Muxue, Qin Xiyao didn’t know much about rock music. But maybe because of the atmosphere and the carefully prepared stage, her curiosity was slowly being awakened.
What kind of person is the lead singer? What kind of charm does she have, that so many people would spend money to gather around such a small stage and wait so eagerly for her?
As the performance time got closer, the excited talking of the crowd slowly turned into expectant silence. Everyone looked toward the center of the stage, waiting for the light that would announce the start of the show.
They didn’t have to wait long. As the warm-up music slowly faded away, the members of the band walked onto the stage one by one.
“Hello, everyone—!”
With the energetic greeting from the girls who had finished gathering, the audience responded by raising their glow sticks and signs. The whole stage was instantly filled with energy. The loud cheering felt like it could almost lift the roof off the stage.
But Bai Muxue did not look at the other band members for long. Her eyes were fixed directly on the most eye-catching one, the girl standing at center stage, holding a guitar.
The girl had shoulder-length black hair. A striking blue streak of color fell down, slightly covering her clear right eye that looked like a starry sky.
She wore a simple black jacket, and her long legs were wrapped in black stockings. The dark tones of her outfit, combined with her cold and beautiful face, created a strong and striking presence that made it hard to look away.
Below her swan-like neck was a tall and slim body… a perfect model-like figure.
Looking at the confident smile on the girl’s face, Bai Muxue suddenly felt a strong sense of familiarity from the past.
She froze for a moment, then showed a look of understanding.
Heh, I didn’t expect to meet an old acquaintance here. No wonder this girl refused to let me know her real identity back then… what is this? A fated encounter?
Bai Muxue narrowed her eyes, a playful smile forming on her lips.
What a coincidence… Miss magical girl who once wore a cowboy hat.
