[Vol. 9] Chapter 45: The Third Party
About the problem of the [True Name], Violet had already been warned more than once. Whether it was that golden-eyed girl herself, or the [Agent of Fate] behind Carinvega, both were people she couldn’t fully understand but whose words carried great weight. Since they kept bringing it up again and again, it was clearly not a small matter.
The panel had always shown her most real and true state. Now that her ID suddenly changed at such a moment, how could she not take it seriously?
Of course, the priestess didn’t dislike becoming stronger, but honestly, she also didn’t have an extreme desire for power.
Only what is missing will be truly sought after. Since she crossed into this world more than five years ago, Violet’s footsteps had reached every corner of this land, and she had even visited more than one faraway otherworld. She had seen countless strange and unusual things there. Yet even gods, who stood above all and were worshiped by mortals, could not act arrogant in front of her. That much was already enough.
She didn’t dream of becoming the strongest in the world or invincible in the universe. As long as she could protect herself and the people she cared about, that was enough.
So even when she learned about dangerous beings that wouldn’t be easy to deal with, like [Obscurity], the Chairman of the Twilight Council, or the [Lord of Beginning]. The priestess never rushed to investigate them, nor did she desperately seek ways to make herself stronger in order to defeat them.
Her way was always simple. When soldiers come, block them with generals. When water floods, cover it with earth. She had always been this laid-back, otherwise she would not have chosen the priest profession in the first place.
Although the [Radiance] Divinity was indeed powerful, Violet was now faintly aware that its true nature might not be the same as a normal Divinity. There might be hidden secrets inside it, or even dangers. So before she fully understood everything, recklessly strengthening it without thought would not be a wise choice.
It seemed that the next time she encountered a similar situation, she would need to be much more cautious.
As she thought this, she couldn’t help but recall another being that was also interfering in the situation, the one called the Great Evil God of the Deep Sea.
To be honest, Octavier’s stance and purpose, even their very existence, felt somewhat strange.
After all, the Origin Realm did not allow beings above the god level to exist here. Sethlin and Xiao Guang were exceptions since they were newly born gods in recent years, so that could still be explained. But as for others, like the Twilight Council or the World Sustainers, any being above god level could not directly enter this world. They could only act through avatars or executors.
This was nearly a rule of iron, tied with the force of causality itself.
Just like how the Goddess of Light once worshiped in the Holy Empire absorbed countless faith but still never managed to form a true Divinity. Or how the God of Slaughter tried to descend in person, only to be beaten back by powerful enemies right away. The God of Truth had long since fallen. Even the [Agent of Fate], who was capable of direct interference, clearly avoided staying outside too long, as if wary of something.
If this happened once or twice, it could be brushed off as coincidence. But for such cases to repeat again and again, was that really just chance?
Back when Leonis transformed into the World-Devouring Serpent, trying to rebuild the [Ring of Heaven and Earth] to shake the world’s order, Violet had deliberately not acted right away, even though she was already at the scene. She wanted to see what kind of “correction force” would appear if she really chose to stand aside.
The result was the arrival of the [Origin Machine].
The power shown by the [Origin Machine] was enough to seal or even kill that immature World-Devouring Serpent again. But the cost would have been enormous. And if the two sides had truly gone all out with no care for the aftermath, it wouldn’t just be the capital city of Austre Empire at risk. Even faraway regions might have been caught up in the destruction, leading to a terrible disaster with tens of millions of lives lost.
But, it could still achieve the result of “eliminating an existence above the god level.” That’s why Violet suddenly stepped in at that time, using the Iron-Blood Arena to trap those two inside and deal with them slowly.
But what about Octavier?
They were clearly a true god, left over from the Age of Gods, and could even actively wield divine power in the present world. So why didn’t their actions trigger the arrival of that “power of correction”?
Indeed, Octavier had always been strange in many ways. For example, they seemed to have absorbed part of the divine authority that originally belonged to the God of Azure Sea and Truth. Normally, no god should be able to hold two different laws together, yet for Octavier the problem didn’t seem too serious.
Even now, Violet still couldn’t figure out the true purpose behind what Octavier did in the Emerald Sea. Although they had met several times already, this so-called “Sea Goddess” had never truly spoken with her.
Maybe Octavier avoided the interference of the power of correction by staying in a half-sleeping, half-awake state. But such a large plan was hard to imagine as something they could have prepared all by themselves.
If that was true, then behind Octavier there might be another force, still hidden and not yet revealed, also plotting something deeply connected to the gods.
And Octavier wasn’t the only strange case. There was also the Primordial Artifact in Shadow’s hand, the Phantom Edge, and the mysterious girl who had given it to her, claiming to be Constantius.
Constantius was the ancestor of the vampires, the greatest creation of the God of Paradox, and in some sense had even surpassed her creator to become a true god. If what Shadow saw back then was really Constantius’s true self, then her so-called death must have been a shocking deception. In that case, wouldn’t her situation be strangely similar to Octavier’s?
The more Violet thought about it, the more terrifying it felt.
Before, Violet had never been able to confirm whether such an organization truly existed, nor what their real position or goal might be. But now, with the appearance of this deep-sea evil god, a faint outline of truth began to show.
The conversation with the God of Paradox, their attitude at the time, the vague hints they gave, and their undisguised intent to lead things northward. All these pieces, which once seemed fragmented, now finally came together in Violet’s mind, forming a bold guess.
Suppose there really was such an organization. Even if its strength wasn’t quite equal to the Twilight Council or the World Sustainers, it wouldn’t be far behind, and it too was made up of gods or beings at a godlike level.
But unlike the other two, this organization was far more low-key and hidden, always acting quietly from the shadows. Yet in reality, many major events so far might all have ties to them.
The revival of the Goddess of Earth, the Holy Empire War, the expedition into the Ancient Spirit Realm, Octavier’s garden-world, the vampire progenitor’s mysterious return from death, and even the Agent of Fate inside Carinvega. All these changes Violet had encountered along the way might be closely connected to them.
