Chapter 14: Goal, Drive Gu Zhiren Away!
After entering the room next door, Mu Yi first opened the window to let in fresh air.
Gu Zhiren stopped by a table that looked clean. He reached out and touched the surface. Seeing the dust on his fingers, he showed a look of dislike.
“The last tenant moved out a week ago, so it’s still fairly clean. With a little cleaning, you can move in tonight.”
Mu Yi clapped her hands. A few strands of hair outside her hood moved playfully in the breeze.
“You also heard it, there’s a construction site across the street, so it can be a bit noisy. But the windows are soundproof.”
To demonstrate, she closed the window and turned back with a light smile.
“As long as the window is closed, outside noise won’t come in. Of course, sounds inside won’t go out either.”
Gu Zhiren stood there, watching and listening to her explanation. He casually remembered what she had said in the stairway earlier, and a faint smile of appreciation appeared on his handsome face.
Although her personality was indeed troublesome, the fact that she could openly admit her own flaws already put her ahead of many people.
The problem was that she knew it, yet still chose to act that way, without any intention of changing.
Also, she could have been careless today, but she was explaining things seriously. If her starting point was responsibility, then maybe she still had hope. But if not…
Looking at Mu Yi bouncing around the room, Gu Zhiren frowned slightly.
She was like a little wild cat, full of energy.
Maybe she really wasn’t being responsible. Maybe this was just her natural personality.
“Mr. Gu, why are you just standing there?”
Mu Yi stuck her head out from the bedroom, her clean, fair face full of confusion.
“If you don’t come in, how can I continue?”
“No need. You should have the contract, right? We can just sign it. Tomorrow, workers will come to renovate the place, so keep the key for now. Please help open the door for them when they arrive.”
Seeing her wave at him, Gu Zhiren raised an eyebrow slightly and replied calmly.
Hearing this, Mu Yi blinked twice. Renovation?
Renovation definitely wouldn’t be done quickly, it would take at least ten days or half a month.
That meant Gu Zhiren wouldn’t move in for now!
So she could use this time to think of a plan. Hmm… not bad.
Her eyes filled with a soft smile, and she couldn’t help covering her mouth as she quietly laughed.
“What are you laughing at?”
Gu Zhiren looked at her with amusement and asked, even though he already had a guess.
“Nothing!”
Mu Yi immediately stopped smiling and walked out of the bedroom as if nothing happened. Then she took a key off her keychain and handed it to him, looking helpless as she shook her head.
“You really look like a rich young master who has never rented a place before. Usually, landlords keep spare keys, you know.”
Gu Zhiren smiled but said nothing. Of course he knew that. He simply took the key, then glanced at the furniture around the room and casually said,
“I don’t like using things that others have used. I already told the landlord that I will replace all the furniture here. As for the old furniture…”
At this point, he paused on purpose. Seeing Mu Yi’s eyes suddenly light up, he gave a “just as I thought” expression and looked at her directly, with a slightly teasing look.
“What? It seems like you have something to say.”
“Ah…”
Mu Yi froze for a moment. She did have something to say, but she felt like he wouldn’t agree.
“Um…”
She took a small breath, then looked at him with a forced smile.
“You’re not going to throw them away, right? That would be such a waste. Why not give them to someone who needs them, so they can be used to their full value?”
Hearing this, Gu Zhiren almost laughed. He looked down at her a couple of times.
“But I refuse.”
“Huh?”
When Mu Yi saw Gu Zhiren smile, she thought he would agree, so she was very surprised.
“Let me remind you of something too, put your effort in the right place. That’s the most effective way to change your situation.”
Gu Zhiren’s expression turned serious, and his smile disappeared. He turned and walked toward the door, his back looking calm and confident. When he reached the door, he turned around and reminded her to sign the contract.
Mu Yi stayed silent.
After signing the contract, she put it away. By chance, she noticed the wound on the back of Gu Zhiren’s left hand. She remembered the box of band-aids at home that she had never used.
She was about to go inside and get one for him.
But suddenly, Gu Zhiren asked, “I heard from Anran that you took a day off today.”
“…Uh.”
Mu Yi blinked, then gave a slightly awkward but polite smile. She raised her left hand to her chin, coughed lightly, and said,
“I was greatly shocked, so I’m not in a good condition today.”
Hearing this, Gu Zhiren frowned and repeated, “Shocked?”
Before Mu Yi could explain, he seemed to suddenly understand and nodded. He said he would come by occasionally during the renovation, then turned and walked toward the stairs.
“You don’t have to come so often. Your own matters are more important! Bye-bye.”
Watching his back, Mu Yi raised her left hand and waved beside her head, smiling brightly.
Then she turned around. Her smile quickly disappeared. Feeling annoyed and frustrated, she opened her own door, let out a deep sigh, and walked to the sofa like a lifeless person. She pulled off the hat on her head and threw it aside.
What bad luck!
She had just gotten rid of a mouse, and now this Gu Zhiren showed up, someone who seemed even harder to get rid of.
Ugh…
“No, I can’t give up!”
As she spoke, Mu Yi’s eyes became serious. She grabbed a pillow with her left hand, clenched both fists, and hit it hard from both sides, as if making a vow.
“No one can control my life. My freedom cannot be taken away…”
“My goal, drive Gu Zhiren away!”
The white-haired girl, still unaware of how dramatic she sounded, made her declaration.
……………………………
At the same time, after returning to his car, Gu Zhiren picked up the drink and opened it, about to take a sip. Suddenly, he received a message from Gu Anran.
Gu Anran: “Brother, Xiao Xi told me you went to meet Mu Yi today. Didn’t you say you would go another day? Why did you go today? So you were actually looking forward to it, right?”
Seeing this, he thought again about what Mu Yi had said and couldn’t help but smile slightly.
Looking forward to it? Not really.
After meeting her, he mostly felt disappointed. But since he had personally agreed to this, he would handle it seriously and not do it carelessly.
He replied, “Don’t think too much. Just focus on your own work.” Then he put on his sunglasses and drove away from Coral Residential Area.
……………………………
In the blink of an eye, two days passed.
The renovation workers were still busy. The old furniture had already been moved out and taken away somewhere.
The white-haired girl leaned on the balcony railing, looking toward the balcony next door.
In these two days, Gu Zhiren hadn’t come even once.
Honestly, it would be best if he never came. Though if that happened, all her preparations would be wasted.
Looking down at her slightly bruised wrists, Mu Yi remembered the fight with the mouse last night. This time, she had been careless and accidentally fell to the ground.
Both of her hands were injured. It hurt a lot.
The injury was an accident, but Mu Yi suddenly thought of a great idea. She would use this injury to make Gu Zhiren give up on supervising her.
Now everything was ready.
All she needed was Gu Zhiren to show up.
