Chapter 17: Sister-in-Law Is Amazing
Miao Lei arrived very early today. She showed up outside the shop before work time even started. Cheng Fei felt both happy and disappointed. Now she could no longer casually use chatting as an excuse to stay close to Zheng Qi.
“Let me introduce her, this is Miao Lei,” Cheng Fei said as she turned around. “And this is Zheng Qi.”
“Hello, Sister Zheng.”
Calling people “big brother,” “big sister,” “little brother,” or “little sister” was actually uncommon in real life. Hearing such a soft and gentle way of speaking, Zheng Qi suddenly felt like she had fallen into a romance drama.
“Hehe! You just started working recently, right?”
“Mhm…” The shy Miao Lei tucked her hair behind her ear and smiled softly.
“I think you look familiar, Sister. I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before.”
Cheng Fei casually searched on her phone. The first result was a photo shoot link related to Zheng Qi.
Miao Lei looked at the phone, then at Zheng Qi herself. After confirming it, her eyes widened immediately.
Well then, another little fangirl appeared!
With Zheng Qi’s hot figure, people would expect more jealous women around her. But in reality, more than half of her fans were women who admired her.
Women’s world was truly complicated.
Zheng Qi’s agency had given her a vacation. Her boyfriend was busy with work and had no time to stay with her. As for Bai Xi… being with her was like hugging a hedgehog with bare hands and asking for pain. So the only place Zheng Qi could go was Cheng Fei’s shop.
Still, Cheng Fei and Gao Ming were newly married. What if Gao Ming stopped caring about work and stayed beside Cheng Fei all day to “take care” of his wife?
That was exactly why Zheng Qi had secretly observed them earlier.
But now it was fine. With Miao Lei here too, there was nothing awkward anymore. Though strangely, Zheng Qi found chatting with shy and quiet Miao Lei more enjoyable than talking with Cheng Fei.
Cheng Fei was still gentle, friendly, and generous as before, but somehow she felt a little different now.
Maybe this was what happened when someone had fallen in love. Zheng Qi felt a little disappointed, but at the same time it also felt right. Remembering Gao Ming’s words before leaving, Zheng Qi felt her guess had been confirmed, and she became very proud of herself.
So naturally, the topic slowly moved toward daily life.
“You’re taking wedding photos?!”
The two women shouted at the same time. Cheng Fei trembled from the shock again. What was wrong with people today? Why was everyone reacting so dramatically? Were they trying to scare her into getting heart disease?
“Sister Cheng, you’re getting married?”
“Yes!” Zheng Qi almost leaned completely onto Cheng Fei’s shoulder, the envy obvious on her face. “Her husband is seriously a rich, handsome, high-quality man!”
A good husband…
Just hearing those words made Cheng Fei feel terrible. Her stomach and brain twisted together so badly she could not even describe it.
This marriage…
Sigh… it was really hard to explain.
Luckily, the shop business was doing well. Otherwise, just thinking about everything that had happened these past days already gave her a headache. If she thought too deeply about it, she would probably go crazy.
“Feifei, have you two done it yet?”
Even while eating, Zheng Qi still would not behave. Smiling mischievously, she leaned so close her face was almost touching Cheng Fei’s.
Cheng Fei forced a fake smile.
“It’s only been a few days. How could things move that fast?”
Zheng Qi swallowed her food, laid her chopsticks across the lunch box, and said,
“There’s a saying, cut through the mess quickly! If your first feeling is right and you know he’s the one, then just cook the raw rice into cooked rice!”
Hehe… she really was bold.
Next would probably be having a child and living happily as a rich housewife, supporting her husband and raising kids…
But wait, that sounded more like a way for men to tie women down.
Then again, wasn’t that exactly how those scheming female side characters in TV dramas acted?
As expected, fiction was greater than reality, but it still came from reality. Without real-life examples, screenwriters probably could not even think of such plots no matter how hard they tried.
“What… are you trying to do?”
Zheng Qi raised an eyebrow, took out the perfume bottle from this morning again, and showed that meaningful smile once more.
“You want me to… seduce him?”
Zheng Qi froze for a moment, then lightly smacked Cheng Fei.
“Don’t say it so directly! This is just giving him a little hint. Since you’re husband and wife already, you should do things that married couples normally do!”
Right. Lonely nights sleeping alone.
She really had to thank this “good best friend.” Zheng Qi truly had thought everything through.
If some mysterious man in black suddenly appeared right now and erased Cheng Fei’s memories with a powerful memory-removal device, then maybe, just maybe, Gao Ming’s handsome face really could make her climb into his bed and start making babies with him.
But she was still a strong, proud man inside...
Just imagining that scene made Cheng Fei feel sick. The delicious food instantly lost all taste for her.
Miao Lei was facing outside, but her ears had already been paying attention to their conversation. When things suddenly became quiet, she turned around and happened to meet Cheng Fei’s eyes.
“Kids shouldn’t secretly listen to adult conversations.”
Cheng Fei scolded lightly. Miao Lei turned back and continued eating, leaving Zheng Qi shaking her head helplessly.
She felt sorry for Cheng Fei. She thought it was unfair for her.
………………………
Clear footsteps stopped at the end of the hallway. Ye Dong carried some documents to the door. Known by Gao Ming as someone with a “dog’s nose,” he sniffed the air and noticed a different smell than usual.
When he pushed the door open, he saw Gao Ming happily eating from a shiny lunch box.
So it really wasn’t their usual takeout place anymore. But that was not the important part. The insulated lunch box alone was enough to shock Ye Dong.
Had their relationship become even closer now?
“If you have something to say, then say it.”
“Ahem...” Ye Dong cleared his throat and handed him the document.
After opening it and taking a look, Gao Ming frowned.
“Plagiarism?”
“They failed to blackmail us, so now they’re biting back like a mad dog.”
Gao Ming picked up his lunch box and took a bite of rice.
“If you have a stick in your hand, why be afraid? A dog-beating stick is made for beating dogs.”
“From the sound of it, after beating the dog, you also want to skin it and eat the meat.”
Gao Ming laughed and raised the corners of his mouth.
“I’m a wolf.”
“Even if dog lovers would criticize it, I agree,” Ye Dong said while secretly staring at Gao Ming’s lunch box.
The rest stayed in his heart. Not saying it already said enough.
Gao Ming kept eating calmly. Even though Ye Dong could only watch, he showed no sign of stopping. Because of his family upbringing, Gao Ming always followed the rule of not talking while eating or sleeping.
To further torture Ye Dong, Gao Ming glanced at him and actually started chewing loudly on purpose.
“I say, Big Bad Wolf, can’t you at least care a little about your image while eating?”
“You already said I’m a wolf. Have you ever seen a wolf eat politely?”
“......”
That still was not enough. Gao Ming picked up a piece of fish. Even though he knew Cheng Fei had used cod fish, he still deliberately raised it high like he was checking for bones before stuffing the whole thing into his mouth.
Finally, Ye Dong could not help swallowing his saliva.
Only then did Gao Ming act as if he had just noticed.
“Oh right, you haven’t eaten yet?”
“...Uh.”
“Go outside and eat something.”
“...I can’t hold it anymore. I won’t even make it downstairs. Let me have one bite.”
“I don’t even have enough for myself!”
“Sister-in-law cooks for you every day anyway. Why care about one or two bites!”
The two grown men fought and argued over food like a pair of children.
In the end, the four dishes were completely wiped out. Sadly, since they shared it, neither of them was full.
Was it so delicious that golden light exploded from it like in anime?
No, it was not that exaggerated.
Actually, Cheng Fei’s cooking could only be called average. The reason they enjoyed it so much was because they were used to hotel-style food. Suddenly eating simple homemade dishes felt refreshing.
It was a bit like drinking expensive wine all the time, then suddenly tasting honest homemade farm wine and being pleasantly surprised.
As the vice president of the studio and also the main planner of one of their games, Ye Dong dealt with endless work every day. He also had to visit the game forums and communities often to personally listen to players’ opinions.
It was not for pretending to be friendly or lowering himself on purpose. He genuinely wanted to make the game better.
The comments ranged from sincere suggestions to all kinds of dirty jokes and nonsense.
At first, he replied seriously to everyone. But over time, the atmosphere became strange.
“Old Tough Guy.”
Just the username alone felt extremely childish.
Ye Dong frowned. Back in university, he had been a proper normal person. What exactly had happened in the past few years after graduation that turned him into someone acting like a comedian, almost like a wild husky running around?
No.
Ye Dong shook his head. Right now, he definitely should not compare himself to a dog. There was still a wolf in the next office who planned to eat dog meat.
After logging into the game community, he noticed a hot post titled “Craving Real VR.” In only a few hours, it already had more than five hundred thousand views and thousands of replies, becoming one of the hottest posts.
Ye Dong took a look. It was just an entertainment post based on the female characters in the game. Someone suggested copying Japan and making some kind of adult product together with VR glasses.
“If this woman became your wife, even wolfberries couldn’t save you.”
After adding a funny emoji, Ye Dong quickly left the post.
Before he knew it, the sun had already started setting.
In his free time, he liked watching short videos. While leaning back in his office chair and scrolling through videos, one clip uploaded by a student’s parent suddenly caught his attention.
“After summer vacation, the students will enter the third year of middle school. You could say this is an even more important turning point in life than the college entrance exam...”
The video began like a speech.
Blue shirt, black pants, gold-rimmed glasses, pretty face, and a fairly good figure. Other than a few small flaws, her appearance was good enough to become a celebrity.
There were many women like this around him. But the natural charm she gave off was something those others could never compare to.
But was she really a teacher?
Or was she just an internet influencer pretending for views?
