Chapter 331: Bad News

“Hello~ Dad, good morning~”

Early in the morning, An Han got a call from her father.

Her parents usually call her once every one or two weeks, and unless she has something important, she only calls them once a month.

Now that she finally has freedom while studying away from home, she has no intention of calling back every day to report her life.

She lay lazily on the bed. Her messy shirt-style pajamas only had two buttons left fastened, and a large area of her white skin was exposed to the air. But since Su Peng wasn’t home, she wasn’t worried he would see her and lose control.

Besides, with Su Peng’s “few-seconds” problem, he might not even have time to “eat” before everything is already over.

An Han actually felt a little worried about his mental health, what if he became insecure?

“What are you laughing at?”

“Nothing!”

She didn’t even realize she was laughing until her father questioned her. Only then did she quickly stop. She rolled over, placed a pillow under her legs, and asked, “Dad, why did you suddenly call me?”

Her father sounded a bit annoyed. “I’m your father. I’m not allowed to call you?”

“Well… that’s not what I meant…”

“Is Su Peng next to you?”

An Han immediately denied it. “Impossible!”

“Don’t forget what I told you.”

Wait! What did he say again?

She froze for a second and replied half-heartedly, “Got it, got it.”

Her father sighed softly and chatted with her for a bit, asking about her life and studies during the past two weeks.

In the end, he finally got to the main topic. “We bought a house. In Longcheng.”

“For me?” An Han’s eyes brightened instantly.

What’s this “system” thing that keeps using a house to tempt her? Compared to that, look at her dad, he bought a house without even saying anything.

“For your mom and me, for retirement.”

“Oh…”

Her excitement vanished immediately.

If she were still male, the new house would probably be her future wedding house. But now she’s a girl, and her boyfriend is a rich second-generation. There’s clearly no need for another house.

Feeling bored of staying on the bed, she got up and left the bedroom with her phone.

She turned on the speaker and placed the phone in the bathroom. While washing up, she casually answered her father’s questions.

“No, Su Peng doesn’t even know where I live.”

“Yes, yes, yes…”

“I have enough clothes. No need to buy more.”

As she brushed her teeth, her father suddenly said, “I’m going abroad next week.”

“Huh? So soon?”

“I need to make money to pay the mortgage.” She could hear the sound of him making tea. He continued, “I’ll depart from Gaoxi Airport near where you live. Can you come send me off?”

“Uh… yes, of course.”

If her father came, he would definitely walk around the apartment again.

She might need to clean up the second bedroom to hide any signs that someone else had been living there.

Just as she was thinking about all this, she heard a “beep beep” from the living room, and then the smart door lock opened.

Su Peng’s voice came in loudly. “An Han, I bought you crispy pork belly! And two baby lobsters!”

An Han froze and slowly looked at the phone on speaker.

Her father didn’t say anything. Only his heavy breathing could be heard.

“Hiss—”

Did she just get exposed?!

She quickly turned off the speaker, picked up the phone, and calmly said, “My food delivery arrived. I’ll hang up first, okay?”

“You’re living together with that brat?!”

“What are you talking about? How could that be possible…”

While she answered her dad, she quickly stuck her head out of the bathroom and kept shaking her head at Su Peng, making a “don’t talk” gesture.

“An Han, one of the lobsters died. Hurry and cook it, okay?”

But Su Peng was still checking the two small lobsters he bought. He didn’t even look up, so he didn’t see her gestures at all.

On the phone, her father felt his blood pressure go up.

He had guessed that An Han wouldn’t completely listen to him, and maybe she would step over the line a little…

But he never expected that Su Peng was living together with his daughter!

They weren’t even married yet! His daughter was already living with a boy and maybe even… already “eaten up”?!

“Dad, he just brought me some food, that’s all.”

Realizing that explaining more would only make things worse, An Han quickly changed her story. “You can’t expect me to refuse breakfast just because he brought it to me, right?”

“He knows your door lock password?”

“……”

Su Peng finally heard An Han’s voice and sensed something was wrong. He looked confused.

What was happening? Did her future father-in-law call?

He looked at An Han in a daze. She gave him a helpless smile. But as soon as their eyes met, An Han also noticed the injury on his hand.

Her father was still angry on the phone.

An Han looked at Su Peng’s injured hand, then at her phone… torn about what to do.

“Dad, I’m hanging up first, something happened.”

“Mm-hm, calm down first. I’ll call you again later.”

She hung up, frowned, and quickly walked toward Su Peng.

“What happened to your hand?”

“I bumped it by accident.”

Su Peng instantly hid his hand in his pocket and tried to change the subject. “You hanging up will only make him angrier…”

But when she looked at him closely, she noticed many strange things.

Su Peng wasn’t someone who dressed up too much, but he was always clean and neat. He always fixed his hair and clothes before going out, and whenever they met, he tried his best to look good.

But today, he was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday. After gym training and walking around the city, these clothes should have been washed.

His hair was messy, with several strands sticking up. His eye bags were dark. Even though he still had that gentle smile, she could see real tiredness under it.

“What happened?”

An Han frowned tightly and stared straight into his eyes.

The mission wasn’t completed just because he visited his parents…

Su Peng’s smile paused, then turned into a helpless sigh. He lowered his head and said, “I had a fight with my parents.”

“And your hand? Did you guys fight physically?”

“No, nothing like that. They pushed me, and my hand hit the wall.” He complained casually, like it wasn’t a big deal. “I think I’ve been too obedient these last few years. They think I should listen to them about everything.”

“I told you before, right? In junior high and high school I was pretty rebellious. It was because of them. Damn… they controlled me every day. Being home felt like jail.”

An Han’s heart tightened painfully.

She had met Su Peng’s parents before. They seemed warm, friendly, not the cold, strict kind of rich parents she had imagined.

When they were at the pet hospital, Su Peng even seemed to get along fine with his dad…

An Han asked with worry, “Are you hurt anywhere else?”

“Just a little swelling on my hand, it’s nothing.”

“That’s good…”

“But if I don’t go abroad, they said they’ll cut off my living expenses.”

“Huh?”

Su Peng suddenly laughed, sounding relaxed. Even though he looked worn-out on the outside, his back was straight, and he spoke easily.

“It’s fine. I hid some private money.”

“I’ve got like five or six pairs of limited-edition sneakers I’ve never worn, some unopened figures, and I saved some money in funds… should be around a hundred thousand.”

An Han felt that he had been preparing for this day for a long time.
