Chapter 333: Part-Time Job
“When will the scholarship money come out~”
During class, An Han lay weakly on her desk and sighed with a sad face.
Before, even though she was poor, she still had Su Peng to rely on, so she never felt much pressure. But now Su Peng is also broke, and he’s even eating and drinking at her place.
In the past, when she ran out of money, she could still ask her father for more. But yesterday she made her father really angry, so now she doesn’t dare to ask again.
Her father is also going to visit the school this weekend, and she needs to send him off for his trip abroad… She is a bit anxious. She is afraid that once her parents find out she and Su Peng are basically half living together, they will strongly oppose their relationship.
“It’s fine. I’ll just work in the school cafeteria later,” Su Peng said calmly, not worried at all. “At noon, take my shoes and figures to the rental place. If we really have no money, we can sell a couple.”
“Didn’t you say we should try not to use that money…”
Su Peng curled his lips. “We can’t starve to death, right?”
“I’m afraid if you work in the cafeteria, you’ll get kicked out in a few days. The scholarship money will be sent soon anyway. Let’s just spend less for now.”
He immediately understood what she meant. His small smile faded, and he said seriously, “This time, unless they apologize first, I won’t admit I was wrong. We need to be ready for a long battle.”
“Ugh… why make the situation so stiff…”
His previous blind date was arranged by his parents, but at the time he had no intention of dating or getting married.
Going abroad was also something his parents decided. But he felt that even if he went to a top school overseas, it would only be for ‘show’ or to meet children of rich and powerful families. But he didn’t like doing those things.
“I can support myself. If I give in this time, they’ll be even worse in the future.”
An Han didn’t fully understand Su Peng’s point of view. Her parents also sometimes tried to control her, but mostly they just stopped her from doing certain things, instead of forcing her to do things she didn’t want to do. So she didn’t really dislike that occasional control.
Still, she supported Su Peng’s decision. “Okay, that’s fine too.”
It wasn’t just because of the system task, Su Peng fighting with his family was also for her.
“Then I want to find a part-time job too.”
“You? If you get a part-time job, you’ll probably have to retake your final exams.”
An Han glared at him. “No way!”
She sounded confident, but the next second she looked around guiltily. “If the time comes, you can let me copy enough answers to pass, right?”
Su Peng rested his chin on one hand, looking helpless. “It’s better if you study yourself.”
“I don’t like studying this stuff…”
They didn’t stay on this topic for long. Su Peng turned around and looked around the classroom.
He wanted to find a classmate who had worked in the cafeteria before and ask about it. Even if he wanted a part-time job now, he didn’t know where to apply.
“Didn’t Dongming work delivering food for the cafeteria in first year?” he asked An Han.
“He did. He was super slow, and he even stole food from my orders.”
An Han complained angrily, “If we weren’t close friends, I would have complained about him ages ago!”
“You also used to trick him a lot.”
Being exposed so directly, she quietly lowered her head, picked up her phone, and opened her chat with Wu Dongming. “I’ll ask him about the cafeteria part-time job for you.”
…………………………
When class ended at twelve noon, An Han and Su Peng found Wu Dongming, who was waiting for them in the hallway.
Facing An Han again, Wu Dongming still looked nervous and unsure of what to do.
He lifted his head and looked at An Han, who was wearing a bright white outfit. This girl used to be his close friend, but now she looked sweet and pure, and she was holding Su Peng’s arm. Her whole body seemed to give off the “smell of being in love.”
He really couldn’t imagine that the friend who used to be even worse than a dog, who never did anything proper, had now become pretty, had a good figure, and even ended up dating his roommate.
Who knows what indescribable things the two of them might have done already.
His expression froze for a second. Wu Dongming gave the couple a small nod as a greeting, then walked straight toward the stairs.
“I asked the boss I worked for before. She said she happens to need people right now. I’ll take you two there.”
“Thanks, that helps a lot.”
“Wow~ you work fast!” An Han joked as she followed behind. “Later I’ll treat you to a meal!”
“I’m trying to lose weight.”
“Lose what weight? I’ll treat you to the new spicy mix place in the cafeteria!”
Wu Dongming frowned, trying to reject her, but then he remembered the oily and spicy smell of that dish. His mouth, which hadn’t had oily food during the diet, suddenly felt greedy for it.
“I went with Su Peng once,” she continued. “It’s a bit spicy, but it goes well with rice.”
He let out a heavy sigh. “Fine…”
His diet had just started to show results, but now it would be ruined by An Han… Truly, friends are the biggest obstacle on the road of losing weight.
The three of them arrived at the school cafeteria. An Han found a seat and sat down, while Wu Dongming took Su Peng to apply for the job.
With nothing to do, she rested her chin on her hands, watching the backs of the two men walking away. She couldn’t help worrying about Su Peng.
Delivering food would be okay, but if they put him in the kitchen… that would be too scary.
After waiting nearly thirty minutes, the cafeteria crowd thinned out a lot. Just as An Han was starting to get impatient, Wu Dongming came walking toward her alone from one corner of the cafeteria.
“How is it?” she quickly stood up and asked.
“He’s hired.”
Wu Dongming pointed toward a fast-food stall. “He’ll help deliver take-out orders for that place.”
“Delivering orders? That’s good then.”
As long as he wasn’t working in the kitchen. Otherwise, Su Peng might get fired in just two days for being clumsy.
Looking toward the stall from afar, An Han soon spotted a tall figure, about 1.8 meters tall, wearing a mask. He was working inside the window, hurriedly packing food for take-out orders.
Even though she couldn’t see his face, she recognized Su Peng immediately.
He didn’t seem used to it yet, his hands were messy and his movements were stiff.
Looks like she should order from that fast-food place more often. Maybe she could run into him while he was working.
“Well… I guess it counts as experiencing life.”
She muttered to herself, then suddenly walked up to Wu Dongming with a smile. She instinctively reached out, wanting to hook her arm around his shoulders, but he quickly stepped back to avoid it.
She didn’t mind. Smiling, she asked, “So, are we going to eat the spicy mix?”
“Maybe we should skip it…”
Wu Dongming suddenly became shy again. Being alone with a pretty girl made him extremely nervous. His cheeks even turned a little red.
“Come on, let’s go! What are you shy about?”
An Han cheerfully stepped closer, and Wu Dongming kept backing away until he bumped into a table and finally stopped.
Seeing his shocked expression, An Han didn’t know what to say. She pouted, feeling bored, stopped teasing him, and turned toward the spicy mix stall.
“Alright, I’ll stop messing with you. Let’s go eat.”
