Chapter 338: Taking the Blame

An Han stood there awkwardly, and the steps she wanted to take to stop him also froze in place.

She lowered her head, feeling extremely guilty, and let out a quiet sigh.

It felt just like when the small notebooks she secretly collected, or some adult items, got found by family members while cleaning. Her face was burning so much it felt like it might start smoking.

Her dad’s eyes were way too sharp. He opened the wardrobe and immediately saw that backless sweater.

She originally wanted to say something like “men and women should keep some distance” to make her dad leave, but he didn’t seem to think there was anything wrong with checking his daughter’s wardrobe.

She forced herself to explain, “I was just curious… I bought it for fun…”

Would her dad think she was some kind of weirdo?

Feeling embarrassed and nervous, An Han stared at her toes, imagining what might happen when her dad discovered his daughter was “dirty-minded.”

Well… wanting romantic things is normal for everyone!

She muttered that angrily in her heart, though she didn’t dare say it out loud.

“Su Peng, that brat!” Her father’s chest rose and fell with anger. He threw the sweater onto the bed and rolled up his sleeves as he marched out of the room.

An Han, who was ready to accept a scolding, blinked in confusion.

What does this sweater have to do with Su Peng?

It was a reward from the system. Go blame the system instead…

She stared blankly at her father leaving the bedroom, and she couldn’t help feeling curious. She tiptoed quietly to the doorway, held the door frame with both hands, and stuck her head out to peek.

Su Peng had heard An Han’s voice earlier and looked toward the bedroom feeling confused. Not thinking too much about it, he took a few more bites of food, eating with a bitter expression.

Seems like he should avoid them for a while. His future father-in-law’s prejudice against him was way too strong.

Heavy footsteps approached. Su Peng looked up with a flattering smile, “Uncle, don’t rush to clean yet, come eat first.”

Her father stared at him angrily.

Earlier, he had sworn that he had never even touched a single hair on An Han. Then how does he explain that clearly romantic sweater?

So he didn’t touch, only looked? Only someone as naive as his daughter would believe that!

“Uncle?”

Su Peng suddenly felt a chill down his spine. The hair on his arms stood up. His animal instinct sensed danger, and his adrenaline spiked immediately.

“What’s wrong?”

His smile turned stiff and helpless. Under that tiger-like glare, he became more and more uneasy.

What happened? What did I do wrong? Why is he angry?

“You really need me to say it?”

His clueless, innocent face only made her father even angrier.

“???”

Her father opened his mouth but was so angry he couldn’t even form words. He pointed at the door, anger overflowing.

“Get out!”

Su Peng didn’t even dare ask why. He jumped up immediately, “I’ll leave, I’ll leave. Please don’t get angry. Getting angry is bad for your health.”

Seeing the “I’m-going-to-eat-you” look on his future father-in-law’s face, he didn’t dare speak another word. Still confused, he hurried out of the rental place, carefully closed the door, then let out a sigh and sat down on the stairs with a wronged expression.

What did I do?

It can’t be that An Han complained about how I need to use her “5 fingers” every night, right?

But she seemed to enjoy herself too…

“Could he be angry because I’m not good enough?”

Su Peng froze, then quickly denied that thought.

With An Han’s personality, she would never tell her father something like “my boyfriend came out too quickly,” and besides, she definitely knew saying something like that would reveal how close they really are.

He suddenly remembered the backless sweater he had seen before. If the reason was really that sweater, then he was really being blamed for nothing. After all, he only saw it once, and even then, An Han was wearing pants.

…………………………

“Dad…” An Han sat on the sofa with her head lowered.

Her father was still angry. He tapped the table with his finger and said, “Eat.”

“Okay.”

An Han took a few bites of rice and nervously watched her father’s expression.

It’s fine. If Su Peng has to suffer a little, then so be it. Her father would take a plane tomorrow anyway.

The ticket was already booked, and he still had work overseas. It wasn’t possible for him to change his flight at the last minute.

At worst, she could ask Su Peng to stay at the school dorm for one day. After her father left, she could give Su Peng a little “compensation”…

She was thinking about all this when her chopsticks picked up nothing but air.

Her father noticed this mistake and understood her mood at that moment. He let out a long sigh.

“Girls really can’t be kept at home once they grow up.”

“……”

Boys can’t be kept either, okay? Just look at Su Peng and his parents.

An Han didn’t know what to say. She continued eating quietly, planning to finish lunch as fast as possible and then run back to her room, pretend to take a nap, and avoid her father.

She finally understood how scary it was when parents wanted too much control.

She could still tolerate it during winter break, but now she really didn’t understand her father anymore.

Maybe her father’s affection for her was almost overflowing now, but for her, he was someone she only saw a few times a year. In more than twenty years, their total time together might not even add up to one full year.

Her university roommates might even feel closer than him… a “very familiar stranger.”

Suddenly, An Han said, “Dad, you shouldn’t look through my wardrobe. Everyone has privacy. And I’m a girl now.”

Her father was caught off guard by her sudden statement. He froze for a moment, and his anger calmed down a lot.

He was, after all, a university graduate from the previous century and someone who had worked overseas for many years. He did not react with the usual “parents’ authority being challenged” kind of anger. Instead, he nodded calmly.

“You’re right. That part was my fault.”

An Han’s eyes lit up when she heard that.

So he wasn’t as hard to talk to as she imagined!

Next, she needed to continue the attack. She had to convince her father not to interfere with his children’s right to choose their partners…

“But Su Peng, his character is definitely bad!”

Ah… that’s not what she expected.

Her father started criticizing Su Peng fiercely. “He comes from a rich family, has power, and looks good. Sounds nice, but in the future he’ll definitely cheat and keep a mistress!”

The first sentence came out with a bit of guilt because he knew he was just guessing. But then he got even angrier.

“He doesn’t say anything honest! He promised me something, and then turned around and broke it in an instant!”

“He promised he wouldn’t touch you before marriage! And he still couldn’t keep that promise!”

An Han really didn’t dare say that in most cases she was the one who took the initiative with Su Peng…

When it came to Su Peng taking the lead, it was basically just kissing and holding her waist.

Even though the system pushed things along, she actually enjoyed teasing Su Peng quite a lot.

Listening to her father’s rant, she quietly threw away her earlier plan.

Let Su Peng suffer for now. Even if her father didn’t approve, it didn’t matter. After all, he stayed overseas all year and only came home around New Year.

He couldn’t interfere with her life from another country anyway. And her mother actually had a pretty good impression of Su Peng.

By the time she and Su Peng took the household booklet and registered for marriage, her father might only learn about it when he received the wedding invitation.

“Yes, yes, you’re right.”
