Chapter 83: We’re Basically Bros
“Really, I’m not,” Bai Shuchuan said, gently tapping her lips to show he meant it. “You don’t have to keep asking this. How could I find you annoying?”
“I just worry,” Su Moyu said. Hearing his gentle voice made her heart start beating fast.
What’s going on… why am I getting charmed again?
“No need to worry,” Bai Shuchuan replied. Just as he finished speaking, the doorbell rang.
“Oh, my food is here,” Su Moyu said as she got off his lap, carefully avoiding his lower body.
At a time like this, she didn’t even need to think. Bai Shuchuan was a healthy young man, so she had to be a bit careful.
Honestly, it was kind of hard for him. With her current condition, he would probably have to hold back for a whole week.
“Coming!” Su Moyu called out as she ran to the door, took her delivery, and then sat obediently at the dining table.
It felt like she hadn’t eaten this kind of food in a long time.
She even started to miss the cheap, strong flavors.
Ever since things changed for her and she went back home, she mostly ate food cooked by Bai’s mother. After coming here, she was always sticking close to Bai Shuchuan, so she rarely had the chance to eat this kind of unhealthy food.
But today, she really, really craved it. Maybe it was because her period came earlier than expected.
Bai Shuchuan walked out of the room, sat on the sofa, and casually turned on the TV.
“Bai Shuchuan, how about we get a cat?” Su Moyu said while chewing a piece of meat.
“Of course we can,” Bai Shuchuan replied.
She had actually talked about this with him before.
“It’s just… it can be troublesome sometimes. If the cat gets sick, it could cost quite a lot.”
Su Moyu knew their situation was a bit tight right now, but she kept seeing cute cats on short videos, and she really couldn’t resist anymore.
“Yeah…”
She knew she loved cats, but she wasn’t sure what it would really be like to raise one.
“Let’s wait until we solve the money problem, okay?” Bai Shuchuan said in a calm, discussing tone.
Su Moyu looked up at his face. Even though she felt a little disappointed.
“Okay,” she nodded, then stuffed another piece of meat into her mouth, as if that could help ease her disappointment.
Bai Shuchuan blinked, feeling like he should make it up to her a bit.
“How about we go to a cat café this afternoon?” he suggested.
Su Moyu stopped chewing, and then a smile appeared on her face.
“Mm, yeah! If I can’t have one, I can at least pet someone else’s cat,” she said, her words a bit unclear because she was still eating.
Seeing her smile again made Bai Shuchuan feel more relaxed too.
After swallowing her food, Su Moyu suddenly remembered she still needed to find a job.
“Maybe we shouldn’t go this afternoon. I still haven’t found a job,” she said helplessly.
She had already delayed looking for a part-time job for several days. If she kept putting it off, she would feel really guilty.
“What kind of job are you planning to look for?” Bai Shuchuan asked.
She hadn’t really decided yet. She had only taken a quick look on some part-time job apps.
“Um… part-time jobs are all pretty similar, right? If nothing else, I can just work at the school convenience store,” she replied. “As long as I can earn money. Let’s solve the money problem first, then we can get a cat!”
“Then let’s still go this afternoon. Even if you apply, it’ll probably only start tomorrow anyway.”
Su Moyu chuckled. “What, you really want to go to a cat café that much?”
Bai Shuchuan cleared his throat. “Actually…”
He had just started speaking when Su Moyu cut him off.
“Alright, alright, I get it. I’ll go with you, even if I have to force myself~”
Seeing her lower her head again and continue eating the roasted chicken, Bai Shuchuan felt there was no need to argue with her, so he quietly stayed silent.
“Okay,” he replied.
Maybe something had changed in him, because Bai Shuchuan suddenly felt that going out like this wasn’t bad at all.
At least waking up in the morning to see the sunrise, or going shopping with Su Moyu, all felt better than he had expected.
Maybe when it comes to going out, having the right person with you is very important.
After finishing her food, Su Moyu stood up from the table and stretched. She glanced at Bai Shuchuan sitting on the sofa. Honestly, she kind of wanted to order him to come help clean the table.
No, no, that would be too lazy.
Even though she could use not feeling well as an excuse, and Bai Shuchuan knew what she was like, she still didn’t want him to think she was lazy.
What if he said something bad about her in front of his mom?
Hmm… actually, she felt like she would be more likely to complain to his mom instead.
After cleaning up, Su Moyu went into the bathroom and quickly changed her sanitary pad, then returned to the bedroom to rest for a while.
That damn birth control pill, she felt so tired even just from eating.
“Are you feeling very uncomfortable?” Bai Shuchuan asked with concern as he walked into the room.
“No, I just want to sleep a bit,” Su Moyu replied, casually checking the time on her phone.
“Okay.”
“Come lie down with me,” she said.
Bai Shuchuan didn’t have the habit of sleeping during the day. Su Moyu didn’t understand why he resisted it, taking a nap in bed felt so comfortable, but he would rather sit on a chair and rest.
As soon as Bai Shuchuan lay down, Su Moyu slipped into his arms.
“Sigh, today really feels lazy. I skipped class, and after eating I just sleep. I kind of feel guilty.”
“You didn’t really miss much. Just two classes, and they didn’t teach anything important,” Bai Shuchuan comforted her, gently patting her head.
Su Moyu suddenly looked up at him with a serious expression.
“Bai Shuchuan, what kind of hugs do you like?”
He thought for a moment. “I don’t know.”
“Why are you asking this all of a sudden?” he added.
“Well…” Su Moyu cleared her throat. “I know what food you like and your hobbies, but when it comes to how you act in a relationship, it feels like I’ve been the one telling you what to do. I never really asked what you like.”
“I… I’m fine with anything,” Bai Shuchuan replied.
A meaningful smile appeared on Su Moyu’s face.
“Hey, why are you acting shy with me? We’re basically bros,” she said in a joking, bold tone. “As long as it’s not too dark, even a little weird is fine.”
Even though they weren’t really “bros” anymore…
Bai Shuchuan didn’t know what to say. He had thought about many things, but suddenly being asked to say it out loud made it hard.
Seeing him hesitate, Su Moyu simply sat up on the bed and patted her lower belly.
“Come here, lean on me.”
