[Vol. 9] Chapter 69: Flower Rain
Without a word, the big golden dog called “Little Fang” glanced warily at the wildly spreading black flames. Then it nodded, pushed off with its legs, and became a streak of gold so fast it was hard to see. It chased after the target at amazing speed.
Soon, Moraya, who had lost her foe when the black fire burst out, returned to the priestess’s side. She had seen everything that had happened and now wore a clear look of surprise and worry on her beautiful face.
“Miss Violet, what... exactly is that?” she asked.
Violet looked back at her, a small, almost teasing smile in her eyes.
“Do you mean Little Fang, or the black flames?”
“Now is not the time for jokes. You really are... uh, calm in a crisis...” Moraya said, half laughing and half exasperated. Her tense mood from the black fire had eased a bit because of Violet’s relaxed attitude.
They had known each other long enough to understand one another’s character. Violet often seemed carefree and hard to read, but when it mattered she was not reckless. Overall, she could be relied on.
Moraya turned her worried gaze to where Veranica was, now completely surrounded by the dense, strange black flames, so thick that they couldn’t see inside. Even though Violet had sent a beam of golden light there earlier, nothing had happened for a long time, and Moraya couldn’t help but worry about the new ally they had just pulled in.
“Are you sure it’s okay? This flame feels very strange, like it holds a strong... that realm-energy. If it keeps spreading like this, I’m worried not just for us, but for others on the island...” she trailed off.
Violet didn’t answer directly. Instead she smiled and blinked playfully.
“Oh? Aren’t you going to ask about Little Fang? I can tell you clearly care a lot. Don’t be shy~”
“Cough... I’m talking about serious things here,” Moraya said, making a slightly upset face.
Violet found it amusing but stopped teasing and nodded, more serious now.
“Alright, alright. Liking furry creatures is natural for girls, nothing to be ashamed of. As for Veranica, you don’t need to worry too much. That fire is strange, yes, but I’m not helpless. I won’t let her get hurt.”
Her tone changed slightly and grew thoughtful.
“But have you thought about one thing? Why, out of the three of us on the battlefield at the same time, was she the one singled out by that black flame?”
Moraya frowned and thought for a moment, her ice-blue eyes searching.
“Black... flame. If you think this isn’t a coincidence, could it be linked to the artifact she just obtained, or... related to the Fire God?”
“Yes, that’s a strong possibility. That’s why I thought we should let them get close for a bit and see what shows up. Maybe we’ll find a clue,” Violet replied.
She looked again at the sea of black fire centered on Veranica, which had now spread for hundreds of meters, and shook her head.
“This thing is really vicious. We can’t just leave it running wild.”
Saying that, the priestess stopped watching from afar. She raised her staff and gently opened her lips.
“I say darkness shall be purified.”
Then, pure flowers of light fell from the sky.
It was a Tenth-Tier Forbidden Spell — [Flower of No Darkness].
The rain of glowing petals floated lightly, carried by invisible wind, drifting toward the spreading sea of black flames. They looked weightless, yet wherever they touched, burning rocks, flesh, or even the heated air, everything silently vanished, erased into nothingness.
This was not “purification,” but complete erasure. A force that wiped out everything within range that did not belong to light.
Only the black flames could barely resist this supreme power of annihilation. When the flowers of light and the black fire met, they intertwined and clashed like soldiers locked in fierce battle, releasing sharp crackling sounds in the air!
It was the collision of laws, the sound of powers beyond matter fighting and destroying each other. The black flames were truly strange; they could even burn part of the flowers born from a forbidden spell. Yet at the same time, the [Flower of No Darkness] was erasing the black fire in return.
Both were “absolute” forces, so when they fought, it all came down to whose strength ran deeper and whose power lasted longer. The black fire, after all, was limited in size, while the rain of light flowers seemed endless, falling without stop from the heavens. Slowly, the balance tipped, and the black fire began to weaken.
“Oh my Snow God...”
Watching the black-haired girl holding her staff calmly control the endless flower rain from afar, fighting the black flames in such an unbelievable way, even though Moraya had already thought highly of her strength, she still gasped softly, deeply shocked.
She could clearly feel that within those flowers of light was a power no less than, perhaps even greater than, that of the black flames. The two opposing forces, the devouring fire and the void-like light, clashed violently, canceling each other out.
It felt somewhat like the “purification” property of holy light, but... something was different. Instead of holiness, what Moraya sensed was silence, wherever the rain of light fell, everything became utterly still, leaving behind only an empty feeling of nothingness.
Strange... something about this doesn’t feel right.
Moraya couldn’t quite explain it, nor did she dare to make a sound and disturb the priestess at such a crucial time. The strange sense of emptiness made her uneasy, but she pushed the feeling aside and kept watching in silence.
The huge mass of black flames that had covered nearly half of the rocky valley began to shrink quickly under the falling light rain. The black fire melted away like ice and snow, still twisting and struggling, but unable to resist the endless rain of glowing petals.
Clearly, though both sides held power from the same realm, their strength was not equal. There was a clear difference in quality.
If she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, Moraya would never have believed that a battle could be fought like this, by directly controlling the laws themselves. This was far beyond her understanding of power.
The black fire’s terror and mystery were unimaginable, yet the unreasonable strength the priestess displayed surpassed even that. In just a short time, the raging sea of black flames was forcefully suppressed, reduced back to the small core area where it had first erupted.
