Volume 4 Chapter 10: The Other Side of a Popular Idol
“I just came back recently. Your brother found out before you did. Hmm, that’s strange. What have you been busy with lately? Dating someone?”
Yi Xiao didn’t wait for an answer. She laughed and jumped forward to hug Gao Ye. The “little devil” had no way to deal with this woman and kept stepping back until Yi Xiao finally walked into the house and closed the door behind her.
“Oh my, isn’t this Xiao Xiao?”
Hearing the noise at the door, Grandma Gao came out to take a look. When she saw Yi Xiao, she greeted her with surprise.
“Hey, Grandma! Long time no see. Sorry to disturb you. I came to hang out with Gao Ye.”
“Of course, of course. It really has been a long time. The last time I saw you, you were still a child. Now you’ve grown up so much!”
“Really? Time flies. Are you feeling well? When I was filming in another city, I saw a very good health product. It helps with high blood sugar. I thought of you right away and bought some. I’ll have someone bring it to you later.”
Yi Xiao warmly held Grandma Gao’s hand. The old woman smiled happily and nodded.
“You’re so thoughtful. How has your father been these past two years?”
“Oh, he’s doing okay. Not great, not bad. He says being safe and healthy is already good enough.”
“That’s right. Being safe and healthy is the most important thing. Alright, I won’t disturb you two girls. Go have fun.”
Listening to their friendly conversation, Gao Ye even felt goosebumps. She started to wonder whether she was Grandma’s real granddaughter or if Yi Xiao was.
Well, it was understandable.
After all, Yi Xiao was a girl Grandma knew very well.
She was the daughter of a family friend and often came over to play when they were little. Their families were close, so Grandma naturally remembered Uncle Yi’s daughter.
Even though they hadn’t seen each other much in recent years, Yi Xiao used to be Gao Ye’s childhood friend.
After greeting Grandma, Yi Xiao smiled, turned around, and pushed Gao Ye all the way to her bedroom.
Once inside, Yi Xiao looked around the room with interest. She noticed that the computer screen was still on.
Gao Ye suddenly realized something was wrong. She rushed to the computer and quickly clicked to end the livestream.
Phew… that was close. Luckily Yi Xiao hadn’t spoken yet.
If she had said even one sentence, Gao Ye’s identity might have been exposed.
Because the stream suddenly ended, the remaining viewers started sending question marks.
Gao Ye quickly typed in the chat:
“Someone suddenly came to my house. See you tomorrow!”
【???】
【So your boyfriend came over? I’m shocked.】
【The catgirl secretly streaming behind her boyfriend’s back? I’m interested.】
【So the love triangle turns into true love? Haha.】
【Who came? I’m so curious!】
【Don’t be curious. It’s me at the catgirl’s house. Outdoor stream later!】
【Xiao Ye official: ????】
【Xiao Ye official: Stop making things up! It’s an older relative visiting. I need to greet them. Don’t talk nonsense!】
Gao Ye’s face turned red as she hurried to explain.
If Lin Yu came back to the stream later and saw those messages, he might really misunderstand.
He didn’t understand internet jokes very well. He might think too much about it.
“Huh?”
Before Gao Ye could finish arguing with the chat, Yi Xiao, who had been standing to the side, leaned closer and glanced at the computer screen.
Noticing Yi Xiao’s strange look, Gao Ye quickly closed the webpage and awkwardly turned around.
The two girls stared at each other in silence.
“Hmm? Were you livestreaming?”
Yi Xiao tilted her head. Gao Ye felt nervous and quickly said, “Ah, um… ahem, I was just watching a stream because I was bored.”
Her mind worked fast. Yi Xiao didn’t seem to understand much about it. She just nodded and said,
“I heard livestreaming is very popular now. That… what do they call it? Virtual streamers? I don’t really get it.”
“Ahahaha…”
Hearing a real-life idol say she didn’t understand virtual streamers, and even sound like she was about to criticize them, Gao Ye quickly changed the topic.
“Sister Yi Xiao… you’ve never livestreamed before? I heard many celebrities do livestreams too.”
“I’ve done it before,” Yi Xiao said casually. “But I’m not good at it. I don’t know what to do during a stream. Singing and dancing? It’s not like I’m on a real stage. I feel too lazy. So I just sit there and talk awkwardly. Or sometimes I go to someone else’s stream and help sell products. It’s boring. If my agency didn’t tell me to do it, I wouldn’t bother.”
She sounded annoyed as she spoke, then sat down on Gao Ye’s bed. Gao Ye turned around in her computer chair and looked at her, not sure how to continue the conversation.
“So, Xiao Ye, you’re living here now? How is it? Are you used to it?”
“It’s okay. It’s more comfortable than staying at home.”
Yi Xiao nodded. She didn’t say more. She knew very well what kind of situation the Gao family had. There had been problems since they were little.
That brought them to an important topic.
Gao Liang…
Yi Xiao gave a sly smile and suddenly asked, looking at Gao Ye who seemed a bit uneasy.
“By the way, Xiao Ye, what have you been calling me since I came in?”
“Yi Xiao… Sister Yi Xiao?”
Hearing that question, Gao Ye felt nervous. She had a bad feeling. Yi Xiao tilted her head.
“Should you be calling me that?”
“Then… what should I call you?”
Sweat slowly formed on Gao Ye’s face. Don’t tell her… she still wanted that title?
“When you were little, you can call me the same way now~ hehe~”
Yi Xiao suddenly reached out and started tickling Gao Ye. She moved her hands everywhere playfully. Gao Ye was caught off guard. The two of them struggled and laughed, just like when they were kids.
After a while, Gao Ye couldn’t take it anymore.
In the end, she panted and gave in.
“Fine, fine, I’ll say it, okay? When I was little, sometimes I called you… sister-in-law…”
“Though most of the time I still called you Sister Yi Xiao. But honestly, I like ‘sister-in-law’ more~”
“But I can’t call you that anymore. I’ll just call you Sister Yi Xiao.”
Gao Ye shook her head firmly.
Yi Xiao paused. Her expression slowly became serious.
“Hmph. I see,” she said coldly. “After all, Gao Liang suddenly has another girl by his side now, right? Hmph. Who is that girl? Do you know her, Xiao Ye?”
“Ah…”
Finally, they reached the topic Gao Ye least wanted to discuss with this woman.
She looked away and mumbled, “Um… I don’t really know.”
“Don’t lie. How could you not know about your brother?” Yi Xiao’s eyes became sharp. “Tell me the truth.”
