Chapter 340: Hurry Up!
It was hard for An Han to say she had any real feelings toward her father. After all, she only saw him at home during Chinese New Year, and they never talked much.
Her impression of him was mostly strict and serious. He rarely smiled, always looked proper and stern, but he had never hit or scolded her and her sister. At most, he would just criticize them a little.
But this year, her father felt different.
He seemed to be becoming a bit of a “daughter-con,” showing a strong desire to control her. Behind his serious face, he also had the heart of a man who was afraid of his wife.
Before her father came back, An Han even thought her parents’ misunderstandings and arguments would eventually lead to divorce… but she didn’t expect that even though they hadn’t seen each other for a long time, the moment they met, it was like they were on a honeymoon again. After a few days of arguing, their relationship suddenly became peaceful again.
Being alone with her father was also much more comfortable than she imagined. At least as long as they didn’t talk about Su Peng…
An Han could clearly feel that the distance between her and her father had become smaller, or maybe her affection for him had grown just a little.
The next morning, An Han was woken by noise from the living room.
She blinked her eyes open in a daze, staring at the ceiling. She instinctively reached to the side.
She grabbed only empty space.
In the middle of winter, without a warm person in the bed, she felt a bit uncomfortable.
“Dad, what are you doing? Why are you so loud?” She shouted, then turned her head to look at the time on her phone. “It’s only six-thirty!”
“I’m going to the airport.”
“Huh?”
An Han instantly woke up. She rolled out of bed quickly, barefoot, and rushed to open her bedroom door.
Looking outside, she saw her father’s two huge suitcases had already been moved from the guest room to the shoe cabinet area, as if he was ready to leave any moment.
Her father had bought breakfast. The noise that woke her earlier was him opening and closing doors.
“Just in time. Let’s eat breakfast together.”
He pointed at the milk and pastries on the table and complained, “It’s so close to our hometown, yet they don’t even sell pot-edge pancakes here.”
An Han didn’t bother to put on shoes. The cold floor hurt her feet, so she quickly jumped onto the sofa and sat cross-legged, grabbing the breakfast.
Her father had slept in Su Peng’s room last night. He looked like he didn’t sleep well, his eyes were tired.
“Dad, what time is your flight?”
“Ten o’clock.”
“It’s only six-thirty…” She grumbled while taking a bite of bread. She held the bread in her mouth, took a sip of milk, waited for the milk to soften the bread, then swallowed. She continued, “Do you want Su Peng to drive us?”
“Didn’t he fight with his parents and run out of money?” Her father’s eyes lit up. “No need for him to drive. I can drive myself. Just ask him to give me the car keys.”
“……”
Only then did her father become curious and ask, “So why did he fight with his family?”
“They want him to study abroad…”
“As expected. And what will you do if he goes abroad?” Her father cut her off and shook his head. “Once he goes overseas, who knows what he’ll become when he comes back, human or ghost.”
He had spent many years abroad and had seen plenty of students who became worse while studying overseas.
An Han rolled her eyes silently. “He didn’t want to go, that’s why he argued with them.”
“Well… at least he has a conscience.”
Her father reluctantly gave Su Peng a tiny compliment.
“Now he hasn’t contacted his family at all. They’re not giving him any living expenses. But he works delivering food at the school cafeteria, and they give him meals. He even got a scholarship a few days ago, so he won’t starve.”
Her father looked at her suspiciously, staring up and down before finally speaking.
“He can get a scholarship?”
“He’s in the top three of his class, okay?”
After a short pause, An Han lifted her head. Her delicate little face was full of pitiful expression.
“Dad~”
“……”
“I only have a few hundred yuan left. I might not last until next month when you give me living expenses.”
Her father lowered his head and continued eating breakfast, acting like he had already expected this. He ignored An Han.
An Han frowned and checked with the system to make sure her father’s favorability toward her was still above ninety points. Only then did she feel relieved.
Looks like she didn’t try hard enough!
If she acted cute, cried a little, made trouble, or pretended to be pitiful, she could definitely get extra living expenses… but she was too embarrassed.
In her whole life, she had never acted cute toward any man except Su Peng!
“Alright, I’m leaving.”
Her father stood up, ready to head to the airport.
“Wait for me.” An Han quickly put down her milk and bread and followed him with quick little steps. “I need to change clothes, and I should brush my hair…”
“Go back to sleep. If you go, that brat will go too, and he’s annoying to look at.”
“Why would he go?”
“I don’t feel safe letting you come home alone.”
Her father put on his trench coat from the coat rack, wore his black hat, and opened the door.
He dragged his two suitcases. Just before stepping outside, he turned back and reminded her, “If Su Peng bullies you, call me.”
“I don’t even know your overseas phone number…”
“A WeChat call is fine too.”
“Okay.”
Her father stepped over the doorway, then looked back again. “Take care of yourself. Protect your body. Girls often suffer in relationships.”
“I know that…”
She did take good care of herself! She never let Su Peng touch her randomly!
One suitcase was already outside the door when her father turned back for the third time.
“Don’t believe all the sweet lies men tell. Nice words are easy. You need to look at his long-term actions.”
“I used to be a man too, you know…” An Han nodded helplessly.
“That’s why you’re too relaxed around men,” her father glared. “It didn’t even take long before you got hooked by one.”
No! That’s the system’s fault!
If she couldn’t smell Su Peng’s hormones, she would never like a man.
Girls are so much better!
She argued in her heart, but even she didn’t fully believe her excuse.
As her father finally walked out, An Han predicted in advance, “Dad, if you don’t leave now, you’ll talk to me until eight o’clock.”
Sure enough, her father immediately turned his head and stared at her in surprise. Then he awkwardly carried his suitcase down the stairs, mumbling, “Fine, we can talk on WeChat.”
After watching her father leave, An Han looked down at her pajamas and scratched her messy hair.
Once she saw her father walk out of the building, she quickly closed the door and ran back to her bedroom excitedly.
“Su Peng! Su Peng!”
She instantly messaged him on her phone.
As always, Su Peng replied fast. “What happened? I just woke up.”
“My dad left!”
“So can I come back now?” Su Peng sent a happy sticker.
While typing, An Han was already changing out of her pajamas.
“No. Go rent a car. We’re heading out right now. My dad is leaving and I haven’t messed with him even once. Too much of a loss!”
She could already imagine her dad seeing her at the airport. His shocked, scared, and touched expression!
Just thinking about it was fun! If she acted dramatic enough, maybe he would even cry because he didn’t want to leave her?
“He’s probably taking the airport shuttle bus. We can make it.”
Su Peng still sounded confused, but he soon understood what she wanted to do. “He didn’t let you send him off?”
“If he doesn’t let me, does that mean I won’t go? Hurry up!”
