Chapter 341: Departure
At the bus stop outside the Airport.
Her father got off the bus carrying two large suitcases, his steps heavy.
He stood still for a moment and checked the time. There were still about two and a half hours before the flight. Since there was plenty of time, his mind naturally drifted to his eldest daughter.
With how things were going with that brat Su Peng, by the time he came home next year, he might already be holding a grandchild.
He only hoped An Han would be smarter and not foolishly “give herself away.”
Her father shook his head and sighed helplessly.
He didn’t understand what exactly An Han liked about that boy. Sure, Su Peng was handsome, came from a good family, and had a good personality…
Worried, he looked in the direction of An Han’s school, then suddenly froze.
He stared blankly at the girl standing not far away, looking around as if searching for someone.
An Han?
Feeling someone staring at her, An Han quickly turned and spotted her father. Her eyes lit up, she raised her arm high and waved, then ran toward him.
“Dad!”
She jogged excitedly to him, her eyes constantly watching his expression, hoping to see shock, surprise, or even a touched look.
“I thought about it and decided I should come send you off!” she said with a bright smile, leaning closer. “Otherwise, if no one sends you off when you go overseas, that’s too sad.”
Her father lowered his head to look at her, his expression complicated.
“Aren’t you happy? I couldn’t sleep anyway. The moment you left, I quickly changed my clothes and ran out! Good thing you didn’t take a taxi, or I wouldn’t have caught up…”
An Han proudly praised herself.
“Did Su Peng bring you here?”
Her face froze. She quickly shook her head. “No, I came by taxi.”
Since her father was leaving soon, she didn’t want any more trouble because of Su Peng.
She purposely didn’t let Su Peng show up, afraid her father might be unhappy.
But her father saw through her stiff expression instantly. He looked around and said, “Call him out. I want to talk to him for a bit.”
“Again…?”
An Han realized her father only looked slightly surprised at first. He didn’t show any exaggerated reaction like she imagined, and he didn’t praise her for coming to send him off.
Feeling a little disappointed, her earlier excitement slowly faded. She unhappily took out her phone and called Su Peng.
A moment later, Su Peng came rushing over from a corner, looking slightly nervous.
Her father turned his head and looked at him for a moment. “Let’s go. Find a place to sit.”
“Dad, will you still have time to get on the plane?” she asked.
“I will.”
Su Peng quickly helped carry the two heavy suitcases. “Uncle, how about we check in your luggage first? And get the boarding pass?”
“That works.”
After getting permission, Su Peng busied himself running around for the father. It didn’t take long before everything was neatly done.
Her father had to admit, having such a capable future son-in-law didn’t seem too bad.
He immediately pushed this foolish idea down in his mind, keeping his face serious and stiff when dealing with Su Peng. Just like how An Han’s grandfather treated him during New Year visits.
With her grandfather as a “role model,” he knew exactly how to handle Su Peng.
The three of them found seats in the airport hall. Her father checked the time, quietly enjoying this last bit of time with his daughter this year.
If only that annoying Su Peng wasn’t here…
“I’ve never taken a plane before…” An Han couldn’t sit still as usual. She looked around the airport hall with curiosity, her eyes wandering over all the facilities and surroundings.
“What does it feel like? Will I get dizzy on the plane?”
“I heard airplanes are much less on time than high-speed trains? They get delayed a lot?”
“Dad, have you ever met the situation in the news where it’s almost time to board, but then they suddenly say there are no seats?”
“Do you still need to change planes?”
Her father patiently answered all of An Han’s questions, satisfying her curiosity.
But Su Peng was sitting there nervously, afraid something like yesterday would happen again, being suddenly blamed for something huge that he didn’t even do, and not being able to clear his name.
“Su Peng.”
He immediately sat up straight, looking serious. “Uncle, what is it?”
“This year… don’t let me hear any bad news.”
“Don’t worry!”
Su Peng could even hear the strong warning hidden in his future father-in-law’s tone.
“And about your family’s matter…”
He instantly replied, “I definitely won’t go abroad. Don’t worry. For An Han, I’ll argue with my parents to the end. I won’t give in!”
This was something An Han and Su Peng already talked through, and her father also didn’t like the idea of Su Peng going abroad.
But her father suddenly changed his attitude, putting on the face of ‘I’m doing this for your own good’, and tried to persuade him with a serious and caring tone.
“Actually, going abroad to study is very good for you. I heard it’s a very good university, right? Why fight with your family? It will hurt your relationship and also your future…”
Her father looked at Su Peng with a bit of hope.
If this guy also went abroad, at least An Han would be safe in this country.
But Su Peng froze for a moment, then quickly understood.
“I’m doing this for An Han,” he said confidently. “If I go study abroad, what will happen to her?”
“You sure know how to say sweet things~”
An Han frowned a little, exposing him, but her tone clearly sounded happy.
Her father let out a cold snort and didn’t continue.
This brat’s sweet talk is only useful for fooling girls.
He stood up. “I’m going to the waiting area. You two go back.”
“So fast?”
“I should go in early, just in case something unexpected happens.”
An Han quickly followed him. “Message me on WeChat when you have time~”
“Okay.” Her father walked into the security line and nodded at her with a blank face.
Then he saw An Han turn around and run loudly and excitedly toward Su Peng again. His heart hurt for a moment.
“Dad! We’re leaving!”
He didn’t even want to answer her. With a dead-tired mood, he sighed again.
His daughter really stuck to Su Peng completely. No matter how much he opposed or acted cold, it didn’t work at all. It felt just like when he himself got married back then… He finally understood how her grandfather felt back then.
Meanwhile, An Han and Su Peng had already left the airport hall and reached the parking lot.
She sat inside a small shared electric car, looking out the window at the sky.
“What’s wrong? You miss your dad?”
“It’s okay,” An Han muttered while looking at the bright blue, almost cloudless sky. “Before, I actually never really felt like I had a dad. It felt like a single-parent family… He didn’t even come home once a year, and even when he did, I couldn’t be bothered to talk to him. We weren’t close.”
“When other people got bullied, their dads would show up to help them. But when I got bullied, nobody cared…”
Su Peng started the car and drove slowly out of the parking lot. “And now?”
“Now… he’s really annoying. Controlling this and controlling that.”
She complained, but she also laughed. She moved her eyes from the sky to Su Peng and teased him. “You promised my dad, okay? You’re not allowed to touch me!”
“Isn’t it always you who touches me? Oh right, about the ‘compensation’ you promised…”
