Chapter 349: Are You a Masochist?!
Work didn’t seem as good as he imagined.
He had to wake up at six in the morning, take a two-hour bus ride, reach the company at eight-thirty, finish work at six in the evening, and by the time he returned to the apartment, it was already eight-thirty at night.
Su Peng stood in the hallway with a tired face. He rubbed his cheeks with both hands to bring back his usual gentle smile.
The whole day he didn’t do anything. His supervisor didn’t give him any tasks and only told him to follow coworkers and learn. So he just sat at his desk the entire day, looking at the screens of coworkers around him, but doing nothing himself.
He had no friends to talk to. Since it was his first day, he didn’t dare to play on his phone… After one whole day like this, he strongly wanted to quit.
Delivery work was even better. At least when delivering food, he knew what to do, and being busy made time pass faster.
Su Peng fixed his messy clothes from the crowded bus, straightened his back, and opened the door.
Almost the moment the door opened, he heard hurried footsteps inside, followed by a surprised and happy shout.
“Su Peng! You’re back!”
“Yeah!”
He looked up and saw An Han standing inside with a bright smile, her eyes full of excitement.
Su Peng smiled and handed her the snacks he bought on the way. “I got you shrimp cakes and oyster cakes, but they’re probably cold now.”
“It’s fine!”
She quickly grabbed the bag, opened it, and her smile faded a little. “This oyster cake is not the same as the ones from my hometown.”
“Different?”
“Mm, I haven’t eaten this kind before either. I’ll try it later.”
She put the snacks on the shoe cabinet, took Su Peng’s jacket and hung it on the rack. Coming closer, the little disappointment disappeared and she asked with a sweet smile, “How was your first day at work?”
“It was pretty good. The coworkers are easy to talk to. They taught me a lot.”
Su Peng took off his shoes and socks and walked inside. “But I’m really tired. The commute is especially tiring. It takes four hours total every day.”
“The commute is really far…” An Han muttered.
She bent down to pick up the socks he casually threw and held them with two fingers, a disgusted look on her face. “Can you stop throwing your socks everywhere? I have to look all over the place when I do laundry.”
“I can wash my own underwear and socks.”
The apartment had a washing machine, but she didn’t like washing underwear and socks together with clothes, so she preferred washing them by hand.
An Han tossed Su Peng’s socks into the washing sink on the balcony, then hurried back and jumped onto the sofa.
She crawled closer to Su Peng on the sofa, sticking her butt up as she extended her head forward. “I want to invite Lin Yi and An Kexin to go hiking this weekend. What do you think?”
“Hiking?”
Su Peng paused and looked at her eager face. Not understanding what she meant, he nodded slowly. “How about I go with you?”
“Aren’t you working?”
“I work only four days a week. I can move my weekend shift to a class day. I’ll only skip one class.”
He realized something was off with An Han.
She wasn’t extremely antisocial, but she never wanted to go hiking, even when people invited her.
“Why do you suddenly want to hike?”
An Han instantly changed her expression, turning into a gloomy storm cloud as she complained, “If you don’t come to class, I have zero friends in class.”
“I saw Lin Yi seems to like going out a lot. Her Moments are full of scenery photos, so I thought of asking her to go hiking.”
She sighed softly and sat back down on her legs.
Su Peng almost laughed. “Long Xing and Junjie don’t talk to you?”
“If I hang out with guys, won’t you get jealous?” An Han rolled her eyes at him, stretched lazily, and asked, “Have you eaten? I’ll cook something for you.”
“Not yet.”
Money was tight now. On school days they could eat in the cafeteria, but ordering takeout on weekends was too expensive, so they kept some ingredients in the fridge. An Han had also stopped watching game guides and instead watched cooking videos. Instead of game clips, her Bilibili recommendations were now all cooking videos.
But cooking at home seemed even more expensive than ordering food.
An Han walked to the kitchen, took the apron hanging on the wall, and turned her head to talk to Su Peng who was following behind her.
“You should eat something outside before you come back. It’s already past eight.”
“I’m not very hungry. The company has snacks.”
“That’s so nice~”
She muttered as she opened the fridge, checking the ingredients left and thinking about what she should cook for Su Peng.
“When spring recruitment starts, I’ll also go find an internship. I’ll print a big stack of resumes and send one to every company. At least one of them will want me.”
“Can you keep up with your schoolwork?”
“It’s fine. I can copy your answers in the final exam anyway.”
Not only had Su Peng started his internship, even Wang Sheng planned to find one in a month or two. Long Xing and Chen Junjie, however, were basically like lazy salted fish. One was chasing a girl he liked, and the other went out with his girlfriend every day. These two skipped classes from time to time.
Su Peng stopped at the kitchen entrance, watching An Han starting to cook inside.
The tired feeling in his body and mind slowly faded away as he stayed with her. The smile he had been pretending all day became more real, and his eyes grew softer when he looked at her.
An Han seemed to notice something different in his gaze. She raised her head in confusion and met his eyes.
“What’s wrong? You’re acting strange today.”
“It’s nothing.”
“It feels like your job isn’t as easy as you said…”
Su Peng didn’t understand why his girlfriend was this sensitive about everything.
“Tomato and egg noodles okay? Want me to add vinegar?”
“No need.”
“I’ll add some shredded meat for you too~”
Although almost no one talked to An Han in class today, which made her feel a bit down, her mood had already gotten better now. She even hummed a song she had been listening to recently.
Even though it was just a light hum, her voice training made it sound very pleasant.
“Are you going to sleep right after dinner?”
“Mm.”
“Then help warm my feet tonight?”
Su Peng’s eyes lit up, and he happily accepted her invitation.
“But can you go wash your feet first…” An Han suddenly looked at him with a face full of disgust. “They smell. You didn’t notice after half a day?”
Su Peng froze, didn’t argue, and quickly walked toward the bathroom. “Then I’ll take a shower too.”
“Use less water! Otherwise I’ll have to wait forever for the heater to reheat.”
She put the lid on the pot and followed him, complaining nonstop.
“Can’t you sit down when you use the toilet? You always splash everywhere.”
“I really want to see how you manage that! I have to clean it every time.”
“And can you drain the water after washing your face? What, saving water for mosquitoes? And your towel, can’t you wring it dry? It just drips there…”
Su Peng sped up as if something was chasing him, then suddenly rushed into the bathroom.
But An Han didn’t let up. She stood at the door knocking loudly, shouting, “You have to change! What’s the point of hiding? Who does that? I’ve wanted to tell you this for a long time!”
“Okay, okay! Bring me a set of pajamas!”
[Su Peng’s affection +1]
An Han was about to get his pajamas, but the moment she stepped out, she froze.
She looked toward the bathroom in disbelief.
“Su Peng… are you a masochist or something?”
Who gets scolded like that and doesn’t get annoyed? He even increased affection?
Are you trying to mess with my mood on purpose!?
