Chapter 355: Dramatic Trouble

When school ended in the evening, An Han did not go straight back to the rented apartment. Instead, she leaned against the bus stop sign with a lifeless expression, waiting for Su Peng to finish work.

It was too difficult for her to face his father and mother alone again, so Su Peng took two hours off to get off work early and face them together with her.

She let out a small sigh, leaning on the bus stop advertisement board, staring hopefully at the end of the road.

During class that afternoon, she had already interrogated Wu Dongming. Just as she expected, Su Peng’s parents were brought there by that traitor!

Wu Dongming didn’t know Su Peng was arguing with his family and didn’t know anything about the situation. When they asked him for the address, he answered without hesitation.

“That idiot.”

An Han muttered. Her relationship with Wu Dongming had become a bit distant now, so she couldn’t joke around like before. Any ideas she had about getting revenge could only stay as ideas.

A bus approached and stopped in front of the station.

She immediately threw aside everything about Wu Dongming and ran forward, stretching her neck to look at the people getting off.

“Su Peng!”

As expected, she saw him squeezed among the crowd, trying his best to move toward the back door.

The bus was packed like a can of sardines. Usually, Su Peng dressed neatly and looked clean, but right now he looked messy and tired, sweat on his forehead. He pushed his way through the crowd and jumped off the back door right before the bus started moving again.

He took a deep breath, wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand, then smiled and pulled a still-warm egg burger out of his pocket.

“This egg burger shop is right downstairs from my office. My coworkers say it’s really good, so I bought one for you.”

“Mm!”

An Han took the food but started looking up and down at his face.

“What?”

“I really can’t tell~ You were actually a fat guy before~” She stared at his handsome face with surprise. “I really can’t imagine what you looked like when you were a hundred kilos.”

Su Peng paused for a moment, then scratched his head awkwardly. “I can’t believe my mom told you everything.”

“She even said you wore high heels when you were little and broke a bone.”

An Han leaned closer with a mischievous smile and poked his waist with her elbow. “Do you have photos? I want to see how fat you used to be.”

“I should… have some…”

“Hurry, hurry!”

Su Peng helplessly started searching his phone gallery, while An Han leaned close to peek, wanting to check his gallery’s secrets too.

There wasn’t anything surprising. Mostly some lewd images, memes, screenshots, some photos of classmates he took, his selfies, and photos of her.

“You actually took photos of me secretly!”

“I took them openly. You were just spaced out and didn’t notice.”

“These look pretty good~ Don’t you dare post them online or show them to anyone.”

“I know.”

With their heads almost touching, the two of them looked through his photos while walking toward the rented apartment.

An Han was excitedly scrolling through the gallery, but suddenly an image of a fat guy popped into her mind.

Then she remembered, her grandpa also knew someone with the same name as Su Peng, who was also fat, and had even shown her the photo before.

Could it really be the same person?

“Su Peng, you don’t know my grandpa, right? Do you have relatives around my hometown?”

“I don’t. None.” Su Peng answered just as he found a photo from his high school days. “Here, look. After you see it, I’ll delete it.”

“Why delete it?”

It was a group photo of the high school basketball team. Su Peng stood in the back row holding a basketball. He was not the cute chubby boy she imagined, but big and strong, like a bear.

She looked at that bear in the photo, then looked up at the gentle, refined young man beside her, and several question marks popped up in her head.

“They don’t even look like the same person…”

Su Peng quietly shrugged his shoulders, but then he noticed that An Han had stopped walking while staring at the photo.

“What’s wrong?”

“It really is you…”

She was now sure, the Su Peng her grandpa knew long ago was actually her own boyfriend.

An Han tried hard to recall the chubby boy she once saw in her grandpa’s phone. Comparing that memory with the strong “bear” in the group photo, she didn’t know whether to complain or be amazed.

“My grandpa has your old photos on his phone.”

Su Peng froze.

“Maybe those were from your middle school days? You didn’t look as strong as in this photo.”

He scratched his head in confusion. “Really? What a coincidence?”

“This is too dramatic~”

An Han couldn’t hold back and complained, “Just like those cheap drama plots in bad Chinese movies. Maybe we even have some blood relation. What if we turn out to be cousins or even—”

Once she started joking, her imagination ran wild.

“And then our parents separate us by force, I get into a car accident and lose my memory, and we go through life-and-death tragedy…”

Su Peng almost burst out laughing. He lightly tapped her head. “What are you thinking about?”

“It hurts!”

An Han held her head and glared at him.

“I didn’t even use strength.”

They arrived at the door of the rented apartment. Just moments earlier they were still joking, but now both of them went quiet.

An Han had no idea how to treat his father and mother. Su Peng had been fighting with his family and didn’t know how to face them either.

While they hesitated, the door suddenly opened.

Auntie stood there with a friendly smile. “Come in, why are you standing outside?”

“Hello, Auntie~” An Han put on her polite and mature image again.

“Mom…”

“I’ve already made dinner.” Auntie smiled and welcomed them in. As An Han walked past her, she even reached out to rub her head. “Go try Auntie’s cooking and see if it suits your taste.”

“Mm…”

Stiff and nervous, An Han walked into the living room carefully and sat on a small stool near the table.

Four dishes and one soup were already set on the table. Uncle was sitting nearby, sipping white liquor and watching TV. When he noticed Su Peng come in, his face instantly darkened like a chunk of charcoal.

Last time Su Peng went home, he almost got into a fight with Uncle. Would something bad happen again this time?

She looked at Su Peng and Auntie approaching the table, then turned her eyes toward Uncle…

The atmosphere was stiff. Su Peng didn’t look good either. Auntie was clearly trying to play the peacemaker, the “good cop.” She kept a gentle smile the whole time.

After everyone sat down, the mood became even heavier.

Only Auntie kept picking food for Su Peng and An Han, enthusiastically urging them to eat. But Uncle and Su Peng stayed silent, not even looking at each other.

“Um…”

Suddenly, An Han spoke up, “Auntie, Uncle… do you know my grandpa?”

She thought she needed something to break the awkward atmosphere, and this was also something she personally cared about.

Seeing both of them look toward her, she pressed her lips together and said softly, “My grandpa’s name is Wu Jianguo… I saw Su Peng’s old photos in his phone before.”

Uncle looked confused, frowning slightly, not understanding.

“He’s from Changle, named Wu Jianguo, in his seventies…” She added a few key details.

Uncle’s expression slowly loosened, and he suddenly understood. “Oh, he should be one of my dad’s old army buddies. I’ll call and check if his name was Wu Jianguo.”

“Huh?”

So it wasn’t her grandpa’s relative, it was Su Peng’s grandpa’s friend?

Good… at least there was no blood relation…
