Chapter 361: Working Overtime
It was already late at night.
An Han curled up on the sofa with her legs pulled close, frowning tightly. She held her phone nervously and kept looking toward the door or out the window.
Outside, the sky was completely dark. There were no stars or moon to be seen.
“It’s already ten o’clock.”
Tomorrow would be the weekend. After school, An Han went straight into the kitchen and worked hard, making a whole table of dishes based on Su Peng’s tastes and favorite foods. She wanted to give him a surprise. But right after she finished cooking, she learned that Su Peng was working overtime today.
The food on the table had already gone cold. With a hopeless look on her face, she leaned sideways and lay on the sofa.
Some messy strands of hair covered her eyes, but she didn’t bother to push them away. She continued staring blankly at the door.
“Ah~ he said he wouldn’t work overtime…”
An Han knew about the company benefits at Su Peng’s workplace. At least on the job posting, it said interns only worked four days a week, eight hours a day, with no overtime.
With nothing else to do, she checked her delivery information on her phone. The three packages were women’s clothes she bought for Wu Dongming, and they would probably arrive around noon tomorrow.
Just imagining Wu Dongming’s reaction when he saw the women’s clothes and the embarrassed look when he wore them, made her feel happy.
But then she sighed again. Her mind couldn’t stop worrying about Su Peng’s safety.
Even though she knew that with Su Peng’s height and strength, nothing dangerous should happen.
“My stomach is hungry…”
Holding her stomach with both hands, she remembered she only tasted a little bit of the dishes while cooking to check the flavor, and since she came home, she only drank one bottle of sugar-free cola.
She couldn’t take it anymore and took out her phone to call Su Peng.
The call connected almost instantly. An Han quickly asked, “Hello? Are you off work now?”
“……”
“Why aren’t you talking?”
She asked again, anxious and worried, “What time will you get home?”
“Around eleven.”
Su Peng’s voice was hoarse and low, sounding very tired.
“The buses have probably stopped, right? Hurry and take a taxi home. It’s already past ten.”
“Okay.”
An Han could hear his slightly fast breathing through the phone. She paused for a moment, then carefully asked, “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. The car is here, I’m hanging up.”
“Okay~”
Looks like he just got off work.
An Han put her phone on the table, got up, and walked to the bedroom to take a shower first.
She took out her pajama shirt from the wardrobe, but before leaving, she suddenly turned her head and looked at a drawer with hesitation.
A moment later, she crouched down and took out a pair of tight cotton shorts.
After taking a slow shower, An Han put on the little shorts, then quickly curled up on the sofa and covered herself with a small blanket.
Even though the weather was getting warmer, the shorts only covered her bottom, leaving most of her legs exposed, so she still felt cold.
The white shirt she wore on top was very loose, covering most of her hips and only showing the edge of the shorts. It made her look like she was wearing a very short, oversized one-piece dress.
During the call, Su Peng’s tone didn’t sound good. Maybe dressing a bit prettier could make him happier.
Around a little past eleven, the smart lock made a soft “beep.”
An Han jumped up from the sofa and ran to the door with quick little steps. Her slightly red face peeked out from the door crack as she looked at Su Peng taking off his shoes outside.
“So late~”
“Meeting, overtime. I was busy until almost ten.”
Su Peng spoke calmly. He lifted his head with his usual gentle smile. “Why are you wearing so little? Aren’t you afraid of catching a cold?”
“I’m afraid of heat!”
Even though she said she was afraid of heat, her legs were tightly pressed together and trembling slightly from the cold.
She reached out to take Su Peng’s coat and excitedly pointed at the table. “Did you eat dinner? I made a lot for you!”
“I already ate.”
“Eh?”
“But I’m hungry again, so it’s perfect for a late-night meal.”
Su Peng entered the house, put on the blue house slippers, glanced at An Han's legs which were already covered in goosebumps, and quickly closed the door.
Without the cold night wind from the hallway blowing inside, An Han clearly felt much more comfortable. She cheerfully grabbed Su Peng’s hand and pulled him toward the table. “Come try it! See if it tastes real and proper!”
Her cooking skills were average. Normally, Su Peng could eat it, but he obviously didn’t enjoy it. Since her skills couldn’t improve quickly, she simply tried making foods he already liked.
“Oh right, I should heat it up first.”
When they reached the table, An Han suddenly realized the dishes were completely cold. Some food with gelatin had even hardened. She quickly grabbed the plates and ran into the kitchen.
“Be careful,” Su Peng reminded her when he saw how flustered she was.
“You sit down and rest first!”
Su Peng sat obediently on the sofa. Watching those long pale legs move back and forth in front of him, he felt his exhaustion from overtime slowly fade.
As he watched her busy movements, his nose suddenly felt sore. He took a few deep breaths before managing to keep his gentle smile.
“Su Peng!”
“Hm?”
While the microwave was running, An Han ran back to the living room, jumped onto the sofa, and sat facing him in a duck-sitting pose. Leaning forward slightly with her hands on the sofa, she stared at him with bright eyes.
“What are you doing?” Su Peng leaned back instinctively.
“You won’t always work overtime in the future, right?”
“Probably not.”
An Han frowned and muttered unhappily, “Didn’t the job posting say no overtime?”
“They say one thing and do another. My company is like that when they hire too.”
“Then…”
She froze for a second, then rolled her eyes at him. “If they make you work overtime again, just quit. Who can stand working overtime every day?”
“We’ll see.”
“We’re not that short on money now.” She pouted and looked at her bank balance on her phone. She was about to show off her savings when her stomach suddenly growled loudly like thunder.
Her face instantly turned red. She covered her stomach and looked up carefully, afraid Su Peng would laugh at her.
“You didn’t eat dinner?”
“I ate a little. I was waiting for you. I don’t have class tomorrow anyway.”
An Han watched Su Peng’s expression closely. If this guy dared to laugh, she would slap the back of his head in one second.
But the longer she looked, the more she noticed the corners of Su Peng’s eyes were a bit red.
“Eh? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
An Han leaned closer and playfully nudged him with her shoulder. “What, the rich young master can’t handle the pain of working overtime for the first time?”
“……”
“Or did your boss yell at you?” She made an angry face and waved her hands like claws. “Tomorrow we’ll go to his office and throw the resignation letter in his face!”
“……”
She tried hard to make him laugh, but since he didn’t react at all, she closed her mouth and tilted her head, quietly looking at him.
A faint blush slowly spread across her cheeks. She pressed her lips together, hesitated, then lifted her hips and leaned forward to pull Su Peng’s head into her arms.
Su Peng instinctively tried to pull away a little.
“Alright, alright~ I’m not very good at comforting people…”
“I saw in anime that they do this. Does it help a little?”
“But can your thing please… not poke me while I’m trying to comfort you?”
