Volume 1 Chapter 106: What If the Delivered Goods Are Not What Was Ordered
After finally reaching the thirteenth floor, the scene before Bai Muxue changed once again.
If the previous floors only carried a strange and unsettling silence without anything truly unusual appearing, then this floor was much colder and darker. A rotten stench drifted into her nose, making her instinctively frown.
Previously, Bai Muxue had relied on her flashlight to see the surroundings. But by coincidence, she touched a light switch on the wall.
She originally thought the lights here could not possibly still work...
Yet after pressing the switch, the lights above her flickered several times before unexpectedly turning on.
Well, at least this is more convenient than a flashlight... tch, how did I not notice the switch earlier?
Bai Muxue quietly clicked her tongue. Facing the rotten smell filling the air, she also stopped joking around internally and began searching more carefully.
She cautiously moved through the complicated maze-like hallway until she arrived at the deepest room.
Outside the room stood a locked iron door. The rusty lock was covered in corrosion, and from behind the door came an unbearable damp, rotten smell, as though something inside had been decaying for a very long time.
Beside the iron door was the abandoned elevator door.
Bai Muxue did not approach the iron door immediately. Instead, she walked toward the elevator and crouched down to inspect it carefully.
There was a faint but sharp smell mixed with rust. It smelled somewhat similar to the odor coming from the iron door, though slightly different in a strange way...
Bai Muxue frowned slightly and shined her flashlight through the crack in the elevator door, carefully staring at the corners touched by the beam of light.
The light passed through the narrow gap and illuminated part of the inside of the elevator.
There were dried bloodstains faintly visible on the walls.
Rotten scraps of clothing were scattered across the floor, their original colors already faded into darkness.
And taking up most of the elevator’s space...
was a pile of twisted corpses with different body shapes and horrifying postures.
The bodies had clearly been there for a very long time. Their clothes were already torn beyond recognition, making it impossible to tell what they originally looked like.
Some metal accessories, such as rings and watches, still remained attached to broken limbs, though they too were covered in thick dust.
Damn it!
As if realizing something, Bai Muxue’s eyes suddenly widened.
Someone was using the elevator to transport... corpses!?
The scene before her was simply too horrifying.
Even though she had seen many terrible sights after disasters during her time working at the Disaster Management Bureau, the visual shock she felt now was far stronger.
A powerful wave of nausea instantly rose in her stomach. Bai Muxue quickly covered her mouth, and her already pale face became frighteningly white.
At the same time, one of the few questions remaining in her mind was finally answered.
No wonder the upper floors of the building were covered in dust and looked completely abandoned...
Because the person involved never actually needed to climb all the way up here.
They only needed to stay on the lower floors and make sure the corpses were successfully sent upstairs through the elevator.
“Calm down... calm down, Bai Muxue. You’re an adult already. Isn’t this exactly why you came here in the first place? What’s the big deal...”
Bai Muxue shakily stood back up, patting her chest while repeatedly speaking to herself in her heart.
No matter how calm and relaxed she usually appeared in front of Amber, Shen Jingyi, and the others...
And no matter how Dian and Heidi saw her, as some unreasonable, bloodthirsty madwoman...
But no matter how much she pretended...
Deep inside, she was still the same middle-aged office worker who only wanted a peaceful life. When such horrifying and cruel scenes appeared right in front of her eyes, she would still feel shocked and frightened.
But...
Things were different now.
In the past, she could only scream and run away from situations like this. But now, she was no longer a powerless bystander who could only escape.
Now, she could step directly onto the chessboard, drag out the mastermind behind everything, and make that person experience what true cruelty really meant.
Amber had gone through things like this.
Shen Jingyi had gone through them too.
If those young girls could endure it, why couldn’t she?
Thinking of this, Bai Muxue wiped the corner of her mouth, forcefully suppressing the uneasiness rising inside her heart. A sharp light flashed through her eyes.
She took a deep breath of the unpleasant air and slowly approached the iron door.
Although the smell was just as strong, it did not smell like corpses...
Instead, it smelled like something even more disgusting.
Liu Li had intentionally hidden whatever existed behind this door, but why had she hired people to transport corpses up here?
Was there some necessary connection between the corpses and whatever was behind the door?
And what exactly was hiding behind it...?
Perhaps because she wanted to distract herself from the discomfort in her heart, the girl slowly became lost in thought.
So lost, in fact, that she almost forgot. The place she stood in now was absolutely not somewhere safe enough to lower her guard.
“ROAR—!”
Along with a sharp and horrifying scream, a terrifying black shadow suddenly burst out from the doorway in the blink of an eye and lunged directly toward Bai Muxue.
Countless afterimages flashed through the cold air.
Bai Muxue had made a mistake.
She had not even checked the condition of the lock before naturally assuming the iron door was securely locked.
And that mistake was about to cost the careless girl dearly.
The disgusting, wet roar echoed throughout the building.
Bai Muxue had not even fully reacted yet—
“What are you spacing out for in a place like this, you idiot?! Are you trying to die?!”
A hurried and rapid voice suddenly rang out beside Bai Muxue’s ear.
A pretty figure wearing a cowboy hat suddenly appeared in front of her. Then, without hesitation, the girl shoved Bai Muxue away.
Hit by the full force of the push, Bai Muxue felt a powerful impact at her waist. Her small body flew backward diagonally like a leaking balloon.
Her ink-black hair fluttered wildly in the air.
Everything happened far too quickly. Unable to transform, Bai Muxue had not even caught up with the situation yet.
She blinked blankly in confusion and let out a short sound of surprise.
“Eh?”
But before she could say anything else, another deafening roar interrupted her.
The girl in front of her waved her hand without even turning around. A lump of white cotton-like material flew straight toward Bai Muxue, rapidly expanding in size before wrapping around her securely.
Only then did it stop her from crashing hard onto the ground.
Th-This is cotton candy...?
This ability is...
Struggling to stand up from inside the cotton candy, Bai Muxue finally regained the ability to think clearly.
“Amber??”
