Chapter 78: The Study Room
In the end, Mu Yi stepped forward and chose to introduce herself.
There was no special reason. It was simply because Gu Zhiren hated lying. If she asked him to introduce her, it would basically force him to lie, and she could not do something like that.
After all, she was his childhood friend and also the only person he truly opened his heart to.
After exchanging some polite greetings with Mr. and Mrs. Gu, the conversation did not last very long. Mu Yi then followed Gu Zhiren upstairs, and soon they arrived at a room on the third floor.
The wooden door opened.
The first thing she saw was bookshelves filled with books and a clean desk.
Without needing Gu Zhiren to explain, she could tell at a glance that this was his study room.
Her eyes slowly moved around the room.
In an instant, her attention was caught by a book on the shelf called No Longer Human.
Just as she was about to walk toward it, Gu Zhiren suddenly spoke.
“Before I come back...”
“You want me to stay here quietly and wait for you until you come back?” Mu Yi tilted her head and pouted slightly.
“Mm... that’s right.”
Gu Zhiren looked at the girl beside him, and a happy smile naturally appeared on his face.
The loose white sweater made her look small and delicate. The red scarf hanging loosely around her neck looked several times bigger than her head, and her snow-white hair curved softly at the ends.
Although her body looked petite, the curves on her chest were impossible to ignore. They clearly looked heavy.
Today, this little cat somehow gave off a bit of a... girlfriend feeling.
“What now? You’re smiling while looking at me again. You really are weird, you know that?”
Mu Yi lowered her eyes slightly and shook her head helplessly.
“Even though I said that, I’m not curious about why you’re smiling, okay? So you don’t need to explain. Alright, alright, hurry up and go to your company.”
After softly urging him a few times, Mu Yi placed the bag of clothes she was holding onto the chair by the desk, then turned and walked toward the bookshelf.
She stretched out her arm and stood on tiptoe.
Her pale fingers reached upward again and again, but no matter what, she could not reach the book she wanted.
Meanwhile, Gu Zhiren clearly did not want to leave.
In the past, company work had never made him feel tired or bored.
Rather, he enjoyed defeating others in the business world. He loved standing at the top, waiting for others to challenge him, and constantly competing against people.
He never felt tired at all. It was as if he had endless energy.
He often worked so much that he forgot to eat, yet he still enjoyed it willingly.
But now, for the first time, he felt just a tiny bit unhappy about going to the company.
Maybe it was because once he went there, he would not be able to see the little cat at home for a while.
If only there were some way for him to still see her while at work...
Thinking of this, Gu Zhiren looked at Mu Yi, who still could not reach the book, and his expression slowly became a little strange.
“Can’t reach it? Need help?”
Gu Zhiren tilted his head slightly, looking both expectant and a little mischievous.
Hearing this, Mu Yi puffed up her cheeks unhappily and half-closed her eyes as she glanced toward him behind her.
“If you want to help, just say it directly. Hurry over here, I can’t reach it.”
“That attitude doesn’t really sound like someone asking for help. If it were another person, they might just ignore you~”
As he spoke, Gu Zhiren frowned slightly, but the smile and gentleness in his eyes could not be hidden. He walked forward, turned sideways a little, and easily took the book down with two fingers.
“Thanks, give it to me.”
Mu Yi stepped half a step to the side, increasing the distance between them.
“Mm...”
Gu Zhiren noticed her stepping back, but instead of mentioning it directly, he stayed quiet for a moment. Then he deliberately raised the book a little higher, just enough that she could not reach it.
“What are you doing?!”
Mu Yi was about to explode in anger. He was acting so strangely. He helped take the book down but then would not give it to her. Was this really fun for him?
“If I remember correctly, the male and female leads in your light novel are about to officially become a couple, right?”
Gu Zhiren looked at Mu Yi a few times, smiling so much that his eyes narrowed, but he still handed the book to her before changing the topic.
“Yeah, the story is almost finished too. For this kind of school romance novel, once the two main characters become a couple, the story should usually end. Though some authors keep dragging it on all the way into married life.”
Mu Yi took the book and casually flipped through a few pages. As she spoke, she turned and walked toward the chair, wanting to sit down and read.
“Mhm.”
Gu Zhiren nodded.
“So then... do you know what a girlfriend should do when her boyfriend is about to leave for work?”
Hearing that, Mu Yi suddenly stopped walking. She immediately turned back, raised her small face, and looked at Gu Zhiren strangely a few times. She looked like she wanted to speak but hesitated.
“You want to know whether I know? Then call me Brother Mu, and I’ll tell you whether I know or not.”
Mu Yi noticed that he was clearly planning something mischievous, so she tilted her head and replied like that.
“Brother Mu.”
Gu Zhiren answered without any hesitation.
“......”
Mu Yi pressed her lips together.
She closed her eyes and adjusted her emotions while hugging the book tighter in her arms.
Then she slowly opened her eyes again. Her soft lips parted slightly as she breathed out warm air. Her crimson eyes blinked gently, and a sweet, soft smile appeared on her fair face.
“Hurry and go to work. I’ll wait for you at home, and I’ll even prepare your bath water and cook dinner for you~”
“Looks like you really do understand.”
Gu Zhiren smiled in satisfaction. He did not stay any longer after that. After reminding her about a few things, he left the study room.
………………
As soon as the owner of the room left, Mu Yi sat on the chair and leisurely read for a while. But when she accidentally glanced at the wooden door of the study, she suddenly remembered what had just happened.
Why did he suddenly ask her that kind of question for no reason?
Mu Yi immediately became alert.
But maybe there was another possibility. Maybe he only wanted to test how much common knowledge she had?
No matter how she thought about it, he really had a bad sense of humor!
Glancing at the bag holding the nun outfit, Mu Yi still found it hard to accept that the little chubby boy from her memories, who used to be like an angel, had grown into this kind of person.
This must be what people meant by “growing up wrong.”
Ugh!
Mu Yi shook her head with dislike.
But when she remembered the praise and smile Gu Zhiren gave her before leaving, she could not help covering half her face with the book while her bright eyes curved into crescent moons.
She happily continued reading for a while.
Since there was still plenty of time, after finishing the book, she took out her phone and wrote her own novel for a bit.
She was writing a light novel.
Not long after she started, the story reached the part where Huo Qiu brought Bai Qiu to a clothing store to shop. The relationship between the two main characters had already become very close.
They only needed one final push before officially becoming a couple.
But as she kept writing, a deep feeling of embarrassment quietly rose in her heart.
She remembered how, when she walked out of the fitting room wearing the nun outfit, people’s gazes had been so intense. Especially some of the men’s looks, they were extremely direct.
It felt like goblins seeing a woman, full of unpleasant greed.
On the outside, she stayed calm and steady, but inside, she was panicking badly.
Especially when Gu Zhiren suddenly walked toward her step by step, forcing her back toward the fitting room.
Mu Yi felt like her heart was about to explode.
She even had the strange illusion that he would walk straight into the fitting room, pull the curtain shut, impatiently pin her against the wall, and cover her mouth.
Then completely devour her.
Thankfully, none of that happened. Gu Zhiren only stopped outside the fitting room.
