Volume 4 Chapter 45: The Assistant’s Flattery
The two girls rode their electric scooters all the way there. Very soon, Lin Lin and Gao Ye arrived at the comic convention.
They had already bought their tickets in advance, so they could go straight inside.
There were already quite a lot of people inside the convention hall. But since the event had just started, most people were still getting ready.
The first thing Lin Lin and Gao Ye did after arriving was to look for Du Wenmei. After finding Sister Wenmei, they went backstage to prepare.
Actually, besides Lin Lin and Gao Ye, there was another person who had also come to the convention.
Yi Xiao.
She looked at Ari-chan’s recent social media posts on her phone, then looked up at the name of the convention center. She kept checking back and forth to make sure she had the right place.
Next to her stood a tall, thin young man wearing gold-rimmed glasses. Seeing her like this, he smiled and read out loud.
“Huadu City Exhibition Center. Can’t see clearly with your sunglasses on? I’ll read it for you, Xiao Xiao.”
“Do you think I’m blind…?”
Compared to his playful tone, Yi Xiao did not look pleased. She frowned and said,
“Luo Xiangrong, remember this clearly. You’re just my assistant. Don’t you know how to speak properly? Don’t use that kind of tone with me!”
“Yes… Miss.”
Luo Xiangrong nodded helplessly. He took off his gold-rimmed glasses and wiped them elegantly with a handkerchief. Yi Xiao looked at his suit, gloves, and yellow middle-parted hair. The more she looked at him, the more annoyed she felt.
Seriously, he tried to look elegant, but somehow still looked like a low-level thug.
She had always been unhappy with this assistant. Unfortunately, her family trusted him, which made her even more upset.
Recently, nothing had been going well for Yi Xiao, so she had no patience for her assistant. As for Luo Xiangrong, he seemed to go along with her and avoided arguing directly.
Today, the big star was dressed very tightly again. With this outfit, even her biggest fans probably would not recognize her.
Yi Xiao never liked running into fans. She simply could not deal with the current fan culture in the entertainment world. Many fans made her feel uncomfortable. Their extreme idol worship made her feel that she could not handle it.
But at the same time, those fans were also the reason she had her current success. Without them, she would not be where she was today.
She had complicated feelings about them. On one hand, she enjoyed their praise. On the other hand, she was afraid they might cause trouble for her or disturb her normal life. Yet she also had to rely on them to get certain things done.
Such a conflicting feeling…
However, today she was going to use her lovely fans again.
Yi Xiao gave a cold smile. Now that she had confirmed the location, she opened her camera and took a photo of the entrance of the convention hall.
She opened Weibo and quickly posted:
【Yi Xiao: Out for a walk at a comic convention today~】
She attached the photo she just took and pressed “post.”
After finishing this, she quietly put her phone back into her pocket.
Luo Xiangrong turned his head and looked at Yi Xiao, who was starting to look a little pleased with herself, and asked softly, “Is it done?”
“Yes, I’ve posted it on Weibo.”
“Sometimes I really have to admire you, Xiao Xiao. You’re so smart to think of this plan.”
Luo Shangrong gave her a thumbs-up in a flattering way. The gesture made Yi Xiao feel a little uncomfortable. She tugged at her coat and said,
“There’s no need to praise me like that. Anyone with a normal brain could think of it. But… if someone else were running my Weibo account, this post might have caused a big problem.”
Luo Shangrong felt awkward for a moment. He knew she was talking about him.
Before, as her assistant, Luo Shangrong had suggested helping her manage her Weibo account. He said it would reduce her stress and also increase fan engagement, so that Yi Xiao would not be forgotten by her fans during this period when she had no new projects.
Yi Xiao agreed to let him try and shared the account with him. But that “gentleman” assistant forgot to switch accounts and ended up liking a set of photos of a girl in revealing clothes.
It caused a huge storm on Weibo. Many of Yi Xiao’s fans were furious. They criticized her management team and said, “This is definitely not something our sister would do!”
In the end, Yi Xiao had to come out and explain. She blamed it on a temporary staff member.
Although the issue was settled without serious consequences, Yi Xiao was still very unhappy and took back control of her personal account.
Even so… the studio’s account was still in Luo Shangrong’s hands.
Yi Xiao truly felt disgusted. From then on, she became very cold toward him and only contacted him when she needed something done.
“Exactly!”
Even though Yi Xiao was clearly mocking him, Luo Shangrong did not seem to care. Instead, he continued in an exaggerated, flattering tone,
“Only you could think of posting on Weibo on purpose, attracting your fans to the convention to increase popularity, then deliberately not showing up at first. And when those girls start their live stream, you suddenly appear somewhere else and draw the crowd away, leaving them with no audience and creating an awkward scene. That’s really a cruel move!”
“Mm.”
This round of flattery made Yi Xiao feel quite satisfied. She nodded and said with a cold smile:
“Actually, I have an even smarter detail in my plan. Luo Shangrong, do you know why I didn’t start promoting my appearance at this convention a few days earlier?”
“Well… I really don’t know. Xiao Xiao, could you explain? Normally, if you start promoting earlier, wouldn’t more fans come?”
“Hmph, that’s exactly the problem!” Yi Xiao smiled proudly and explained,
“Our final goal is simply to ruin their live broadcast effect. How many people come is not that important. I have enough fans. Even if I announce it now, many will still come to see me. The most important thing is that this way, we don’t alert the enemy and give Lin Lin and the others time to change their plan.”
As she spoke, Yi Xiao looked toward the inside of the hall.
“They’re probably already here. Heh. By the time they notice my Weibo post calling fans over, they’ll probably be getting ready to go on stage. What chance will they have to fight back?”
“And the post you made, Xiao Xiao, looks just like a simple daily update. No one would suspect anything. A knife hidden in soft cotton!”
Faced with Luo Shangrong’s intense flattery, even Yi Xiao felt a little overwhelmed. She stayed silent for a moment, nodded, and said,
“Let’s go inside first. Find a quiet place to rest. It’s still early before they start the live stream. Don’t let the fans find us too soon. Otherwise, there would be no point in making a dramatic appearance.”
“O-Okay!”
Yi Xiao did not notice that behind her, Luo Shangrong looked at her proud back with a trace of displeasure in his eyes.
After a moment, he shook his head and quickly followed her.
