Chapter 389: Reward

The first day after the holiday.

As usual, Su Peng’s alarm woke An Han up.

Half asleep, she pushed Su Peng with her head to remind him to turn it off. She kept her eyes tightly closed, trying to fall back into sleep.

She had been very tired these past few days, dealing with her mother, the engagement, and all the recent indulgence. All the fatigue came back today, so even after sleeping all night, she still felt exhausted.

Su Peng woke up fully. He reached out and stopped the alarm on his phone, then looked down at An Han, who was leaning on his chest and using him as a pillow.

He yawned and did not dare let his eyes linger on her.

An Han had worn him out enough in the past two days. Last night they went to bed early and did nothing special, but now his energy had recovered. His future wife beside him was constantly teasing his nerves.

Her scent, her soft curves, and even the small “mm” sound she made when disturbed. All of it made him react very quickly.

Unfortunately, An Han was too sleepy. Otherwise, some morning exercise would not have been impossible.

Su Peng carefully supported An Han’s head and placed it back on the pillow. Only then could he sit up.

Time to go to work again.

But before Su Peng could get up, An Han opened her eyes. Her eyes were still unfocused and sleepy as she looked at his back. Without thinking, she reached out and grabbed his shorts.

“What’s wrong?” Su Peng turned his head. He had already changed his usual way of asking.

“You’re too noisy… you woke me up…”

“You can sleep a bit more. I’ll go downstairs to buy you breakfast. Remember to eat when you get up.”

“Mm.”

Sleep was written all over An Han’s face. She yawned, let go of him, and said vaguely, “I want oyster pancakes…”

“There’s none nearby. I’ll see what I can buy for you, okay?”

She nodded without thinking, turned to her side, and hugged the blanket with her legs, using it like a pillow.

Her long nightdress was already messy. When she lifted her legs to hug the blanket, Su Peng could clearly see her white cotton underwear. He rubbed his nose and pulled the corner of the blanket over to cover her hips.

Even though the average temperature was already around thirty degrees, and An Han had insisted on turning on the air conditioner last night, he was still worried she might catch a cold.

“Sigh… work again.”

Su Peng sighed. Seeing An Han’s breathing become steady, he quietly walked out of the room.

If possible, he did not want to fall out with his family. Luckily, his grandfather already knew about it and would probably scold his parents, and his father might even get beaten…

“Just hold on a bit longer.”

“Su Peng! Su Peng!”

At that moment, An Han suddenly ran out of the bedroom barefoot, looking panicked.

“We’re going to be late for class! Why haven’t you left yet?!”

She did not even wash up. She rushed back into the room and slammed the door shut. Before Su Peng could react, she had already changed into a T-shirt and long pants, came out with books in her arms, and ran toward the door in a hurry.

“……”

“Aren’t you going to work today?”

An Han stopped by the coat rack, looked outside the window, and said, “It’s cloudy, right? I’ll put on a jacket.”

With one foot already in her shoe, she suddenly realized something was wrong. She looked at Su Peng, who was standing still by the table.

“What time is it?” Su Peng asked.

“Isn’t it 7:50?” she replied.

“6:50.”

“How is that possible?”

An Han frowned, reached into her pocket, and did not find her phone. Only then did she realize she had left it behind.

Just as she was about to walk back to the bedroom, Su Peng raised his phone and held the screen in front of An Han.

“Look again carefully.”

On Su Peng’s phone screen, the big numbers showed 06:51.

“Eh?”

An Han’s tense body relaxed right away. She rubbed the back of her shoe on the floor and smiled awkwardly.

“I saw it wrong.”

Back in elementary school, An Han once arrived at the school gate at four in the morning. She had stood there in the cold wind, full of self-doubt, until the gate finally opened.

At that time, the sky was still dark, and there were almost no people on the street. She even thought the world was ending.

She hugged her textbooks and sat down on the sofa, scratching her messy hair helplessly.

“I can’t fall asleep anymore…”

“Then eat breakfast with me,” Su Peng said.

Su Peng only wore loose shorts when he slept, so he got dressed very fast. He quickly put on a T-shirt and shorts, ran wet fingers through his messy hair, and went out.

An Han stayed on the sofa, still feeling confused. From time to time, she looked at her phone, wondering how she could have read the time wrong.

Since she woke up too early and had nothing to do, she casually opened different apps. In the end, she opened WeChat, which she rarely used.

“Ah!”

She suddenly saw a money transfer record on WeChat.

“Ten thousand?”

She looked again at the unfamiliar name. After thinking for a while, she remembered, it was her future mother-in-law, Su Peng’s mother.

“Why did she send me money… Oh, is this the engagement gift?”

“They didn’t say anything about giving me money when we got engaged…”

She talked to herself, cleared her throat, and practiced her voice by saying “ah ah ah” to the air. Then she used a cute, sweet, and slightly spoiled tone to send a voice message.

“Thank you, Auntie~”

After sending it, she started worrying again.

“Will Auntie like this kind of voice? Will she think I’m trying too hard?”

“But typing can’t show how happy I am…”

“She only sent ten thousand. Su Peng’s family is pretty rich. Is that a bit little?”

She wasn’t being greedy. She was worried that she didn’t matter much in his parents’ eyes.

Suddenly, she realized her mindset was not right.

In the past, she was very carefree. She wouldn’t think over small things again and again, and she definitely wouldn’t worry about one thing for so long.

Back when she was still male, even when she noticed her body slowly becoming more feminine because of the system, she could still think, “If I can’t resist, I’ll just give up and play games.”

“I bought pancakes, with sausage and chicken,”

Su Peng said as he opened the door with a bag of Shandong pancakes. He saw An Han sitting there with a worried look and asked curiously,

“What’s wrong?”

“Your mom sent me ten thousand yuan.”

“Isn’t that a good thing?”

He put the pancakes down and smiled.

“Save it, or we can eat something nice tonight.”

“Mm…”

An Han picked up a pancake and took a bite, then looked up and asked,

“Are your family easy to get along with? They don’t seem to like me very much…”

“It’s fine. Just don’t spend time with them.”

“Eh?!”

She suddenly jumped up.

Su Peng was startled and almost fell off the small stool.

“This is a reward!”

“A reward for what?”

“Sys—” An Han almost said it out loud, but stopped herself in time. She looked at Su Peng carefully and said in a testing tone, “A system reward.”

“Did you sleep too much and get confused?” Su Peng said.

As expected… the only people who would believe in a system like that were the host and some overly imaginative teenagers.

She looked again at the WeChat transfer record, twirling her hair with her fingers, feeling uneasy.

She vaguely remembered a task about getting engaged to Su Peng, where the reward was gift money. But she clearly remembered that she had never accepted that task.

Was it just a coincidence?

Or was the system preparing to trick her?
